Personally, I am hoping to get up to Melbourne for 3 or so days in the first week. Will get a 3-day ground pass and enjoy it. It has been a couple of years since I have been.

As always, I will be all over my local tournament in Hobart. Always good to see the up and comers down here, since all the big names go to the Premier tournament in Sydney. Perhaps a very special player will come down this year. Her ranking is in the perfect spot. ;)

The 2020 Schedule could be vastly different if they follow on with the plans, so enjoy it while it lasts

As mentioned in another thread, the prices for the Aus Open has been somewhat frozen or decreased from last year.

Other things they mentioned today
  • The prize-money pool will increase to AUD $60.5 million – up 10 per cent on 2018.
  • The brand new Player Pod will offer players the very best training, treatment, dining and relaxing areas in the world’s best player facilities.
  • Introduction of a 25-second serve clock.
  • Maintaining 32 seeds in the main draw and in qualifying.
  • Electronic review system on all match courts.
  • Increased women’s qualifying draw to 128 players.
  • Qualifying tournament to start a day earlier, on Tuesday 8 January.
  • Ongoing trials for on-court coaching in qualifying and juniors.
  • High-profile practice matches to be held at @MCourtArena at 3:00 pm on each day of qualifying.
Shot clock is great and the increased qualifying draw for the girls is great. Also happy with the 32 seeds.

Worth mentioning Brisbane will officially start on the Monday this year with no main draw woman's games on the Sunday. The womans final will now be played on the Sunday which could make scheduling in Sydney / Hobart a bit of a headache.

Other news is the Adelaide Challenger in week 1 has been upgraded to an ATP 90 event which is the highest level Challenger played in Australia. They will expect another good field.

True, but normally, the player who does well in the first week of the summer, somehow (amazingly) always gets "injured" for the 2nd week. Hobart especially.

Good news for Adelaide. always found it queer that they don't have a top-level tournament anymore. Should be a good field.

I presume Tennis Australia will need to give one AO Wildcard to Andy Murray?

With Kubler's season done now due to injury he will also need one if fit.

Murray would have a PR or has he used them already.

Wawrinka is 68, which solves that potential headache. Tsonga is 250 odd, which creates another. Surely he will play the Ao if not injured one way or another. I am not against Tsonga getting a WC(heck, the French might use their WC on him)

Marcos Baghdatis, another AO fav, is 128. Be a shame if he fails to qualify.

The only long long injury for a WTA player I can think of who is over #100, is Timea Bacsinszky, who will have a PR i would think.

I know there is still a few challengers left but the 5 wildcards should be a lock and the playoff scrapped. Kubler, Bolt, Kokkanksis, Popryin & Polmans. All around 100 - 150 and all had solid years apart from Kokk who can play the injury card still i guess (and the challenger he won).

Providing everyone is fit, wouldn't want anyone outside that 5

Updated.

Alex's first week is in Brisbane, which is not a shock. Kevin Anderson starting his season in India again this year. A couple of more young names in at Sydney.

A lot of new names on the women's draw. A lot of it is unconfirmed by the tournaments themselves. Got it off twitter/another forum. The best players(as in every year), will be playing in Brisbane, outside a few, then they all go to Sydney or rest for Melbourne(etc Serena-Sharapova). We will know everything in a couple of weeks. Hobart announced its full draw in late November last year, so expect full draws for the WTA soon.

No Halep yet in China. It will be interesting to see how she starts her season with her injury.

On Novak
it says on his website that his next tournament is Doha. I don't think he has played in Brisbane, so it seems likely. Nothing by the Qatar tournament though and you think they would have announced it by now. He and Halep are the biggest names not announced yet for the first week. So. slight guesswork on something which may be out of date.

Please no I've wasted enough time on this clown already, don't want him raising my hopes once again before the inevitable failure

Full playing list for the first week updated.

Novak and Theim are both in Qatar. Cilic and Anderson are in India. Nadal and Kei are in Brisbane with both Tsonga and Murray using PR to get into the Brisbane draws. Fed and Zverev are, of course, playing in Perth.

For the girls, 7 of the top 10 are playing in Brisbane. The odd 3 out are Kerber(Perth) and Woz(Auckland) and Halep. Halep is not playing in the first week but looks likely to be in Sydney for the 2nd. She didn't play in Sydney last year, so that is a change. A lot of players have confirmed for Sydney but I will wait a week to update that.

Hobart is very quiet. The only news i heard last week was that the highest seed in the draw so far was Mihaela Buzarnescu. No Mertens or Stosur as of yet. The draw in Sydney always has a very high cut off.

Was watching Quantum of Solace last night on C9, and this ad came up:

Federer tearful for 10 seconds with Basil commentary
Warrior Nadal
Super Mum Serena
Invincible(?) Novak
Unpredictable Kyrgios
Giant Slayer Millman
Future Ashleigh Barty

nooooooooooooooooooooo...still, it looks better than C7 Cricket, which just looks like cancer.

Draws are out for the 2nd week.

Hobart has no Mertens :'( Too good for us now. Stosur will take a WC into Sydney you would think as she is not in Hobart.

Schmieds hasn't made the Hobart draw. No idea if she is in qualies. We always get a lot of withdrawals so, if she is smart, she will stay in the draw. She will be in the main draw when the event starts

Personally, looking forward to watching Bencic, Pav, Cornet and some of the younger players in Hobart.

The Sydney is Sydney. Super strong with stars left right and center. Interesting that Keys is not playing in either week as of yet. Probably an injury knowing her.

Got a bit slack.

it has also been cut to 3 days. BTW, Coco is not a big name. She is ranked 100 odd and wouldnt even make the cut for Hobart. I am half expecting Eugnenie Bouchard(no.88) will join her if Hobart/Sydney doesnt offer her a WC.

That is a fairly good draw for ATP Sydney. No top 10 players but the depth is very strong.

What happened to Coco? She was ranked much higher a year ago
injuries and a complete lack of form.

Her last win on the WTA was at Hertogenbosch in June. she made the semis there and the finals at Stuttgart. That was basically her year last year(outside of doubles)
