I didnt think he said exactly that Daz... I thought he was more refering to not floating based on Gold Coasts finishing position. But this is AFL world ..I have been wrong many times before on the rule admin ...

I guess Id ask ..practically ... how could it stay at 11 if several clubs bid on players before 11? This year for example saw Carlton bid on two players at 9 ... who were then matched by Freo and GWS ..and then Blues had a pick at 11.. Is it your understanding that under this circumstance that Carlton would then have to move to 12 after the P11 that we would then have ? If so it would almost pressure clubs into no bidding on alighed players when at P10... they could lose the player they like when we pick at 11.
perhps the inference from TSEL was more that its not tied to GCS ladder position and thus does not move but wull be effected by bids etc.

GWS star Lachie Whitfield set to ignore free agency to become latest Giant to re-sign
One of GWS’ trio of star free agents is poised to be off the market, with Lachie Whitfield expected to announce on Monday he has inked a new deal with the Giants.

Greater Western Sydney’s stunning spate of contract extensions will continue on Monday, with Lachie Whitfield on the verge of signing a new long-term deal at the club.

The Giants will confirm one of their three 2020 free agents has signed a new long-term deal, after already locking away stars including Josh Kelly, Tim Taranto and new captain Stephen Coniglio this year.

The club has handed offers to 2020 free agents Whitfield, Zac Williams and Jeremy Cameron.

But Williams is not yet prepared to negotiate a new deal despite telling the Herald Sunduring finals he was determined to remain with the club long-term.

The Herald Sun reported last month Victorian free agent Cameron would re-sign despite clubs including Geelong attempting to lure him home at the end of next year.

A new long-term deal this early in the summer for Whitfield would be a massive coup for the Giants given his brilliance for Leon Cameron’s side.

The wingman missed the preliminary final after having his appendix removed and while he returned for the Grand Final battled to have an affect and clearly looked in pain.

Not surprised...always expected Whitfield and Williams to stay and ditto Cameron although i expect we will chase him hard as we should...its your Caldwell/Hately/Perryman/Cumming types that will be gettable that clubs will try to poach this year.

Jack Henry brother Ollie... Just wondering the word on him is? Yes there is a full season of him to play, does it look like he be a 1st or a 2nd round pick?

Same here. What is his height and weight?
What position does he play?
Is he a chance to get drafted?
I don't know anything about him with the exception that he is Jack's little brother.

I expect to go hard at a FA next year... apparently GFC have moved payments forward to clear space to acquire a high end dollar player.. so if menegola goes I doubt we get anything.
.... unless he goes to a club that itself is losing a FA that would be worth more in comp... for eg... if he went to WC and WC was losing Gaff as a FA. That would not be a total surprise .. one would think WC may see the loss of gaff as coverable while getting itself back in the draft. In that case they might prefer to trade for him with a future pick of some sort. Speculation of course.

What he would get as comp... what is someone going to offer him money wize? 28 yo...
28 yo and not on huge coin? Unless he's getting a godfather offer its a R3 at best surely

It may well be zero .... if he gets games at geelong and plays well he probably stays ..if he is fringe at geelong and looks elsewhere he has probably devalued

Fox Rabb ... he should be Jacks height or slightly bigger by the time he stops growing ... I think he is around 187cm atm. Has played forward but probably is yet to be determined where his best spot is ..lets see where he plays this year. He appears to be the more natural footballer than Jack..A Podcast I listed to the other day did a very early phantom and had him as a R1 pick. Again very early...but ist fair to say he looks good to be drafted atpit.

If Menegola does leave through free agency, I'd love it if Hocking gave us a higher compo pick than what the Tiger's were given for Ellis just for the melts again.
The problem with potentially losing Menegola via FA is that if we decide to bring in a FA, we probably wouldn't get any compo for losing Menegola

Seems like GWS are doubling down and have decided to run with what they have ... maybe from now on they will let the kids on the fringe go rather than prune from the top ... Caldwell and XOH for a pick in the 20's may be doable...but we will not be the only clubs with hungry eyes.. I cant see how Idun lasts and if they find him as disposable we should not hesitate to swoop on a him as a DFA

Did Idun re-sign?

Menegola is polarising on this board, I don’t feel either way about him really but if we are to get games into our promising young MIDs then he’s the obvious one that makes way. I suspect he’ll be playing a lot of VFL footy next year.

If i had to have a number id put him mid range in the draft but its too early to tell.

I was trying to follow what we got for TK in reality after the moves and trades etc...

WC gave us 14, 24 and Rd 1 2020.

We turned that into
Pick 14 - > 16 = Cooper Stevens,
Pick 24-> 27 = Pick 11 2020,
Pick 60 2019 then traded up to pick 50 to get Cameron Tahney (not all that came from pick 60 added a 2020 4th Rounder I think).
Pick 14-18 2020 ( WC Rd 1)

That seems to be 3 Rd 1 picks at this point for TK - after knocking back 2 x Rd 2 a year earlier. Well played Mr Wells. well played.

That rougly seems a decent haul asset wise for one player - albeit a very good one. How it pans put remains to be seen of course.

We ended up trading TK for 14 24 33 (became 37 due to ess pick swap) + FR1 with our FR3 and 57 going back to WC. We then flipped 37 for Jenkins and GCs FR3 and traded that and our FR4 for Taheny.

So essentially its TK plus 57 and our FR3 and FR4 for Cooper Stephens + P11 2020 + WCE FR1 + Jenkins and Taheny. Break it down and its 3 R1s + jenkins for TK (great result) and 57 + 50ish and 70ish for Taheny (also great trade).
Smith (58) for Jack Steven was another great trade.

The most mermorable way I heard it descibed was by swells when he said they trade their 2 R1's , 2R2 for Kelly our R3's ...

But as expected the deal becomes a blur as it diverges into a multitude of outcomes.. My guess in years to come most media will probably go for the easiest representation ... and who ever we get with the 2 WC R1 picks will be referenced back to Kelly.

Really? Rather early to not rate yotc? Being a mid tall KPD type..hardly our most urgent need ..

Think we have to be careful to not go hard at getting the GWS castoffs. I'd be more than happy to have a crack at Caldwell and XOH if they want to move on as I think both would add significantly to our young crop. Think Idun is a long way behind those two.

Thats fair. Apparently signed till 2022 so more will be known by the time he is OOC.

Generally I think you should be very cautious looking at players just based on draft position and potential. One clubs rating at a moment in time shoudl be balanced against performance in the higher comp. I say when players like DeBoar and others have managed to get into their side it tells you there are many different vegetables in the side soup..

And if you really think about it hard all this comes from the Motlop compo

Idun just resigned for 2 years anyway.
Caldwell Hately XOH etc are actually OOC.

Not sure about XOH, I'd prefer Caldwell and Hately, both of whom may be squeezed out with the arrival of Green this year.
