he ran a 2.97-second 20-metre sprint and also finished third overall in the 2km time trial at the Draft Combine

I noticed he is up to a hulking 73kgs on afl website now. Good trade down target IMO.
Convinced after hearing SD talk of maximising the value of our pick and describing the top end talent as not as high, but the over-all depth good we will trade down.

I’m saying it’s a waste of time the club wouldn’t have put the time into these players. Let’s get the player we want!

Plus I don’t want to go to pick 6...that has a horrible record
I would be hugely disappointed if the club hadn’t done its DD on all the players.
We are picking players not draft positions and therefore I don’t believe in curses or other superstitions.

My worry with Stephens is all anyone talks about with him is his athleticism. Players like that usually struggle at an AFL level.

That’s why among other reasons have Flanders my number 1 choice

You’d do less on a rivals academy players though

Twoomey just locked in his top 11 (we had Flanders), saying he would be surprised if any changes happened.
Stephens just now - "Sydney haven't met my parents yet." - Strike him off then.

Yes agree but not sure we should be writing them off. Don’t see why we should do them any favours unless we are getting the same back from them.

Getting ready to be very happy

That would be the thinking- hope we get one back next year

Why would we want to give up something of significance to go from pick 5 to pick 4? Probably still pick the same player.
We keep our pick five and to induce GWS to give up their pick four, we give up next year's first rounder and agree to not select Tom Green with either pick 4 or pick 5.

Or we can just not and not select him anyway which we wouldn’t anyway.

That's the number one priority in footy these days.

Stephens is also a good user of the footy though. He had some Matt Ling-esque moments of pure class in the SANFL games that I watched him in (haven't seen as much of that league as the NAB league though) and also on the run and under pressure too, which at least suggests the athletic/physical side of the game doesn't impact his ability to create and execute too much.

I'd be confident we'd have a future gun on our hands if we got Stephens, though I still think it would be a waste of our first pick.

A faster Worpel who can actually kick then. :thumbsupemoji:
Not as built as Worpel, probably not as useful in terms of goal kicking, and I haven't seen anything to show that he's got the same amount of mongrel in him. Better speed though, would love to have him and Rowbottom bursting away from stoppages

Let’s not compare someone to Ling please! At this stage that’s not a great thing.

No one has received more hype based on their athleticism than Flanders...

Plus other factors.

I do query the weight of Stephens as 67kgs is dead set a stick figure would need to put 12kgs on minimum.

Aside from the fact that I'm not too worried about rushing this year's draftees into senior footy as we're young enough (hence my first choice being Kemp), Blakey showed this year that you can have impact with your disposal without having the body to necessarily do it consistently.

I'd take a skinny Stephens ability to create and make things happen over a man-child in Flanders, who out of basically every prospect tipped to be in the top 30, has the most chance of becoming a hack kick and long-bomb-off-one-step culprit.

I reckon we might just be looking at McAsey with our first. Just something Kinnear said yesterday. It was a, passing comment about needs. He mentioned McAsey being the best tall and pretty well match ready. He said he did not believe in just taking next best as a matter of form. It was all about needs. No use taking a small forward if you have a forward line full of 'Em.

He also said who is next best anyway? You have a choice between an apple and an orange. Which tastes better? A ruch, tall, small, mid, forward, back. It all depends on your greatest need and who is available at the time. Go home factor, psych assessment, character assessment, work ethic, ability to live independently all figure. I loved his, candidnrss. Although he gave nothing away.

I really hope we don’t take McAsey at all although I’d like him more than Young at least!
