List Mgmt. 2019 Draft Prospect Discussion

I reckon only giving up a future first rounder like we did for Beams was a reasonable result. Those who say we gave up 2 first rounders haven't adjusted yet to the new points system and bidding. Takes a while for some to catch on

Pick 16 just got a future first from a middle of the road team, plus enough points to have gotten us Quaynor and Kelly. With future pick trading, what could we have gotten for Pick 18 in a really highly rated draft? We'll never know, but it sure as hell wasn't without value just because we couldn't have used it in the draft other than towards Quaynor points.

The way I see it, we paid the equivalent of a top 10 pick for Beams. GWS traded 18 and 12 for Pick 6. With a bit of luck, we could have turned those two picks into something similar. Hopefully Beams comes good and justifies the price, but it was a hefty price. Future pick trading and academy points has increased the value of those picks in their teens and twenties - not for what they get you in the draft, but they're more valuable in terms of trade possibilities. If you trad them to the future, you can use them like everyone's unrealistic dream trade scenario - bundle some mediocrity to end up with something top shelf.

For mine, my preference would be 2 KPP's at 62 and 74. Yes I agree that they are risky, but really with the hand we have whoever we pick will come with an element of risk.

At 35 I would like a speedy outside mid, I saw Jeremy Sharp's name mentioned earlier and I think he is a super fit for our side. Good size at 189cm, with good pace and ability to find space and the ball on the outside.

35 Sharp
62 Riccardi
74 Jeka

While Riccardi and Jeka both have risk being late pick KPP's, I think they both have enough potential that they could become quality KPF's for us. Jeka was regarded as a first round pick prior to this year where he was hampered by injury.

Don’t see any of those players lasting that long in the draft imo.
Sharp will be snapped up prior to our first pick. Riccardi we pick up with our first pick or won’t be getting him, imo. Jeka unlikely too.

35- D.Williams (unlikely) H.Jones, Riccardi - in order

62 - Darcy Chirgwin, Dyson Hilder
74 - Liam Delahunty (GWS academy) hopefully they don’t match

Don’t mind Cooper Sharman either.

I'd move that future second from the saints and try and move into the 20s of this year's draft and grab Will Gould. Perhaps not a huge need, but he's a back to back U18 AA who profiles like Shannon Hurn and could play a big role next year thanks to a mature body. Could allow Crisp to move up the ground into the middle a bit more where we seem a little slow.

I'd also try to keep 35 in that exchange and take Riccardi or Georgiadis.

I think Port ends up taking him with one of their picks.

Jeka is the interesting one for mine. Personally I wouldn't take him with any other pick than 74, just given we've hardly seen him and he is hugely risky pick, granted with quite good upside. It will be interesting to where a club picks him, how early or late he goes. Riccardi I wouldn't mind at 35 either but I'm torn where he goes. Some rate him going before our 35 while others have him in the 50's-60ish mark, and I'm curious to see which bracket the club falls into.

Sharp I fully agree with you should be taken before 35, however I think he could be chance to slide to our pick. Hasn't received the hype of other early prospects, possibly thanks to being a WA boy and Cal Twomey's Oct Phantom Guide has him at about 25. We have seen in the past guys like Murphy slide down the order, so not to much of a stretch to see him drop a few down to 35. Imo grabbing him any later than the first 20-23 picks is a steal.

Obviously to try and get ahead of the Green bid. Crows will probably still get their target at 6 and also get a future first. Not bad for them.

I’ll laugh if Dees bid on Green now at pick 3!

I hope Melbourne pick Serong just so if he's a bust we can say they picked Serong player.

I think this year will be very similar to 2017, in that the draft is so even that there will be several big bolters and sliders. Hopefully we can grab a slider who ends up being amazing.

It's annoying to see that even the AFL website gets this wrong, referring to the upcoming Rookie Draft as the 2019 Rookie Draft - it's the 2020 Rookie Draft!! The 2019 RD was held this time last year!
