If you lose Neale for 4 and 22, Port would be an ideal trading partner.

Freo -
Gain: Jesse Hogan. Lose: Lachie Neale

Melb -
Gain: 9 and 10. Lose: Jesse Hogan

Port -
Gain: 4,22 and Mayes. Lose: 9 and 10

Brisbane
Gain: Lachie Neale. Lose 4, 22 and Mayes.

Essentially what’s been thrown around in the media.

Fremantle keep their first round pick and land a gun KPF.
I dont think Port are getting 22 AND Mayes, would be one or other. 4 and 22 is equal to 9 and 10 on points and clubs value top end picks higher than the draft calculator going on history. Port are also competing with Adelaide to move up the draft and its possible pick 4 is the first draft pick thats actually reasonably obtainable give the interest of the clubs above it

For Shiel..

2019 first round pick + Matthew Kruezar with Carlton paying 100% of Kruezars salary.

GWS biggest weakness is in the ruck, MK solves this and They don’t have to include him in their cap.
2019 pick, naaah.
Our time is now. Prefer we hold him next year muchly. Free agancy us what it is next year.

Just an experiment:

Gaff + 20 + 21 (Lycett compo) for Hogan. How would that compare to 9 and 10?

The reason being end of round 1 for Gaff is crap and I wonder if Melbourne want more then draft picks?

WC lose: Gaff
WC gain: Pick 6 (freo's 1st)

Freo lose: Pick 6
Freo gain: Hogan

Demons lose: Hogan
Demons gain: Gaff
There is no point including Gaff in any trades. If West Coast can match the North offer he will stay. The only reason he would consider leaving a place he clearly loves playing at is because the money offered by North is significantly more than what west coast can pay. If west coast match the north offer then under afl rules they would have to pay gaff the full amount and length north offered. If that was possible gaff would just sign on before the free agent period.

I think there is a good chance that May may end up at Melbourne. If Jesse Hogan is interested in coming to Freo and Neale decides he wants to go to Brisbane then perhaps a three way trade could work. If Hogan is traded then I could see Melbourne wanting an extra key forward. Josh Corbett from Werribee VFL/North Warrnamboo could be a target as one of the Gold Coasts three mature age recruits as he shapes as the first or second mature age player selected. Corbett could be selected by Gold Coast and then be on traded Melbourne.

Perhaps a trade might be:
Brisbane. Pick 5 and 23 (after compo for Lynch only, The pick 23 will drop back more obviously by draft time) Future second to freo for Neale with Brisbane getting freo's 2019 third rounder back.
Freo: Pick 5 and Pick 23+ and future brisbane second to Melbourne for Hogan.
Melbourne trade Pick 5 and Pick 23 and Brisbane future second for May and Corbett and pick 19 (west coast pick).
Gold Coast get Pick 5 and 23 for May and Corbett basically. With pick swap of 23 and the Brisbane future second rounder for pick 19 to Melbourne if that helps get the deal done.

Works if May wants to leave with GC's blessing and if Melbourne rate Corbett who averaged 7.6 marks a game last year., but is 190cm albeit with good leap. Values Hogan as the same as Neale. Melbourne basically trade Hogan for May, Corbett and Pick 19. Freo get Hogan which they have been after for a while. Brisbane get their man. A leader who will make their midfield significantly better. Gold Coast get good compensation for May.

A lot to play out but this is my best guess if Hogan, May and Neale change clubs. Probably Gold Coast needs a bit more as May will be in very high demand if he is up for trade. Neale ends up being traded for a trade similar to Dayne Beams (in that both trades would have involved a clubs first two pick and change) who was a bit younger than Lachie at the time of the trade.

Not bad

I think Brisbane are giving too much in that deal - 5 and 23 seems about right for Neale

Freo should turn either 5 or 6 (the pick that doesn't go to the Demons) into 2 picks in the top 10-20 - give the better one to Demons and use the other for themselves

Demons get 5 or 6 to use on May plus a pick around 10-15

Suns probably would take a little less than the above for May as long as they got either 5 or 6 (think they would be keen to couple all 3 SA boys together) - Suns would probably throw in either pick 19 or 26 to go to Freo for a favorable exchange of future 2nd/3rd rd picks - Freo could then conceivably use that pick in a Lobb trade

Pies probably think that May for 2 late 1st rd picks will be enough but Suns would covet the early pick that the Demons would have to give.

I don’t agree with this.
West Coast can go the same way that Adelaide did with Geelong and Dangerfield.
Before free agency is declared they can negotiate with North or another Melbourne club the best deal they can get. They will be aware of the deal being offered to Gaff, and may be able to match the offer, but will choose to respect their player’s wishes.
I’m sure the size of the deal is important, but so is the go home factor.

Good point actually. Probably the right time to trade Kreuzer- won't be part of the Blues next push

The North deal is reportedly a lot bigger than the offer west coast made. 1.2 million a year for five years is how much the North offer is rumoured to be. Might not be completely true, but it does seem logical that North would be able to offer a lot more money than West Coast. Any team that tries to trade for him once a deal is matched has to pay the same contract as the North offer. The thing is that North dont have to choose to make a trade if West Coast matches so West Coast would be left honouring a contract that was much bigger than what they could offered to pay without salary cap issues or Gaff has to go to the draft and they get no compensation for losing him.

EDIT: I was trying to remember were I heard it, but in one the afl.com.au weekly podcasts they said the difference between the North and West Coast contract was over 200,000 thousand a year. They said Gaff was looking to work out a deal with West Coast before North upped their offer massively around the middle of the year when Gaff was playing like a Brownlow Medal contender. Again, it is a rumour and there are a lot of them that arent true, but north have been frontloading their contracts since they lost those four gun veterans a couple of seasons ago.

