Game Day 2019 AFL Draft

I wish more clubs had the balls to come out and say who they were going to pick. Like I'd love to know if Geelong were going to take Georgiades with 19 (or even Carlton with 20 or Richmond with 21) and that's what prompted Port to take him with 18 instead of taking him with the first pick tonight.

That said there's an article that has just gone up on who some clubs would've taken at 3! Cool.

Just on this, I was trying to guess which of the 12 clubs was Dekka. Has to be Club 10, if anyone, doesn't it?

We can go hard on the Blues or forgive them or whatever, but if we went into draft night with pick 9 and ended up doing that they did... I would be so severely deflated as a supporter.

Ain't no fluff piece going to change my mind on that.

If we did that we’d all be reconciling it by saying we would have picked Kemp at 9 (or 11) anyway and then we got ourselves an extra top 25 pick! Not sure about the Philp selection though.

Enough about Carlton; any goss doing the rounds on pick swaps?

I don’t see us live trading unfortunately, so I think it’s best to assume that we use the picks we have atm.

I’d like us to pick up any of these blokes:
Dylan Williams
Harrison Jones
Darcy Chirgwin
Brady Rowles
Dyson Hilder

The dream for Will Gould still lives on. If we do trade up, I hope it’s for Gould or Worrell. I’d do some unsanitary things for us to pick Gould.

if coughing without covering your mouth with your hand or double dipping in the french onion is what it takes to get your man, you dip away!

Haha nah not these supporters it would be the move of the decade on this forum.

Who knows? I’ve been a big advocate in trading out our future first but am now starting to wonder whether it’s worth it now. Should still be some ok talent on offer and if we slide down the ladder next year that future first could be between 10-15. Doesn’t seem like good business to trade that out for a pick in the 20s.

Holding our picks next year gives us flexibility in the next trade period. If the pick looks like getting swallowed up by a McInnes bid then we get creative like others did this year and we try and get inside the bid by a trade out of a 2021 1st.

I lean towards that as well. Just wonder if there is a standout slider on our board that we rate if we will try pull the trigger- eg Worrell or Robertson or someone else.

But also wonder the value of us trading our future first now given there may be a couple of options for us v having the flexibility next year

I’m still hot for Gould. The last tall fatty that was a pure footballer who got drafted was Patrick Cripps. Sliding out of the first round will be a big enough kick up the arse for him, I’d trade next years first for him in a heartbeat.

Definitely one of the Tom Green ones, IMO.

Number 10 had "we" and "our" and was very straight to the point. That's why I thought it was probably Hine.

Only a Dodoro would've delved into the state of Melbourne's list, the modern game, used me, I, etc. instead of us.

Maybe the country paper is different (earlier publish) but can anyone confirm that the Herald Sun have gone with one singular page of draft coverage (pg 66) lead in from the full back page photo?

Seems odd to me. One single page...

Looks like pages 64-67 are all about the draft on the digital version of the paper. If you're got a country paper then it's possible that you're missing some of the draft coverage from later in the evening - I seem to recall from ages past that the deadline for copy to make it into country papers was something like 7 or 8pm?

Must be something like that. Quite often we get "Go to Herald Suns website to see if Australia won last night's Twenty20" or whatever. In this day and age it doesn't particularly matter, except work pays for a printed copy every day and I ain't subscribing to anything 😂

Wouldn't mind getting Gould, plug him straight into the backline and release Maynard/Crisp more into the midfield.

Means we could leave JDG in the forward line a bit more.

I’m still baffled by Carlton trading 22 and 55 for 20 just to take Philp. Massive head scratcher.
Recruiter: “SOS, if we can trade up to pick 20, there’s a kid with a bit of Sam Walsh about him, but with Tom Phillips’ running power”.
SOS: “Done. With Pick 20, Carlton selects Sam Phillip ploise...”
Recruiter: “SOS, ffs no!!!”

They’d get a game ahead of the Frosty Miller medalist? Not for me. The only one of those 4 that would be anywhere near Riccardi is Keane. If we take that path he lobs in on day 1 as our best performed regular VFL player. I’m just not convinced that we’ll take the KP path because I reckon there’ll be better value on the table when we’re on the clock.
Interesting, but Frosty never made it AFL (then VFL) level. So would we bank on the medalist making it. Anybody know if a Frosty Miller Medalist ever making it.
Anyway, I reckon we should no trade a future 1st this draft. I'm hoping for a Hine special this year and next year trade up to 2 first rounders.

It was instead the Fothergill Round Mitchell medal and the past 13 have been drafted with Lambert, Ryan, Barlow, Fritsch and Hibberd the standouts.

I thought the potential issue with Gould is how much improvement he has in him. Apparently he has been this size for the past 2-3 years and so was a man amongst boys.

Having said that, maybe he is being underestimated because of this and if he keeps sliding may be a good pick up.

For clarification, Riccardi didn’t win the frosty miller. He won the Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medal. Pretty much the rising star for the VFL. Former winners include Aaron Davey, Michael Barlow, Michael Hibberd, Kane Lambert and Luke Ryan. Every winner of this medal since 2006 has gone on to be drafted.

Edit: beaten by Scodog10

No, he’s been competing against men in the SANFL and still dominating. His issue is weight/commitment. He’s a super talent.

Simply cannot afford to miss out on Riccardi now.

I'd like us to trade our 2020 first for an early 20"s pick and package 56 up with 35 to move few spots ahead for Riccardi.

IF he not there to Pick then nothing we can do
