So Bicks, how does the Academy work ....who qualifies, and how do we benefit ?
It's not supposed to benefit individual clubs, it's initially all about talent identification and the ongoing development of the youngsters projected to be the top end talent. The State Talent Managers/Coaches would obviously select the candidates, I'm a bit surprised one of the local GWV Rebels 16 year old talent Mitch Martin didn't get a spot, think he's easily the best under age prospect I saw locally this year and one to keep an eye on..

Everyone is talking about getting Loko and Rankine back in 2020. If we did, would we still be able to amass the points to aquire F/S Luke Edwards who has been touted as a high 1st rounder.
Food for thought.

We’ve seen the Sydney and Queensland teams get players from their academies. Do we get access to any of these players or only the FS ones we already know about?
Unless the NGA rules change which has been mooted I believe Crows Academy's Daniel Sladojevic is one we would have 1st dibs on and Luke Edwards as a Father/Son. Unfortunately another Crows Academy player Anzac Lochowiak is not eligible because the SA and WA teams only have access to "Country" indigenous lads and Anzac like his brother Mihail is classed as "Metro".

Only found about this anomaly in the rule recently hence the reason why Wayne Milera [Metro] and Izak Rankine [Metro] weren't tied to Port even though they were in Port's Academy apparently. Seems with the Victorian clubs all indigenous lads are available depending on the zone they live in.

Nah, I doubt he'd be in 1st round discussions at this point.

Bicks Josh Hart from North, stats are saying 205cm born 21/3/2000 that make him eligible for this year's draft.
and they have as a student at UNI SA. is he a dark horse for this years draft,

Can't help you there, all I'm reliably told is he's a 'beanpole' at this time so probably not.

I'm surprised Bicks. The last time he was mentioned the consensus was we would need to give a first rounder for him. He has made the best players in the rep teams to date. Now he has been accepted into the AFL academy. That spells 1st rounder to me. I believe he is rated higher than the Burgoyne and Mead lads.

Hmmmm, Jackson Mead, not too sure about that.

You do realise Luke Edwards is 2020 draft eligible and will be one of the oldest draftees that year with a January 2002 birthday? Jackson Mead is draft eligible in 2019 with a September 2001 birthday. Burgoyne 2019 draft eligible.

Exactly Bicks and if we wanted to get Luko back in 2020 we would need 2 first rounders. Therefore if we were to get a bid on Edwards in the first round where do we get the points from. In 2019 we need points for Daniel Stadjevic(sp). yet some want to trade that pick away as well.

2021 if he's that good. :)

That beckons the question:who will Pear trade away to get those two.

Clubs can go into deficit to match bids - up to 1723 points if that part of THIS Emma Quayle article is still valid.

If the worst case (or actually a good case for us) arises and a club bids on Luke with pick #4, that's 2034 points, subtract the 20% discount (407 points) we get when matching and that's 1627 points we need to match that pick #4. Iif we have no other picks that are worth points, we can carry that 1627 points as a deficit to be paid off in the 2021 draft.

If a club made a bid on Luke with pick #1, that's 3000 points, less 600 (20% discount) is 2600, less the max deficit 1723 points means we need 677 points or pick #28 or better and we could match that #1 bid.

So if we got the chance to trade for Lukosius back in 2020, say, and paid with our 2020 r1 and 2021 r1 picks to do that, we could probably still match a bid on Edwards by carrying over the deficit into 2020, and then carry over any remaining deficit into 2022 - I think.

It would be expensive but we could do it, I think.

Bloody big cost though. Would be like having sanctions all over again. Still it's upto the List Managers to work it work.
