Yes. Sorry. My quoting didn't work.

It's cause my post was a quote with no additional text. Doesn't hurt to add a dot just to make sure it functions.

Dogs are pushing for Ollie Florent (who is contracted until 2020) and has a new deal in front of him.

I think he'd be a good fit for your running game also.

Also this guy is considered one of the most respected ITKs on this site. Make of that what you will.

Yes. I know how quoting works, thanks.

Appreciate you posting it here, just adding context for those who have queried it.

Cheers.

And if Ollie decides Sydney isn't the club for him then so be it. He is clearly a talented player & seems like a great kid who will go far. Of all our junior players, I feel a greater level of respect given his fathers passing & how well he has come on at the club thus far even given this. He must be one resiliant bloke... So hope we keep him in our ranks.

Same.

Have the feel he will grow into one of those in house leaders that fo not see much but have bigger impact in the rooms. Just IMO

If he does go (and Jones) I won't hold it against him. The only player I've been shitty about leaving on that basis was Jolly.

It points to this ongoing problem though. Player retention for the frontier clubs in tough times. It's all very well when we're competing for flags and, sure, we can recruit marquee players but attracting and keeping solid citizens is always difficult when the value of a contract in Melbourne is 20% more and Mum lives not far away.

They really need to loosen the Academy rules back to what they were and ensure a good bunch of talent at the frontier clubs is locally sourced.

If he goes it would be understandable at least. Family is everything and I'd 100% understand it. We better get something back though, and it better not be Mason Wood!

Yeah ok...make of this what you will!

The consensus is that it’s a shallow draft after the top handful of guys. I haven’t read or heard anything to suggest the guys rated highly in the top half a dozen are of a lower quality than usual.
I'm pretty sure I have read a fair bit of how maybe only the top two would make the top ten of last years draft.

Agree with this, look if any player wants to go at the end of the day thats life.

All as a fan I ask if they give their all whilst here and preferably do what they can to help us get value. It does annoy me when players have a specific club in a state they demand to go too.

But end of this year we will delist some because it suits us, so goes both ways

Last year's draft was rated a better draft than the Judd/Hodge/Ball Superdraft though, very unfair to compare drafts to last season. There were top 10-12 talents well into the early to mid second round last year. We got Rowbottom in the 20's, Ian Hill looks a talent who went to GWS in the 2nd.

My understanding/ observation is that players in the range 2-15 are very even, quite a few flankers, hybrids with not many specialist mids in that range.

Having an early stab at the group is good of course, but with Kemp ACL, Robertson shoulder reco, highly rated flankers and some undersized types it shits me a little bit that this is the year we get the high pick. There's no Connor Rozee there.

That is why (and yes I know the reasons why we didn’t and couldn’t) I wanted another pick high last year. Wasn’t possible and we still got two great kids who both look stars.

Rozee wasn’t even Rozee in his draft year. He has taken his game to another level since joining an AFL list and there’s no reason a Serong or a Robertson or a Young can’t do the same.

Maybe but I’m backing last year’s draft to be better overall. The top 2 in this year’s draft could be the best for a while though.

Well duh! Last year’s draft was unreal. But it’s warped people’s perception about what a draft is. This year is a pretty normal draft

Agreed. This year’s draft is similar to the year before. It does thin out after 2 rounds though. Don’t think we’ll bother much after our early 3rd, maybe just upgrade Bell, etc
