Would love that as well but knowing those fu**s they could go na sorry it is now end of round 1

i am very pessimistic when it comes to the AFl with good reason i would say
They couldn't change its actual place in the draft because Geelong traded for it knowing it was pick 11. If they change the pick's place in the draft, then Geelong didn't get what they were sold.

The only question is whether the pick really is locked and guaranteed at pick 11 or whether it can get pushed back by academy bids, compo picks, etc.

Fair gap in quality between the two. Still, he gave them 12 years I think? He was a year from free agency and wanted out. It's not like he's in incredible shape. I half think Coop is closer to running out in the hoops

I reckon they both will, TBH. Steven has always been out of shape, a bit like Dane Swan. Doesn't stop his speed and agility though, which I've always found funny. Still, he's in much better shape than he was towards the end of the season. Comparably, there's a huge difference already:

I prefer to trace it back to the source:

We have more or less obtained:
2x 2020 1sts
Cooper Stephens
3 years of Gary Ablett Jnr
2 years of Tim Kelly
1-2 years of Josh Jenkins

In exchange for:
A handful of late picks
Letting Steven Motlop walk his salary right onto Ports books

And they say Wells doesn't know what he's doing

All thanks to Essendon for poaching Prismall

Thanks mate.

So 11 + 14 + 18 = 3475 points. Pick 1 = 3000 points. We've got a bloody good hand.

What's next year's draft look like? I'm salivating already.

No problems :)

I know right? There'll be about 10 clubs wanting our picks too, to get ahead of all the ridiculous bids that will come left, right and centre. We actually probably have close to the best hand right now of any club, and we haven't even lost/traded anyone in 2020. Pretty crazy for a club that just selected 3 decent players, landed Jenkins and Steven, and now have another 3 1st rounders in 2020. No other club in contention has done this well for picks/recruitment whilst contending.

But but we are about to fall off a cliff for the what 9th year in a row ;)

Very tactical this draft - no ‘next best available’ but going on likely retirement timetable-
Stephens for Selwood
De Koning for Taylor
Taheny for Dahlhaus
Possibly Frances for Duncan.

First with contested grunt. Last two with speed, foot skills, marking ability and goal kicking. Frances is indeed puzzling at 41 but it wouldn’t be a ND without a Well’s left fielder.

Next year a bundle of 1sts to bargain for another key mid or a key forward.

Ruck is now the standout massive weakness on our list - not sure a rookie is going to fix this.
Ruck and Outside Midfielder. Joel Selwood aint the best on the outside. Clark and Duncan are our best wingers, but outside that, what next Blicavs and Kennerley? Not ideal when Cunico and Scooter left.
Think Fogarty and Parfitt are best as pressure forwards and inside midfielders on part time.
Narkle has the potential to be a good inside midfielder too, with that burst and fend.
2020 Pick 11 (GC)
2020 Pick 14-18 (Geel.)
2020 Pick 14-18 (WC)
2020 2nd Round (Geel.)
If you look at my Best 22 under Age 24, we could do with a CHB type, a Ruck, a gun midfielder, probably another Key forward too. I'd use all those picks, or try and trade for a gun and up and coming player from another club with an early pick and get a 2nd round pick in return. Go FA to get the best talent we can via FA with no trades, must be looked at for sure.

GWS are jam packed with gun midfielders. Surely we can get one from there, as they would surely come across salary cap issues to keep them all.
Would be tough to poach from Suns, they have a lot of talent from last 2 drafts. Those young kids will bond together and are on decent coin, Suns can afford to splurge on them and try and keep them.

I think we'll go for one of GWS' offcuts, like Caldwell or Hately (depending on who's available). Offer up one of our late 1sts, for some academy kid they're likely going to want, and then maybe draft a CHB and Key Forward/get Jeremy Cameron if possible.

We lost nothing, and actually gained, during what was a pretty mediocre draft (you can tell how shallow it is, given that only 65 players were picked - I think that might be the least ever).

I think that would be a very sensible approach.
Jezza Cameron as a FA, yes please.

It can get pushed back by bids or compos affecting the 10 teams that miss the finals.

I think the one I'm probably most upset about not selecting is Jeremy Sharp. Only because he is 189cm, has the speed, has the endurance, and his kicking is solid and was an AA twice as an outside midfielder.
For me, this was the one that could've added immediate depth to our team starting next year, and looked an ideal Mitch Duncan replacement.
I could've seen him slot in next year on one wing, with Duncan on the other, and then we could've played Clark and Stewart off the back half giving us a lot more pace.

I know I know, the price for it was too juicy. Pick 11, and effectively a Pick in the 60s, which we managed to trade into get Taheny. Overall, it was good trade management, but if Sharp turns out to be a gun outside midfielder, it could hurt us a little, especially if we campaign again next season.

Lack of depth in the Hawkins position, and lack of depth in outside midfield class cost us that Prelim basically, and probably a flag. We addressed the first issue with Jenkins, but we haven't addressed the second issue still. Hopefully in the rookie draft.

Just got home at midnight. Before I took off to drive I checked who we had picked.
Francis Evans ( i laughed all the way home).
Who spotted him. Is Scarlo gonna pull off another local league miracle?
Taheny is quite a good get
And then when I got home I see we got Gold Coast FFR pick 11 for 2020.
Maybe we do have a big fish to bring over next year
Crouch, Whitfield, Cameron, Williams. Daniher.
Lets see
Or maybe Francis Evan's brother is on the hit list for pick 11

To be fair though, both Duncan and Clark weren't playing in the Prelim, so it's not the worst situation. Duncan just signed on 'til 2024, so we essentially have 'til then to draft someone of his calibre, in that role. Either that, or trade into it, or draft someone really high up the order, with our bevy of picks. Clark and Kennerley can play as genuine wingman too, so that's three players in our Best 30, I would say.

Sharp is someone I wanted too, but I had Taheny just behind him - as did Cal and KM in the lead-up. To get Taheny AND Pick 11, for the equivalent of Sharp and a Future 3rd, is just bonkers, lol.

We essentially (in my eyes) turned GC's future 3rd - Pick 40-50 (after academy bids), into their mid Future 1st - Pick 11, whilst getting a player in a similar draft range. Sharp is good, but he's definitely not worth that payoff

Cooper a good chance Evans and De-king i would say no chance
Taheny maybe but doubtful
Taheny 7 games at Senior SANFL kicking over 2 goals a game. With another preseason coming up.
Yes, definitely a chance to debut, especially if Cocky doesn't get on the park and Rohan's form slips. Neither have been durable longer-term.

Not Scarlo on this occasion....Troy Selwood saw him initially at North Old Boys, then Wells himself saw him live at the Cannons....

There was interest in Evans from 4 other clubs, so they decided to grab him at #41.

Could be a diamond in the rough Larry....

Yeah, I'm totally happy with Taheny, especially at Pick 50, to me that's a no brainer like Miers was at Pick 55.

Only time will tell, I'm kinda hoping we hit free agency hard next season, and actually use those early picks or at least 2 of them, and maybe trade one out on draft night if we can get a couple of slidders. I suspect we will have more list turnover next season.

Can someone post a few articles from last year where they listed the best upcoming talent for 2019 Draft?

I'm curious to see who they rated from last year, and compare who has slipped badly whether its been from performance or injury.
