I think you're really underrating Steven. But that's what opinions are about..

I do rate Steven. However Kelly is a fair bit younger and really impressed year 1. I’d take him every day of the week.

Gotta agree, and while I haven’t watched Steven a lot of games over the past year, with all the talk of Kelly being a bad kick, Steven isn’t any better. I would’ve called him one of the worst kicks in the league about 3/4 years ago. Unless I needed a premiership this year, I’m picking Kelly.

Gives Adelaide a chance to get a Rankine or Rozee if they fall, or a Hately if they don't. If they bounce back in 2019 their second won't be particularly early so not a huge loss. WCE would need to decide if matching and trading is worth it when Essendon's first pick is #19, and their 2019 could be in a similar ball park to WCE's this year. If they don't, Essendon get Gaff for free while still getting a shot at some good midfield talent in this draft.

Ah, no, you'd be doing it reduce the chances of them matching. Which is what clubs do all the time when deciding how much to set their salary offers. We'd just be doing it with draft picks.

Before Adelaide supporters attack I imagine their List Managers would pay a premium to upgrade their picks this year. Their list is in a decent shape, quality has more worth than quantity and with the draft stacked for quality SA talent, SA clubs will want to get as many picks in the top 10 as they can this year.

Obviously a lot to play out. But if Brisbane wants Lachie as much as they appear to then perhaps they trade their first this year and their first next year in return for Neale and Freo's 2019 second. Freo then trade the Brisbane 2019 for Timothy Kelly and Geelong 2018 third rounder. Geelong enter the 2018 draft with the future Brisbane first and then bid on a player in the 10 -14 player range as future picks can be traded but not players in live trading. Unlike with Mitch McGovern both Freo and Geelong can afford to play hardball at the trade table as both Kelly and Lachie probably wouldnt have an issue staying at their club for an extra year if a deal could not be worked out.

Neale trade has nothing to do with Ross. Other wise he’d be exploring options at more than just one club

My point was to do with the fact that Mitch has already requested a trade while Lachie and Tim Kelly have not. Adelaide would also almost certainly have salary cap considerations to take into account when evaluating a potential mitch trade. Just for the record Neale has zero problems with Ross. Chris Bond and Steve Rosich have said in interviews Neale's relationship with Ross is a major reason why they think he wont leave despite the extra money Brisbane is offering. In his last media interview Lachie actually said he loves the Fremantle Football Club, So clearly the difference is Mitch has said he wants to leave and Lachie has said he loves the club he is playing for. The fact that he has been looking at the Brisbane offer has everything to do with financial security, which Brisbane have offered in spades. He has always loved everything about living in Perth. Ive heard that directly from his aunty who lives in Perth who I have worked with.

We need a fiction section on this thread for posts like the above. 'He'll happily come back' even though MM asked to be leave the Crows before the trade period has begun, while asking for to be traded to the very specific team of somewhere in Victoria. Yep, reeks of a player who doesnt want to leave. Meanwhile Lachie has only expressed interest in exploring the option of being traded and is only interested in going to one team offering a contract that would guarantee his financial future. Apples and oranges.
