The only way I'd trade Preuss was if the club made a play for Bailey Williams via live trading from his resultant currency.

I.e we got a early second rounder or a 2019 first from say Geelong and were able to package it for a live trade for Williams as he's available in the 12-20 range.

I think he's extremely unique, he's kicked some massive bags in junior footy, but is also genuinely elite ruck prospect athletically.

He's a better version of Paddy Ryder imo.

I would then be prepared to carry Goldstein to retirement with Xerri and Williams as developing rucks.

Live trading completely changes the game, being able to align needs with best available.

We're essentially trading a ruck for a ruck, but one that cashes in on the value of a developed one, for one that needs a few years, with probably a higher ceiling.
No concern for his height at 198cm?

Williams really Impressed me in the academy match. Really tried to work Preuss over once the ball was on the deck.

Not with his leap.

I think the comp is moving towards more mobile rucks anyway.

Funnily enough, I wouldn't be surprised if rucks were Patrick Cripps 195cm type midfielders in 15 years.

It's back to the future.

trading goldy is the ideal situation
preuss number 1 ruck next year with maj pinch hitting

trading preuss would work also but means we are probably stuck with goldy for the final 2 years of his career till Xerri takes over

There can be only one...

I wouldn't want to be banking on a Patrick Cripps type to go into the ruck against a Sandilands type, it would be a bloodbath. Naitanui can barely compete against a semi-retired Sandilands, he has a massive leap and is 201cm.

Daw has a massive leap, but how often does he use it throughout a game when he played in the ruck? Very hard to get far off the ground when you are fatigued.

I still think the best combo is a giant main ruck plus a utility ruck, if that utility is Daw, Xerri or someone else then that is up for debate but nobody has really locked down the secondary position. Daw needs to be able to string more than 3 or 4 games together before he can come into contention.

Our burning issue is our primary ruck options, Goldy is a better prospect right now, but we are unlikely contending in 2018 or 2019, if the clubs sees 2020 as the launch point, then are we going to start our assault with a 32 year old Goldy on 250 games of experience and a 25 year old Preuss on 8 games? That isn't going to end well. Preuss needs a lot of development work but there isn't anything left for him to get out of the VFL.

We have to balance up what we need for right now vs what we need if we are ever going to contend, it is better to make sacrifices while you rebuild than being forced to make sacrifices when you hope to contend.

It's a factor when building a list and if money is being thrown around to others it's a huge elephant in the room.
It's irrelevant once the contract has been signed and it has not hampered us from acquiring a single player. Last years strategies proved that we had the money to make a play for ANY two players in the competition, regardless of what Goldstein was getting paid..

It's a non issue.

Preuss worries me.
He hasn't got a huge tank, rotations will reduce and a push to throw in/up the ball quicker will hurt him.

If we get a good offer we should take it.
He would would perfectly with a second ruck like 2mp. 2mp would ruck/forward would be a handy combo

Really?

Who are you replacing him with, the two blokes that can't run out a half of footy one out in the ruck, or the 19 year old kid?
Yeh nah because we’ll just keep Goldstein in the hope he’ll be the number one ruckman in the competition again. He ain’t getting any better. He is still serviceable but half the Rucks is the comp have passed him.

Todd’s time is up either this year or next year at most. I’d rather move him on at end of 2018.

This is highly unlikely. We want the best midfielders in the competition as well. Does that mean we should move on Higgins and Cunnington, and play LDU & Will Walker?

There's some confusion here between trade value and value to the side.

Michael Firrito wouldn't have netted a Powerball ticket in 2013 but was still a valuable contributor for 3 more years.

People should consider Goldstein from a similar perspective.

Well stated.

Apparently a blokes ability is rated by what you pay him. It is a pure, unadulterated super-coach mentality.

Indeed. When we're maxed out in the cap and losing wanted players to higher offers then we can worry about Todd's remuneration.

As it stands Cam Joyce has been wandering around Arden Street playing his own version of Brewster's Millions in an effort to reach minimum TPP.

Surprised Todd didn't score a raise if anything.

COLLINGWOOD coach Nathan Buckley has insisted three off-contract stars remain focused on the Magpies despite suggestions the vultures are circling.

Jordan De Goey, Darcy Moore and Alex Fasolo's contracts are all up at the end of the season, and the trio are yet to negotiate longer stays.

"I can assure you Darcy, 'Jord' and 'Faz' ... are all training and preparing to contribute as strongly as they can, in the short and medium terms," Buckley told reporters on Friday.

"We'd love that to be long term with all of them, and that's where we're working from".

De Goey, 22, has a chequered off-field record with the Pies, with Buckley this week pointing out that the club had supported him through a series of "dust-ups" including a drink-driving charge earlier this year.

St Kilda are reported suitors, as are North Melbourne, Essendon and Carlton.

Moore, the son of club great and two-time Brownlow Medallist Peter Moore, has 61 goals in 50 games for the Magpies.

Sydney, who have swooped previously for big-name forwards Lance Franklin and Kurt Tippett, have been linked to Moore.

Club president Eddie McGuire rubbished the rumour, responding "I hope they (Swans) have got 15 first-round picks for him."

"He (Moore) will be sitting down with our leaders at the club ... in the next couple of days and discussing his contract," he said.

Fellow forward Fasolo, 25, is yet to play in 2018 after post-season shoulder surgery, although he has registered 13 goals in five VFL games this year.

Fasolo was Collingwood's top goalscorer in 2016 and chose to stay in 2018 despite concrete interest from West Coast.

"He's a victim at the moment of guys up top playing really good footy," said Buckley on Friday.

"(But) he's in a good headspace, he's tipping in to the program ... his attitude has been excellent, so his time will come".

Ninth-placed Collingwood face Geelong on Sunday at the MCG.

Of course. In retrospect but it may be different this year if we are going for big targets again. If we aren't it's a non-issue again.
