It's interesting that the ITF move to 16 seeds as Nadal/Federer/Djokokic reach the twilight of their careers. The 32 seed system definitely help protect the top players, as the top 8 have not had to face a player ranked better than 25 until at least the 4th round.

It is an interesting move considering the women's tour is already unpredictable in that it often throws up a new slam semi finalist every tournament and the men's tour is heading towards having more unpredictable results as the big 3 head into retirement.

Tomic and Kokkinakis play each other in the opening round of qualifying. How will we be able to watch this tournament without pay tv, in the early rounds?

Actually don't mind reverting back to 16 seeds. Means from round 3 onwards there are better matches rather than round 4 or QF's.

37 year-old Roger Federer will now be the 2nd oldest Swiss player at this US Open.

39 year-old Patty Schnyder has qualified for her first grand slam tournament since 2011 and her first US Open since 2010!

She reached the quarter finals at the US Open way back in 1998 where she beat Graf in the 4th round!

Another current player went one better at the same event. Venus Williams made the semi finals.

Mouth-watering draw.

Ferrer-Nadal, Dimitrov-Stan and Stosur-Woz are certainly fun for promoters and romantics in Rnd 1, even if some of them won't be contests. Halep getting Serena and Venus in her section is interesting. Cool to see Patty, Robredo and Zvonareva. Like how the 7th section has a lot of the younger stars together like Kasatkina, Osaka, etc. Guaranteed Aussie woman in Rnd 2. Federer projected to meet Kyrgios and Djokovic before SF.

Last slam and 2nd last tournament for Youzhny, currently on 498 wins. The luckless Julien Benneteau also playing his last slam. Probably Ferrer's last unless he decides to qualify for the AO. Wouldn't be surprised if it is the last time we see the likes of Robredo, Patty, Zvonareva, Venus, etc.

I actually didn't like the shift to 32 seeds at 2001 Wimbledon. I've always preferred the 16 seeds myself, so welcome its return. Never much liked the 17-32s getting protection at slam level.

Nadal has lost 3 matches all year. Pulled out in the 4th set against cilic at the aus open whilst injured, lost one match on clay to thiem and lost the semi to novak at wimbledon (where he was coming back and looked stronger, where bad light stopped play and djokovic could recover).

Nadal is the clear favourite for me and doesn't have to face the 3 players who i believe are capable of beating him here and that is cilic, fed or djokovic, til final.

The us open is always the slam I watch/follow the least. Horrible timezone for us.
