I hope Quaynor shows enough through the JLT series to enter the selection equation. I'd love him to cement a spot in the 22 this year.
He might get a look in early due to absence of Dunn and Scharenberg but it will be hard to cement a spot.

Can’t see Reid getting much of a look in in 2019. He was fit - or at least uninjured - in the back end of 2018 but was not selected. They may have worried about his apparent fragility as we entered and rose through the finals. Or we didn’t want to mess with a winning formula. Or he was not match fit. Whatever the thinking, he was overlooked.

Who knows if this will change in 2019, but I think it will be hard for him, experience, height and all.

Doing a round 1 team in December is fraught with danger.
Who is ready who is not?

At this stage we’d figure not ready is Dunn (but ofcourse he might be ready; but for this excercise we’ll assume not),
Scharenberg not ready, Broomhead not ready.
Kelly not ready, Wills not ready (is he ever free of injury ready?).
Where is Moore?
Reid?

The next step is making a judgment call and saying the newbies have to earn their way in so sorry IQ.

Then are the finals players (there were no changes at all) given first dibs so to speak?

We also know with certainty Beams gets picked:

Round 1:

B: T Langdon ~ J Roughead ~ B Maynard
HB: J Howe ~ D Moore ~ J Crisp
C: S Sidebottom ~ A Treloar ~ D Beams
HF: J De Goey ~ B Mihocek ~ J Stephenson
F: J Elliott ~ M Cox ~ W Hoskin-Elliott
R: B Grundy ~ S Pendlebury (c) ~ T Adams
I: B Sier ~ T Varcoe ~ T Phillips ~ J Thomas

E: T Goldsack, C Mayne, L Greenwood, J Aish.

In: D Beams, D Moore, J Elliott, J Roughead
Out: T Goldsack, C Mayne, L Greenwood, J Aish

Aish, Varcoe, Mayne, Greenwood and Goldsack unfortunate
No room at all for Mihocek? Did you just forget him, as he'd have to be unlucky to not even get a mention among the 'unfortunate'?!

I'm hoping we can find someone to replace Mayne soon enough, but it would be very surprising if he wasn't in our Rd. 1 team. It would also be very surprising if Wells was there. I hope we can get a few quality games from him in 2019, but just doubt that he'd be seen so early in the year.

What I would like to see round 1.

B: Langdon (189) Reid (196) IQ 180:think:
HB: Howe (190) Moore (203) Crisp (190)
C: Sidebottom (185) Beams (187) Treloar (182)
HF: Wilbur (186) Mihochek (192) Varcoe (180)
FF: Elliott (178) Cox (211) DeGeoy (191)
R: Grundy (203) Adams (181) Pendle (191)
B: Thomas (178) Stephenson (188) Maynard (189) Sier (191)

My shock none selection is Phillips, Nooo:eek:! At the end of the day It came down to either Sier or Phillips. Both limited players in their ability to play multiple positions. If Sier develops his forward craft, he's a lock. If Phillips develops the ability to lock down small to medium forwards, he's in.

IQ the smoky! Quaynor IMO is the type of player CFC have missed for a number of seasons now. That player with the ability to lock down small forwards while providing defensive rebound with good foot skills. His selection could release Maynard to play further up the ground which I am very excited about!

Fitness of the big three, Moore, Reid and Elliott.. If all fit they are a lock in my side. If plagued by injury once again, my round 1 side will look significantly different. Good news by all accounts is that all three are in full training pre-christmas!

Pretty good to see that we lead the competition in terms of stars (stratistically). Now it's the next 12 players we need to worry about.

DAYNE Beams' return has lifted Collingwood above all rivals when it comes to star quality.

Nathan Buckley's team is the only one to boast 10 players in the top 100 in Champion Data's Official AFL Player Ratings.

The Magpies' perfect 10 comprises All Australian ruckman Brodie Grundy (No.4), midfielders Adam Treloar (18), Scott Pendlebury (21), Steele Sidebottom (28), Taylor Adams (31), defenders Jack Crisp (44) and Jeremy Howe (61), ex-Lion Beams (65), wingman Tom Phillips (87) and emerging star Jordan de Goey (90).

I just posted this in another thread... we have a solid elite group of players. If Moore can lift like DeGoey did would be huge for the team.

Reid is done IMO... 10 games tops this year for him.

The only change would be a positional thing and probably doesn't really matter, but swap Sidebottom and Treloar. Otherwise, spot on.

Adams would be picked as well but I am guessing this was an accidental oversight.
Oh snap, how could I forget about him!

I'll edit my post above

Tricky exercise as there’s quite a bit of depth.
Taking into account known injuries (those that really impact this season) this is round about it.

I’ve also listed the seconds team of all the remaining players to indicate our “two” sides in theory.

So the longer term injured so to speak will be n the seconds.

Collingwood

B. T Langdon ~ J Roughead ~ B Maynard
HB. J Howe ~ D Moore ~ J Crisp
C. S Sidebottom ~ D Beams ~ A Treloar
HF. D Wells ~ J De Goey ~ J Stephenson
F. J Elliott ~ M Cox ~ W Hoskin-Elliott
R. B Grundy ~ S Pendlebury (c) ~ T Adams
I. B Mihocek ~ B Sier ~ C Mayne ~ T Phillips
C. N Buckley

E. B Reid, T Varcoe, C Brown, J Thomas

Seconds Side

B. I Quaynor ~ L Dunn (c) ~ F Appelby

HB. M Scharenberg ~ W Kelly ~ T Varcoe
C. J Aish ~ L Greenwood ~ N Murphy

F. B Crocker ~ T Goldsack ~ J Daicos
R. M Lynch ~ R Wills ~ C Brown
I. J Madgen ~ T Brown ~ A Bosenavulagi ~ S Murray

I like the idea of using the Bye Round to speculate on our “finals side.”

Things we do know:

Dunn is out injured this season, Wells :( likely as well.
Langdon is this an issue? I’m unsure, so until known otherwise we might suppose he’s in doubt.
Beams also sadly in the injured list :(

Adams and Elliott will be back.

2019 Collingwood Finals team:

B: M Scharenberg ~ J Roughead ~ B Maynard
HB: J Crisp ~ D Moore ~ J Howe
C: S Sidebottom ~ A Treloar ~ T Phillips
HF: W Hoskin-Elliott ~ J De Goey ~ C Mayne
F: J Elliott ~ M Cox ~ J Stephenson
R: B Grundy ~ S Pendlebury (c) ~ T Adams
I: B Mihocek ~ B Sier ~ C Brown ~ J Thomas
C. N Buckley

E: B Reid, L Greenwood, J Aish, T Varcoe

All very squeezed as Langdon back what happens? One or two spots can fall any which way.
