Ok, what do we do? I love Geary but obviously it's not working.

I honestly can't think of a single player that ticks all of the boxes. Maybe Jack Steele? Carlisle would be good but again he's a defender.

Others have mentioned Seb Ross but I just don't see it with him. We need a player that can grab the game by the scruff of the neck and get us over the line ala Lenny and Roo.

Thoughts?

My nomination for next season is Jake Carlisle.

- He's been our best and most reliable player which should take him mighty close to the Trevor Barker medal.
- He's BIG, 26-27yo and has a commanding presence.
- I love the way he has turned around his reputation and built trust and respect from the playing group through sheer determination and class.
- There is also no one else who wants it or is capable (just yet for some)
- We're not getting Sloane (who's 29 and inj all the time anyway)

To the people citing 'he's a defender' as a reason against his candidacy, I put forward Phil Davis, Shannon Hurn, Easton Wood and Steven May. All highly respected leaders i would say internally and externally. Whether they suffer from 'being defenders' in terms of their captaincy impact I'm not sure but unlikely. When we're in trouble and the opposition has a shit ton of momentum and Carlisle floats in for a huge settling defensive contested mark, that's a little more inspiring than poor old jarryn awkwardly paddling it away towards the boundary or getting 8 gut wrenching turnovers.

It shouldn't be just handed to Ross or a begrudging Steven meaning Geary should retain it for his final year on his contract if it isn't handed over to Carlisle next season. Admittedly.. if Geary is captain and Richo coach next season and we get pumped round one, not even the saints will prevent the angel of death.

Would love Jack Steven as captain.
Doesn't seem like he is interested but if he wanted to do it I'd love him as captain.
Heart and soul player and often steps up when we need him.

Richo is here next year. Geary will be captain, selected every week and played as the plus one defender to justify the previous two points.

Yeah, the worst part about Geary being captain is it means we kind of have to play him.
How about Geary doesn't play but sits on the bench in Richo's spot. Richo can run drinks out to the players if he wants to eyeball them. All we need then is someone up in the coaches box making decisions like throwing Ross back, Carlisle forward and Acres into the ruck. Pretty sure we can find someone who can manage that down in the Newstart queue anywhere.

Would be interesting if Jake went up a level with the responsibility.
Club wont do it because hes a naughty boy.
If they had the media/PR machine of a big 4 club, could easily turn it into a great redemption story.
However in the red, white and black, he would only get a bigger target on his head than there is now.

Steven is too aloof to be a captain.
Maybe we can pull something big trade week and find someone else..

After watching the way Ross reacted after he fumbled the ball letting Bont kick a goal then I would say him . He was furious with himself which showed he was giving his all and really cared . I don’t think we have too many other options at this stage.

Carlisle for me - seems to have the self confidence to carry it, not sure anyone else does.

He's a roaming defender so not as isolated as Gears was in the Back Pocket - before he became our key creative runner out of the back half of course....
