can anyone explain how North Melbourne are favourites? I know its their home game but Brissy seem like a lock to me they defeated the reigning premiers by 40+ and North got thumped by a very average team plus they may lose Cunnington. Getting on Brisbane before the odds change

Brisbane: $2.13 Sportsbet

Quite liking Brisbane for above reasons and Adelaide. Seem to remember Sydney struggling st times last season at the scg and the crows beating there in a game they were expected to get belted in. Don’t think those factors play a huge part but are something small in my mind. Think Sydney have more issues than Adelaide, and might be bias but this Adelaide side shouldn’t lose two on the trot

I’m going to be taking GC at the line. I really don’t think they will be as bad as most think they will be this year.
Fiorini looks like he is going to be an absolute star, guys like Miller,Miles and Witts are pretty serviceable in the middle and they have targets going forward. Sexton, Wright & Lukosius are all dangerous. They could have easily beaten St Kilda on the weekend.
As for Fremantle they did look impressive but North were equally unimpressive, Mcarthy won’t be kicking 5 goals too many times this year. And last year they had a terrible record away from home 2-9. They might very well win this game but I see it being a close fought battle

For the record, the most McCarthy kicked before the weekend was 5 and 4. Both against Gold Coast ;)

North had an undermanned defense today and our talls ran rampant on them.
GC also have an undermanned defense, I'm not saying freo are going to be great this year but our new strength is probably our tall forward line, whereas defense seems to be the GC big weakness.

Can't have Freo 30 point favourites against anyone on a neutral ground, let alone someone elses home ground.

Solid overreaction to round 1. Hope the line doesn't move too much by Friday.

You can bet now if you are worried about that

Essendon are at sucker odds.

$1.30

Old adage is apt here - never take short odds about a bad team
Tough one to call. Ess were terrible and during the period last year when they were a bit of a rabble they lost to Carl.

Mind you how good were StK? Not very. 1 point win against a consensus wooden spoon team with little talent and playing on the road. GC copped a few injuries to through the game.