I hope you are having a nice relaxing break Clem.

Purely hypothetical that's why I am in here.

These trades are before any compo picks that may be allocated.

These trades whilst having similar parts will all be separate to make it easier.

Trade 1: Ade trade 7+19 to St K for 3+ 57 (2,592 points for 2,416 not that points matter all that much but for note takers)

Trade 2: St K trade 19 to Syd for Hannebery

Trade 3: Syd trade 19+66 to Coll for Moore and 48

Trade 4: Carl trade 24+25 to Syd for 12 (1,541 points for 1,268)

Trade 5: Carl trade 12 to Ade for McGovern (Carl offering 24+25 for MM Crows want 15~ surely that is there abouts?)

So this leaves:
Adelaide IN: 3, 12, 57
Adelaide OUT: McGovern, 7, 19

Sydney IN: Moore, 24, 25, 48
Sydney OUT: Hannebery, 12, 66

Collingwood IN: 19, 66
Collingwood OUT: Moore, 48

Carlton IN: McGovern
Carlton OUT: 24, 25

St Kilda IN: Hannebury, 7
St Kilda OUT: 3, 57

Saints take a 4 spot slide in the draft but get Hannebury with an early second which is there abouts.

Sydney bank points for Blakely. 12+66= 1348 (roughly pick 11) 24+25+48= 1843 (roughly pick 6)

This is the written down version of something similar to what's going on in my head.
The Collingwood part I hadnt really thought through.

The sydney-carlton-adelaide trade for McGovern, points, Pick 12 looks like a no brainer for all parties.
Its not often a trade suits everyone but Sydney get more points, Carlton get mcgovern for the price they want to pay (just indirectly) and Adelaide get about worth for Gov.

that's reasonable what's it doing here?
Good question.

The only ones who say no are possibly Sydney. But I don't think they are to hardly done by. They bank points for Blakely/ get picks to partner up with Rohan to move up a little closer again. Not massively closer but can do something with them I am sure.

Carlton get their wish of only parting with 24+25 but have to do the work of moving it up into 10-15 bracket and Sydney seem to be the only ones who may want to part with their pick for points banking purposes. Norths probably going to Port, Port hold theirs, GWS won't trade 13 same probably with Cats and 11. In turn Crows get their 10-15 pick they want for MM.

Crows move up to get Rankine/Luko with P3, Saints move to 7 but as mentioned get Hannebery.

Leaves Crows with 3, 12, 15 to get their SA lads.

Collingwood end up with 19 to go with 17. Is it enough for May? Maybe not but could certainly ask the question.

I know I did it but I struggle to see apart from maybe Sydney who says no. Collingwood possibly next in line of saying no but gets them a seat at the table to talk.

Sorry if this is pretty freo based but this seems like it's going to be a huge trade period for them. Not counting restricted FA's they will all go to aformentioned teams (GAFF NM, LYCETT PORT, LYNCH RICH ETC)

FREO: OUT- Neale, Pick 5,2019 Second Round Pick, Pick 22 IN- Pick 10, Hogan, Lobb A+
BRISBANE: OUT- Pick 4, Pick 22, Mayes IN- Neale, FREO 2019 Second Rd Pick A
PORT: OUT- Polec, Pick 9, Pick 21 IN- Pick 4, Mayes, Pick 28 C
NORTH: OUT- Pick 10, Pick 28 IN- Polec, Pick 21 C+
DEMONS: OUT- Hogan, Kent, Vandenburg IN: Pick 9(Traded for May), Pick 10, STK 2019 Third Rd Pick. D+
GC: OUT- May, IN- Pick 9, Pick 30, C+
GWS: OUT- Shiels, Lobb, IN- Pick 22, Pick 8 C+
ESSENDON: OUT- Pick 8, IN- Shiels A-
SWANS: OUT- Pick 30, Rohan, Hannebery IN- VandenBurg, Pick 36(send to stk), Pick 15, Picks 57 and 61, B+
STK: OUT- Picks 3, 57,61 IN- Pick 7, Pick 15 (Sent to Swans), Hannebery, Kent B+
GEEL: OUT- Kelly IN- Pick 20, G.Rohan C+
WCE: OUT- Pick 20, Pick 36 IN- Kelly C
CARL- OUT- Picks 24 and 25, 2019 3rd RD Pick IN- M.McGovern, Pick 37 B-
ADELAIDE: OUT- McGovern, Pick 7, Pick 15, Pick 37 IN: Pick 3, Pick 24, Pick 25, 2019 CARL 3rd Rd Pick B+

Hawks, Richmond, Pies, Dogs all pretty quiet.
Bit of rationale behind the trades. Demons get into bidding war with Pies for May so have to pay slight overs 9,30 for May, virtually losing Vandenburg for nil after he has to go home to Sydney. Crows swoop in on Ports parade by swapping 7,15 for St kilda's pick to steal Lukosius after its confirmed GC will take King brothers with 2 and 3. Neale trade falls into Freo's lap allowing them to keep both this years and next year's first round picks- GWS had to shed salary so just wind up with some decent draft Picks.

This years draft will dictate a lot of activity in trade period, more than ever before as it will dominate the SA clubs plays.
Pick 1- Carlton take S.WALSH
Pick 2- GC take M.KING
Pick 3- GC take B.KING
Pick 4- Adelaide take J.LUKOSIUS
Pick 5- Port take I.RANKINE
Pick 6- Freo take B.SMITH

Would these sides supporters be pleased with this trade period prediction?

Reckon the crows would want Carlton to bundle 24/25 for 12-15 range. 2nd rounders don't really give us anything decent
