Wouldn't take Pakistan too lightly. Improving and talented bowling attack and their Misbah/Younis replacements are starting to be a bit more consistent.

Think it will be tougher then last time when those two were past their prime so they have a chance to cause an upset, New Zealand will also be tougher then last time.

Gabba the host - Warner stays solely for his record

Warner
Khawaja
Labuschagne
Smith
Head
Wade
Paine
Cummins
Pattinson
Hazelwood
Lyons

My team. Bancroft, Harris haven't done enough. Burns unlucky but feel like with Lab at 3 and Head in the middle order likely to go with experience in the last spot hence Wade staying. Gabba does well for controlled bowlers so predicting Starc misses. Start of the series so I feel it's unlikely M.Marsh gets a gig as it is unlikely to be a 5 day 25 wicket toiling road.

Warner/Burns
Khawaja/Renshaw
Labuschagne
Smith
Patterson
Wade
Carey
Pattinson
Cummins
Lyon
Hazlewood

Starc (12th)

Openers to be decided from the shield games prior to the first test, but I think in Aus conditions Warner and Khawaja are the best two options.

Pretty much this except I’d swap head for Patterson and starc for Pattinson.

I think we will go Warner and Khawaja opening.

The sure picks are

Warner Marnus Smith wade paine Cummins Lyon hazlewood

Third seamer opener and number six are the only open spots.

right here right now, spot on.

3rd quick - starc/pattinson/j.richardson for mine have the front running
opener - Bancroft, harris, renshaw have all had approx. 10 tests each and only 1 ton between them. burns or khawaja
middle order bat - khawaja/head/Patterson

a couple of shield games could change all of that though

on averages alone here is our best XI:
warner (45)
burns (40)
khawaja (41)
smith (65)
head (43)
Patterson (144)
paine (31)
pattinson (27/27)
cummins (18/21)
starc (23/28)
hazlewood (12/27)

just play them, although labs, wade and lyon should certainly be in the mix.

Yeah let’s leave out Marnus after his rubbish batting in England🙄

You’re putting in Pucovski over Wade who made two centuries in the UK? Patterson isn’t in the side and Paine is an elite glove man.

You cannot be serious.
Patterson was in the side you named, Paine isnt elite with the gloves and should never play for Australia again. Yes wade only had 4 scores higher than 20, everyone other than Smith and Lab has the threat of being dropped.

Warner
Burns/Renshaw
Labuschagne
Smith
Khawaja drops down
Wade
Paine
Cummins
Pattinson
Hazlewood
Lyon

Lab has taken Uzzi’s spot at 3, either he opens or bats 5. Would be more inclined to bat him at 5 and have Burns/Renshaw over Head.

It is what it is with Paine, but ideally Wade takes the gloves, literally anyone else captains and next best batsman at 6.

Know I've already had my go but willing to change a few things:

Warner- 79 tests @ 45
Khawaja- 44 tests @ 41
Labuschagne- 9 tests @ 38
Smith- 68 tests @ 65
Head- 12 tests @ 43
Wade- 27 tests @ 30
Paine- 26 tests @ 31
Pattinson
Cummins
Hazlewood
Lyon

Starc 12th

Means we're just basically dropping Neser, Siddle, Bancroft, Harris and Marsh from the Ashes squad. Don't think there is any major loss there. I'd say it stays this way unless there is a very in-form domestic batsman who puts their hand up big time
