NORTH MELBOURNE — 12TH

THEIR BEST ASSET
If you look at the North Melbourne teamsheet every week, you’ll notice that have an A-grade player across every line. Robbie Tarrant was snubbed from the All-Australian squad, despite an amazing year down back. Todd Goldstein dominated in the ruck once again, tapping the ball down to contested ball hard nut Ben Cunnington. Up forward, Ben Brown finished runner-up in the Coleman Medal and is their key target inside 50.

BIGGEST GAPING HOLE
But for all their star power in crucial spots, the Roos are let down by their depth and the bottom-tier of players. Impressively they’ve found some young guns for the future, in Tarryn Thomas, Cam Zurhaar and Nick Larkey — but there are still a lot of unknowns with their list. A number of players in the 21-25 year old bracket appear to be going nowhere in terms of their development and they still appear to be a few A-B grade players away from contending for the premiership.

WHO TO TARGET WITH THEIR FIRST PICK?
Tarryn Thomas, Bailey Scott and Curtis Taylor were all selected by the club in 2018, with the forward-half prospects all playing AFL games this year. The Roos might look for players at the other end of the ground, as well as adding to their midfield. North Melbourne has Pick 7, with dashing half back Lachie Ash a potential candidate. He could form a potent half back line, playing alongside Jasper Pittard. A key defender like Fischer McAsey too could come into their thoughts.

2020 VISION
10th-14th — The Roos still seem a while off playing finals and there was no doubting that the ‘caretaker’ effect helped them in season, meaning 2019 is somewhat hard to judge.

Is Higgins no longer considered A-Grade?

This campaigner must have only analysed the games we lost.

Interesting article on AFL website on Gould and Dylan Stephens. Where do they sit for us? Is our pick too high for them? Both have the sort of qualities we would be looking for, love that they have been playing good senior footy. Also Partington worth a look??

The kid has a lot a poise.

That was Higginsesque!
Good draft. It would be awesome to package up picks somehow.

Also just watched Pickett’s highlights on the port board, very good.

He’ll be around the mark.

I’m tipping his stocks will rise after the combine and after his last 6 weeks of senior footy with Norwood. He’ll test better in the endurance stuff than just about any other junior.

That goal was at a time when Sturt had just kicked 3 in a row to almost threaten - he’d only had 13 touches prior, but just looked like everytime he went forward he knew what to do with it

His endurance is top level, looks like he will be a genuine wingman

Been averaging up around 20 touches a game over the last 6 weeks and that’s in a very quality midfield with the likes of Grigg etc.

From what I’ve read over the last 6-8 weeks he had been getting a bit of a run through the centre square and holding his own against blokes 15kg heavier than him.

The biggest slight on Stephens at the start of the year was that his inside game wasn’t up to standard but during the champs and more recently at SANFL senior level he has shown he can hold his own on the inside as well.
