Macquarie point is the place they are proposing to build a 30000 all seater stadium,it ideally needs to be a roofed stadium because some days can be very cold and windy near the derwent.A number of cities around the world that have sports stadiums in cold climates have had roofed stadiums built and crowds have become considerably bigger due to having a sheltered stadium,
Looks like a good spot for a stadium. How feasible is a redevelopment of the whole precinct with parkland, pubs etc, or would it look like Wellington Stadium in the middle of a working port:

Macquarie point is going to have public space, cafes and that sort of thing, currently it is not in the early plans to have a stadium there though,so it would to be put forward and discussed with the developers.

good crowd at mcg!! Seem a very good lions support at the game too. Brisbane start winning the old Fitzroy fans will come out of the woodwork. Looks like the crowd is about 65,000

And look how populated the MCC / AFL sections are. Certainly pulling the broader footy community to the G today! Blockbuster. Great rollup. Looks circa 70k to me.

Monster Richmond turnout today. It's like Tiger Town in Melbourne!
It’s a monster football fan turnout today. Footy fans broadly have embraced this blockbuster. I reckon it’s over 75,000. Not often you see the grounds two member sections so crowdered for an interstate match not involving a large Victorian club.

Reminds me of the Hawks v Swans 72,000 recorderd during the height of this blockbuster around 6-7 years ago.

Great day for footy as the all time league attendance record falls again.
Well done Tiger army!!

Like to think we can get 15k for our final against the dogs but unfortunately I don't think we will get there. Just no form line for people to get excited about.

AFL BREAKS ALL-TIME ATTENDANCE RECORD
The AFL is pleased to announce that today, after gates opened at the MCG for the Round 23 Richmond vs Brisbane match, the all-time single season attendance record was surpassed.

Over 6,894,771 fans have attended a home and away match in the 2019 AFL Toyota Premiership season.

The new record surpasses the previous record set last season and is the third straight year a new mark has been achieved.

Richmond members Kirsten and Thom Chrystiuk and their kids Milla (8), Benji (5) and Daisy (4) along with their grandma Sandra were the record-breaking attendees.

They were congratulated by AFL General Manager of Commercial, Kylie Rogers and presented tickets to the 2019 Toyota AFL Grand Final – the first grand final for the family from Sunbury.

The AFL’s home and away season total attendances, last five seasons:

2019 - 6,894,771* (round still to be completed)
2018 - 6,894,770
2017 - 6,732,601
2016 - 6,306,333
2015 - 6,351,578
2014 - 6,384,742

Final attendance numbers will be released Monday 26 August.

Sensational crowd at the G.
Pity about the 3 x sub 10,000 crowds and there was plenty of space at Ballarat to fit in another 2 - 3000 on a perfect day.
So what is the problem with Ballarat as an AFL destination? Dogs fans dont want to travel or the Ballarat people couldnt give a stuff?
A total waste of $25 million public monies and I cant see any more being spent on the stadium and the Dogs out of there when the contract is finished..

It was a sell-out. So, 9.5-10K seems to max out the ground. Is Ballarat a worthy venture, that is another issue entirely. But, as an attendance, selling out the ground is the best you can do, regardless of how many people actually turn up in the end. Also, the listed capacity of Eureka Stadium is only 11K, so not sure where you are going to find another 2-3K.

And your opinion on this issue is slightly slighted by the fact that they announced a sell-out and you still had a go at the money spent at the ground
