Game Day 2019 AFL Draft

What really matters from here is Hine's rankings as to what we do.

Whoever we get you can be sure he was top 20 on his draft board.

Christ I'm top 50 and I'm old, overweight and didn't even nominate.

I came on here thinking I would get to see who we picked. What a bloody anti climax! I hate this drawn out draft. Not content with squeezing every drop of drama and boredom out of an overlong trade period, the AFL are turning the draft period into a never ending story too.

Simply cannot afford to miss out on Riccardi now.

I'd like us to trade our 2020 first for an early 20"s pick and package 56 up with 35 to move few spots ahead for Riccardi.
I don't want to be a party pooper but I'm willing to bet that Hine goes for some obscure rather picking up Riccardi

If Riccardi is the best player available at our first pick then we will take him. I somehow dont think he will be.
I dont think he can help us next year.
Will Kelly, the irish boys Kean in particular and Wilson I think would all get a game ahead of him in a key position.
I disagree but you are welcome to your opinion

They’d get a game ahead of the Frosty Miller medalist? Not for me. The only one of those 4 that would be anywhere near Riccardi is Keane. If we take that path he lobs in on day 1 as our best performed regular VFL player. I’m just not convinced that we’ll take the KP path because I reckon there’ll be better value on the table when we’re on the clock.

I couldn't agree more. I only want a list to see where players have gone, and in particular who we have. To find that they didn't even det to our selection on the night was really annoying. I loathe the confected drama that surrounds football these days, from the white noise at games to make crowds seem louder to the "events" that have been created to stuff some interest into administrative activities.
Off season is boring, and the hijack of the couple of decent training threads by smart allecks has made it worse, but the AFL itself takes the cake for making a circus of everything it touches.

I don’t see us live trading unfortunately, so I think it’s best to assume that we use the picks we have atm.

I’d like us to pick up any of these blokes:
Dylan Williams
Harrison Jones
Darcy Chirgwin
Brady Rowles
Dyson Hilder

The dream for Will Gould still lives on. If we do trade up, I hope it’s for Gould or Worrell. I’d do some unsanitary things for us to pick Gould.

I agree. I’d go for the best available player for our first pick and if Riccardo is around for our second pick then go for him.

Huh?

Carlton traded 22 and 55 to get to 20.

We never had 25?
Typo bud. Not sure how I did it but there you go. Point still stands, it was a baffling move to move up two spots for a guy who likely would have been there at the end of the second round.

Wonder if we are still thinking about trading up the draft. Is there someone that we rate that we didn’t think would still be on the board?

Who knows? I’ve been a big advocate in trading out our future first but am now starting to wonder whether it’s worth it now. Should still be some ok talent on offer and if we slide down the ladder next year that future first could be between 10-15. Doesn’t seem like good business to trade that out for a pick in the 20s.

Holding our picks next year gives us flexibility in the next trade period. If the pick looks like getting swallowed up by a McInnes bid then we get creative like others did this year and we try and get inside the bid by a trade out of a 2021 1st.

I wish more clubs had the balls to come out and say who they were going to pick. Like I'd love to know if Geelong were going to take Georgiades with 19 (or even Carlton with 20 or Richmond with 21) and that's what prompted Port to take him with 18 instead of taking him with the first pick tonight.

That said there's an article that has just gone up on who some clubs would've taken at 3! Cool.

Without turning this into a Carlton related thread:

I see where you are coming from, however Jake Nial has reported today that lots of teams/recruiters liked Philp where we took him.

So I can live with that if it means we took a risk (and lost pick 55) in order beat Richmond and Brisbane to getting him.

Yeah I read that article too and Jake Niall did seem very positive about those moves by the Blues. Seems contrary to most on here but he would have the industry contacts.

Splitting 9 to 17 and 22 (ended back with 20) and still getting Kemp who they were apparently considering at 9 anyway doesn’t seem like too bad business.

I’d bid on Green, then take Young. He’d be perfect for us. We could move Crisp and Maynard higher you the group.
Or play Young on the wing, and watch his beautiful kicks into the forward 50.

nah.

Riccardi has done more at VFL level than any of the above mentioned names - on that basis alone he's a more likely 2020 AFL prospect. Beyond next year who knows, but in the short-term at least he looks much more likely to be AFL ready.
