I'm a bit of a fan of pliskova. I reckon she will go down the rankings under Stubbs:(
She needed a change though. She was trending downwards for the last couple of years.

Sabalenka is coming btw. overpowered Keys today. This is on top of several good weeks during the US circuit. Very tough match next v Halep, who has had a great year.

And Kiki Bertens is playing like it is on clay atm. I don't think she can beat Halep, who must be fav for the US Open. I think people need to remember that Serena hasn't played too much tennis.

Good to be actually watching tennis again and not talking about sexism or racism and all those big topics.

Edit: a couple of things. Schmieds, the airball is not a legitimate tactic. And that is the first time I have ever seen you ace someone.

Ohhh big moment. 30-40, Golubic hits a winning shot down the line. But wait, the chairwoman has called it out!!!!!(and no hawkeye btw)

But because it is a woman umpiring:rolleyes: and Serena isn't playing, Golubic gets back to playing tennis straight away.

Schmieds holds once more, not long after. She has saved 5 BP in her last 2 service games.

Edit: ohh. I said it too soon. Code violation for abuse(i think) for Golubic after she serves 2 doubles and then hits one well wide. Schmieds serving for the quarters. gulp. I seen this story before

Edit2: easy does it. The worlds best clay courter wins on hard court for the first time since Jan in 3 sets. And Golubic shakes the hand of the umpire. That is not how you do it Viktorija, you meant to carry on.

Japanese entertainment is top notch. YMCA blaring from the speakers for the last 10 mins, the crowd fully engaged with the dance. The technique to drying the court seems to be laying the towel on the court and dancing on it.

Oh thank god. that is over.

We played a game, Schmieds got broken(Anisimova is a big hitter) and now we are off again.

If they put on YMCA again, I am going to have to turn it off.

Couldn't even match that yesterday. But at least she did get on the scoreboard saving herself from a double bagel. Gotta laugh that the game she won was a break of Sakkari's serve while never holding her own.
Sakkari was $1.40 before the match....I know my Schmieds.o_O

She is a top 200 player on Hardcourt. On clay, she is much better but her 2nd serve is still probably one of the weakest inside the top 100.

Schmieds wins her first round in Tashkent, 3 and 0!!!!!!!!! Geech, you must have had a bad day to get bageled by Schmieds.

so, in Schmieds last 6 sets, There has only been 44 games played. Or an average of just over 7 games a set.
