Had a look around at games on this morning across the leagues that beIN would show, only Monaco vs Marseille looks interesting, but even then, Monaco are in the relegation zone again

Had another look at the Ligue 1 table and boy there's so many minnows in the comp, how did the league go to shit and that many once were midtable Ligue 1 clubs are now battling in the lower tiers of French football?

Ligue 2 on the other hand is fairly strong with many established clubs like Lorient, Sochaux, Auxerre etc in there. Why are these clubs failing?

Dijon, yoyo battler club
Strasbourg, relative minnows who weren't in the top 2 flights not too long ago, Arsenes old club
Metz, relative minnows, spent many years in Ligue 2
Amiens, as above, same like Metz
Nimes, Ligue 2 minnows like Metz and Amiens
Stade Brestois, yoyo club
Stade Reims, yoyo club

Angers are going ok still, but I'd say at least 4 minnows and a couple of yoyo clubs in the comp

Ligue 2 in comparison

Lorient, Sochaux, Auxerre, Valenciennes, Nancy, Ajaccio, Guingamp, Lens, Caen etc have been regulars in Ligue 1/mainstays even over the years, pretty sure Guingamp have been extremely successful come the French Cup/League Cup over the years too.

Seems like they're all struggling to come back up once they go down too, Auxerre in particular who played CL like 10 years ago after a 3rd or 4th place Ligue 1 finish.

Marseille have won their 5th straight game and are now 5pts clear in second and only 2pts behind PSG, although the PSG have two games in hand.
This is Marseille's best run of results in a couple of years at least.

Marseille appear to be a striker short of competing with PSG this season, while both teams have only lost three games, PSG have won 19 and drawn 1, while Marseille have won 12 and drawn 7. Our inability to covert the tight games into victories is the biggest difference between the two clubs this season. Hopefully Marseille can continue to build over the off season and provide more competition next season.

RC Strasbourg fan checking in. Strasbourg is the paternal origin of my family. Heady times, up to 9th place now after not even being professional for awhile.

Current squad has a few journeyman mixed with exciting youngsters. Will be going to a game when in Euorpe for Easter. It's a shame we couldn't defend the league cup after it was abolished.

PSG will comfortably win the title again this season, but I'm happy to see Marseille is building a a squad that will hopefully compete in the coming seasons.
They defeated Lille 2-1 away this morning to move 11pts clear of third placed Rennes.

My daughter's team, Toulouse (place of birth) need a miracle to avoid relegation.
