I like the idea of using the Bye Round to speculate on our “finals side.”

Things we do know:

Dunn is out injured this season, Wells :( likely as well.
Langdon is this an issue? I’m unsure, so until known otherwise we might suppose he’s in doubt.
Beams also sadly in the injured list :(

Adams and Elliott will be back.

2019 Collingwood Finals team:

B: M Scharenberg ~ J Roughead ~ B Maynard
HB: J Crisp ~ D Moore ~ J Howe
C: S Sidebottom ~ A Treloar ~ T Phillips
HF: W Hoskin-Elliott ~ J De Goey ~ C Mayne
F: J Elliott ~ M Cox ~ J Stephenson
R: B Grundy ~ S Pendlebury (c) ~ T Adams
I: B Mihocek ~ B Sier ~ C Brown ~ J Thomas

C. N Buckley

E: B Reid, L Greenwood, J Aish, T Varcoe

All very squeezed as Langdon back what happens? One or two spots can fall any which way.
For bench rotations and for having the option of a loose man in defence, every team names 7 defenders, so one of Aish or Greenwood has to play.

Who would you take out of those 2 and who would you drop?

You know, I did think of that, but pushed on through th Nik got Mayne and Phillips can do the work back.

But if it had to be that extra defender probably Aish just.
But
if there was a dirty job to do, then Greenwood might be calked in. Tough call.

Who misses, be Callum for me just over Thomas.

All based on today’s status of form.

Grundy Pendlebury Adams
Beams Sidebottom Treloar

Mihocek WHE Stevo
De Goey Cox Elliott

Phillips Mayne Greenwood Aish/Sier

Season:
Wells Dunn Langdon Reid
Think Sier gets in.

Wells is ahead of Beams in his training for what it's worth. He is a shot by all reports. Would need probably two VFL games I'd expect (so needs to play one the week after next).

AC joint operation. Saw him in the rooms today, not sure if he will return.

Stevo and Jordy will definitely get back, Wells touch and go. Langdon, Dunn and probably Beams gone.

Problem is we cannot have too many back from long lay-offs. Will be happy to get Stevo and Jordy back into the forward line.

Out of just some interest that’s five changes from our last game last season.

In: Moore, Roughead, Scharenberg, Elliott, Brown.

Out: Cox, Goldsack, Langdon, Varcoe, Aish.

I think I would have Wills in over Sier atm despite Sier's far greater upside, Sier seems to be hindered this year by injury. If Wells is fit I would have him in over one of JT/Brown and push Sidebottom forward more

If Aish is back then that really muddles it up a bit, are you dismissing him because it makes it easier selecting the team or because he is cooked injury wise which I cant recall :p

If Wells is available I’d certainly take him.

High risk high reward.

Well Jordy should be back in a couple but it is sounding more likely that Moore will struggle to get back. Must have been a severe hammy.

Best case scenario is we get DeGoey, Moore and Stephenson back into the side who are locks for best 18 when fit.

Wells is an interesting one because we saw a glimpse of what he can do earlier in the year when fit and in the side. Shame about getting injured... but if fit I would have him in the side. Adds a bit of class and silk across half forward and up the wing.

Aish and Sier are interesting ones. Would love to have both in the side but the issue is who comes out?

As this is an opinion thread here is what I would like to see occur over the next few weeks leading into finals (from this weekends line up):

INS: Moore, DeGoey, Stephenson
OUTS: Madgen, Wills, Noble

If Wells is right to play then it is interesting who comes out - when putting the side together I would say it would be one of Thomas/Varcoe/Brown/Mayne. However I haven’t added Wells into the side because I think it’s more unlikely than likely that he plays.

B - Howe Roughead Greenwood
HB - Maynard Moore Crisp
C - Phillips Pendlebury Sidebottom
HF - WHE Mihochek Varcoe
F - Elliott DeGoey Stephenson
R - Grundy Adams Treloar
INT - Sharenberg Thomas Mayne Brown

Start with the smaller forward setup but can always swing Moore down there and play Sharenberg as the other tall defender.

I feel this 22 has a good mix and good versatility.

I really like the look of the mix down back - there are 2 genuine KPD (Moore & Roughead), 1 intercept mark type (Howe), 1 lockdown hard nut back pocket (Greenwood) and 2 running half backs who can also defend (Maynard & Crisp). Also have Sharenberg starting on the bench but he can play a variety of roles down back.

I can guarantee opposition defenders would likely be very uneasy with a forward line that consists of DeGoey, Stephenson and Elliott. Especially if Elliott can get going.

Get this side out there and anything can happen.

LOL don't count on it - over 5 decades of supporting this club has wised me up regarding the f*cking footy gods and Collingwood.
You almost have to wonder does such deities exist?

You would think just once we could a reasonable run at it.

Just imagine if most of these players had a clear season of fitness:

De Goey, Moore, Wells, Stephenson*,
Adams, Elliott, Langdon, Beams, Hoskin-Elliott ....

Sure some are back by a full season with few setbacks.

Be something - alas no.

You might be on to something.
