Ditto.

Amazing we still haven't played them since then. Really wanted an Iran v Australia Asian Cup final a couple of years ago.
Nup, that final was fantastic to be at, huge amount of Sth Korean supporters there and their women are some of the prettiest I've seen. My God, what stunning, stunning girls.

Would have been more Iranian's if the Melbourne games were to go by. And don't get me started on how stunning Persian girls are...

Look not be a goose or a flog but what the hell are FFAs decision to put us in the Asian Competition for World Cup and co. Why not Oceania as they have a guaranteed spot now that the WC will expand to 48 teams, just saying

Because Asia's more competitive which means we'll be better?

Yeah but then we risk not qualifying
Oceania now has a guaranteed spot
Playing Tahiti and Fiji is no preparation for a World Cup. The Asian qualification route gives us difficult matches in hard to travel to places.

We should still be good enough to make it every time anyway.

Does teams like Spain, Germany, Belgium have hard run ins to the world cups? I'd rather qualify first then play hard friendlies

They play harder games regularly. The Euros are a huge comp which requires difficult roads to qualification.

Not sure how or why you're trying to justify being in Asia is a bad thing. We outgrew Oceania so long ago.

Any expansion won't happen til the 2022 World Cup at the earliest, more likely the 2026 World Cup.

What would have us do? Pull out of Asia mid-way through qualifying for 2018 and leave us with nothing?

What the **** are you doing here? You're just infecting the Australian Football board with shit.

My point is for future WC. We might not qualify for 2022/26

World cup expansion is a joke. 32 teams was the absolute maximum. Blatant greed for profit. Nothing subtle about it.

If we can't finish in the Top 4 for Asia, we quite frankly don't deserve to go the World Cup
Thats one downside of the expansion of the World Cup. A lot of teams that really aren't World Cup quality will be playing
And the alternative is playing Uruguay for a 50 50 chance of making the actual cup after beating nobodies.

Don't know what DiL is thinking if anything.

Under the current system yes, but when they increase it to 48, beating the nobodies will be enough to qualify
Although under the same idea, surely increasing to 48 also increases the number of Asian slots right?
So we would only have to finish say in the Top 8 of Asia instead of Top 4

It will be interesting actually how they allocate the extra 16 world cup spots

Currently from the 32 side Tournament there is
Europe - 13
Africa - 5
Asia - 4
South America - 4
Central America - 3
Playoffs - 2 (Oceania/South America/Central America/Asia)
Plus Host Nation

For a 48 side tournament I would go with
Europe - 18
Africa - 7
Asia - 8 (Big Growth Market, particularly if China are involved)
South America - 7
Central America - 6
Oceania - 1 (New Zealand really the only country worthy of a WC)
Plus Host Nation

7 of the 10 South American teams would mean Bolivia, Venezuela & whichever run of the mill team going through a tough period out of Paraguay, Peru and Ecuador will always miss out.

I was surprised to see that Peru were ranked 19th

For what its worth, this is how the World Cup would look under a 48 team system with the ratio i gave above (as per rankings, even though qualifiers don't always go that way)

Europe - Germany (3), Belgium (5), France (7), Portugal (8), Spain (10), Switzerland (11), Wales (12), England (13), Croatia (14), Poland (15), Italy (16), Iceland (21), Netherlands (22), Rep of Ireland (23), Turkey (24), Slovakia (25), Hungary (26), Bosnia (27)
Notable omissions - Ukraine, Austria, Sweeden, Greece, Serbia, Russia

Africa - Senegal (33), Ivory Coast (34), Egypt (35), Tunisia (36), Algeria (39), DC.Congo (49), Nigeria (50)
Notable omissions - Ghana, Cameroon, South Africa

Asia - Iran (29), South Korea (37), Australia (44), Japan (46), Saudi Arabia (48), Uzbekistan (61), U.A.E (64), China (81)
Notable omissions - Qatar, Iraq, Jordan

South America - Argentina (1), Brazil (2), Chille (4), Columbia (6), Uruguay (9), Peru (19), Ecuador (20)
Notable omissions - Paraguay

Central America - Costa Rica (17), Mexico (18), USA (28), Panama (58), Haiti (69), Honduras (75)
Notable omissions - Jamaica, Canada

Oceania - New Zealand (109)
Notable omissions - none

A lot of easybeats there

The proposal announced as part of the ratification process by FIFA was:
Europe 16 teams
Africa 9
Asia 8.5
Concacaf 6.5
South America 6
Oceania 1
Host nation 1
