Personally for the hand we had, I liked what we did in this draft. I think we went with best available and I think we need more younger running players.

It seems the Pies have tried something different to other clubs and filled their key position requirements with rookies who haven’t been in the system long so have significant potential. And why not? It’s rare for a new KPP recruit to have an immediate impact anyway. Unless you have a top 12 pick to secure one, best off going to way the club is.

It’s obviously a risky strategy, but I like the fact we are not following the other clubs and looking at it from a different angle. If it’s successful and we have a couple of kids come on, it will certainly change the draft in the future.

We have a few talls who have now had a year in the system. We only need 2 to come on. In the interim, Cox is still our best bet up forward with Mihocek.

Fair points- i agree we need a few more mids and runners and you can never have enough midfielders--quality teams bat 10-12 deep of midfield rotations.

I'm hopeful Tom Wilson comes on for us- especially since Cats and Hawks also wanted him desperately so clearly he is rated.

That’s the sense I get, yes. I’m just not sure I see that much coming through, though Murphy, Brown and Kelly I think will be good longer term prospects. Still wouldn’t mind another young option though if the alternative is Dunn coming off two knee recos.

Didn't look for xfactor small fwds who are crumbing types rather then play tall leading games like ours are, this is a position that regularly gets filled with success later in drafts.

KPF is harder to fill late so agree there.

Overall sounds like we have done well with picks but wouldn't of hurt to hit the xfactor smalls as well given iirc we still had a couple free list spots.

I didn't follow the draft this year mate but I bet my balls there are at least a few of that type player taken after 50 that go on to play games for other clubs, there are every year including rookie selections which iirc we passed on completely. Iirc we had 2 spots left I'm wondering why we couldn't fill them with some high risk high reward types, that wouldn't even of required us to change our selections.


Seems to me the club thinks we are in a good spot there or just rates ours at the role higher then I do or doesn't rate that style of player/role.

We only have the one (rookie) list spot open. We currently have 38 Primary List and 5 (Cat. A) Rookie List players, as well as the 3 Cat. B Rookies.

I suspected we were reasonably high. In my eyes, our forward line issues in 2019 were at ground level. We just didn't get enough blokes to the fall of the ball.

Riley Grundy is complete garbage mate. There’s a reason that Port delisted him and shoved him on the rookie list.

Agree - I think Philips looks a promising prospect with great versatility given his size.

Somebody mentioned Ned saying we've left it open for Dunn, the whole format of the draft has been a cockswaggle to follow.

No. We passed on our selection, so still have that spot open. We'll take Dunn (or somebody else) in the SSP, sometime between now and (about) mid-March to give us a full list.

Perhaps we're still going to take Dunn but it'll give us an extra few months to see how his knee rehab is going? Saves us committing to him for an entire year now if he's not a realistic chance to play.

If we waste it on Dunn then it's negligence for mine. There's absolutely no logic as to wasting a year with a 33yr old coming off back to back ACLs on the list when we have the opportunity to get 12 months of development into a kid.
