Only people who don’t watch the Dees think Grundy is the undisputed best ruck in the game. Have heard he was playing injured though. Very excited to see them go against each other again in Round 21.

Gawn has been the best ruck in the league since 2017 and hasn’t been surpassed IMO.

Only Dees Supporters and Pies haters think Gawn has been anywhere near Grundy.

GAwn took the points clearly today- yet only due to big last q IMO. His influence on the game was minimal until the last.

Grundy was at about 50% fitness- about the same as Maxy's disposal efficiency.
Could see Grundy labouring last week against our inexperienced rucks.

If Grundy had 35 possies in a game- pretty sure Collingwood would not be getting pantsed by 40-odd points.

Gawn has had a 'good' year.
Grundy has had a 'great' year.

Plenty to go, but let's not base decisions around one match.

I think ruck is the one spot where this can and should be factored in to the equation. It's not the be all/end all, but it's the one position where basically all of the contenders would have matched up against each other at least once during the season and it probably says a bit about whoever took the points on the day.

Winning the head to head in a game doesn't cancel out a dominant season, but if it ends up being line ball like last year, a performance like that would probably warrant Gawn getting the first ruck spot and consign Grundy to the bench again.

If jack crisp ain't in the discussion for a back flank I'm watching the wrong games

Rated elite pre season

Hasn't missed a game
Very consistent
Team winning
Plenty of ball , hasn't lost a contest
Must be in the conversation

His spot to lose
Crisp wouldn't be close

Gawn won the battle today for sure. Grundy was underdone, but that's not really a consideration for AA. It's about performances.

I still think Grundy gets the spot because Gawn had a slowish start to the year, whereas Grundy has been at superstar level from the get go. WHoever doesn't get the starting spot should make the bench anyway at this stage.

Yep I've had Blicavs in weeks ago. Thought I was being biased but **** that. He's been brilliant and deserves his place in the side.
He’s incredible. Versatile. Runner that can defend.
Got an underrated gun. Put him on the wing, and he runs all day. Half back he reads the play as well as anyone. Shores up Geelong’s back really well

Grundy a lock

DeGoey going be hard to keep out of a forward pocket, 25 goals from 10 games.

Crisp Pendles and Treloar a chance, Pendles was screwed about 3 years in a row so his due a Selwood type AA.

Given it's a specialist position and only one makes the starting side, I think it's a valid debate.

If there's two standout ruckmen who could both be considered in the best 15 or so players in the league that season, they tend to find a spot for one on the bench. If there isn't two standout ruckmen, they don't bother with a back up on the bench.

I mean I think it's worthwhile to debate who makes the starting side and who makes the bench, perhaps moreso than any other position.

More evidence of the obvious flaw trusting the coaches votes.
Everyone at the SCG went with either Papley or Rampe as BOG. Most I spoke with thought Rampe.
Papley gets 10 votes Rampe gets 1.
Either way it means Rampe was considered top 5 on ground out of the 44, but his game gets marked down as worth 1/10th of the points Papley got.

That's the issue with defenders right there. Even if u play 12-15 sensational games for the season, a defender may only get 20 coaches votes total and not even be in their top 50 list at years end. It creates such a ridiculous skew by mid season that they really need to examine how it is calculated...especially when so many seem to take these votes into account.

Why is Cunnington being debated ?
I'm not tracking it properly this year but seems to me he's been top5 of the mids and therefore strolls in if it were selected at this point. Gun season.

Rampe and Parker the only two swannies in contention right now. Parker's form has steadily improved from good to great thru the season. In the mix but no cert.

Rampe is our best shot, and been sensational. He looks bang on track for another AA.
