With the carnival right on our doorstep, I thought I would create a thread to discuss games, results and follow how teams are tracking:

Week 1
Friday 9 March 5pm, Subiaco v West Perth, Leederville Oval
Friday 9 March 5:30 pm, East Fremantle v East Perth, East Fremantle Oval
Saturday 10 March 8:45 am, Claremont v Peel Thunder, Claremont Oval

Ive been following West Perth who started their pre season in November last year. I think they made a great choice to partner up with Athletic Institute this year to give the boys a physical edge. The squad is very well balanced with a number of x-factor players which will hopefully shine during the tournament.

Unlike some of the other clubs, WP havent played any any pre season warmup games besides two intraclub matches so its difficult to say where they might end up.

No major injuries through out so the first round game vs Subiaco should be a great opener.

Round 1 Results for Subi vs West Perth. Both teams came out firing with Subi taking an early lead after the first quarter. The match turned out to be an arm wrestle on the scoreboard with both teams trading scores for the second and third quarter. West Perth had a chance to win the game right in the dying minutes with a number of players free and out wide, however they struggled to maintain possession which eventually lead to Subi putting the nail in the coffin scoring a final goal at the end to win 11.7 to 10.5.

Did anyone get a chance to see the other teams?

Yes thats correct. Kavanagh is also another NGA player but not in the elite academy like Joel.

Jaxon Bellchambers from South is one to watch out for.

Interesting that he is a 2001 aged player. I assumed it was strictly a 2002 aged competition but I've heard of single player exemptions in the past.

I know a bit of the kid (he used to play his footy and basketball in my local area).
He is an incredible athlete (both pace and jump) and I think he got injured a bit last year, so must've put in some decent rehab work from that.

2002 ager, plays for the Western Tigers.

Earlier this month Claremont won the Nicky Winmar carnival...half of that Claremont side consisted of boys from the Kimberley region. Boys are usually between 13 and 15yrs but that is pretty fluid and generally you'll see younger and older cousins and brothers play for a team as the boys rack up the injuries from the one day carnival.
