I reckon getting rid of the U15s is a good thing. There are very few players here in WA who get named in the U15s SSWA one year and then the U16s the next year. It is almost always under 10 players. There surely can't be that much turnover? More than half U15's are never heard of again in football circles. I don't think the U15's are taken too seriously? its expensive (apporx $3K) for WA kids so that counts a lot of kids out and then the following year they can make a team with minimal costs. The SSWA trials here are bash and crash - one game per trial so its very dependant on how big your personality is and what position who get. I went to these trials this year in WA and I can assure this list is not the best kids from WA week in week out. They are mostly flashy kids who held the ball for far too long and turned it over too often but because they took a few risks they were noticed. The U16s is indicative of a much more balanced player who has been watched in a team following team rules and not just looking after themselves.

While I feel there is some value in the 15's carnival for the players, states & academies, I don't see anything remotely healthy in it being a bigfooty thread.

AFLM ???? never heard of it

remind me after the draft
I reckon its tough to be born anywhere from 2002 to 2004. much more limited opportunities with the current corona climate. its not fair to go off performances from last year - some kids don't even make squads until their draft year. and the 2004's are this year's U16 and up until now haven't had a opportunity to be picked in anything as there's no bottom agers in U16. I don't even count the School sport U15- those teams are never an indication of future draftees - maybe less than a handful go on to be drafted.

We have 4 players on our list from the 2014 school sports U15 team.

Might be 5. I’d have to check, if someone has the photo.

A much bigger percentage don’t make it than do so it’s hardly a reliable place to look for future drafts if that age group completely misses their U16 year. Here in WA the U15 is a farce. Rich white boys is the theme of that team and anyone who has ever been to one of the coaches private academies. WA football have nothing to do with this team nor do they consider it an important stepping stone in the talent pathway.

It’s a starting place.

Many of the top Vic boys make the team each year, and go through the age groups as AA’s.

Jasper Scaife is a member of Freo's NGA academy, I know nothing about him besides this.

Jed Hagan looks a real prospect however.

Edit: Also think there was an article in The West about Luke Brown, 199cm tall forward I believe

199cm already?

SHEESH!

Initially a thread for U15 talk, I've changed the title to reflect a more formal chatter surrounding these names.

Also, we're in the 2nd half of 2020 and we're a year elapsed from the final U15 championships which means that they're officially 2022 draft prospects rather than merely U15's of 2019 or U12's of 2016.

From what I've read the past few posts and elsewhere the last year, Jed Hagan and Elijah Tsatas are the ones to dethrone.

I'm interested in how these 2004 born players develop and grow in the next 27 months.

Elijah Tsatas is a star in the making, Will Ashcroft, George Wardlaw, Jonti Schuback and Matthew Payne are quality mids. Matthew Jefferson is the leading key position player from Victoria.

Plenty of gun kids in SA aswell including Kobe Ryan, Jamison Snelling, Adam D’Aloia, Jaiden Magor, Will Dowling, Austin McDonald, Riley Verrall and Hunter Carter.

Jed Hagan from WA is a Will Phillips type, Luke Brown is a tall FF who has kicked bags at PSA level.

I mentioned Scaife as a Freo NGA prospect earlier in the thread (192cm with a goal in each futures game he played, so I'm assuming he's a tall forward), but we also have Chase Bourne and Josh Draper. I know Draper is a ruck (186cm, needs a growth spurt to make it as a ruck), but I don't know where Bourne plays.
