List Mgmt. 2019 Draft Prospects

Our 5 midsize defenders in the final this year were Sucklimg, Wood, Duryea, JJ & Crozier.

Come R1 next year they'll be 31, 30, 28, 27 & 26.

Why are people so fizzy on us adding depth in this area? Our list managers actually are considering how the list is looking a couple of years down the track FFS.
Im not guessing for other people but I would add Bailey Willams, La Young, and Vanderdermeer to that midsize defenders list. Further down you could also add Khamis developing.
If Keath doesn't hit the ground running, or Timmy gets injured who backs them up. We seem 1 or 2 or key defender/ruck short.

It's ok, maybe I was wrong. Time will tell but one day we will have to pay for any deficits and it looks to me like we are going to make them bigger and bigger. We could be the St Kilda of 2022 if we don't watch out. Imagine if we need a list clean out and all we have is picks 60, 80 & 100. That'll be great.

Easy turbo, we don’t need a clean out cos we are primed to give it a real crack from next season. Arguments sake our first 2020 pick is in the 10-15 range, JUH gets bid on in the top 3. To match, that 4th rounder is pushed to the back of the draft anyway with our 2nd rounder already gone & needing a metric ****tonne of points to match.

We’ve just traded a pick that doesn’t mean much at all in terms of points & that we’ve probably already accepted we won’t need or use

In a nutshell ...

All of us on BF read all the pundits' assessment of draft candidates, assiduously looked through all the phantom drafts, watched a few highlights and duly decided who we should draft.

I just guess !!

But how much of our list do you wanna dedicate to it? What about the other 17 spots and depth there? Next year in key defence we have Trengove, Young, Keath, Cordy. Keath and Trengove are both late 20’s and Young hasn’t proved much at all.

I think you are forgetting the best of them all

A bloke call Naughton can and I still think is a huge chance to end up down back one day.

if you move forward and imagine 2022, you can’t have Bruce, Naughts, Schache and JUH in the same forward line.

And I’d bet my a$$ the dogs are deep into McAsey already. Apparently he is absolute set on playing for us one day.

Also, pretty surprised Sokol & Kelly went undrafted. SURELY rookie picks (Kelly for sure), but based on what they’ve done I’d rate Sokol higher than Cavarra & we really went early for him

We have keath young trengove aswell as those who take medium/talls in cordy young wood crozier. Have no issues with the guys we picked up. Addressed the 4 needs of mine. Outside speed, small forward, footy smarts, aggression/pressure
I'd say key defence was also a need.
Keath is coming back from surgery, Le Young looks heaps better but not consistent yet, and I maybe be wrong but is Trengrove is in the last year of his contract?

While I actually don't mind the Butler pick because of his potential to play on a wing, to counter that point:

At 28, 27 and 26, Duryea, JJ and Crozier all have 3-6 years left in them. Hardly on the way out.

Further analysis of the list shows that we already have the players to take over from those who actually are on the way out, in the form of Richards (20), Daniel (23), Williams (22) and several more who have the potential in Young, Vandermeer, Buku, Lynch and Roarke.

I think we will have a few players leaving next year via trade. This will help our lack of picks next year.

Or are you referring to Wallis? We just gave him a 4 year contract. How stuffed will that be if we're paying for 3 years of his contract just to move him on?

Yeah i'm shocked as well. 6 goals in grand final in the WAFL( how was he for the year?) and Kelly would be great for depth for key defence/ruck

Well, I hope you're right.

Weightman & Garcia are exactly the type of players Richmond targeted when Austin was there. Even Butler, although a skilled half back, appears to be a very tenacious, repeat-effort type.

I think our list could be in for some heavier turnover next year and where there looks to be a glut now may not be so in 12 months.

I think we are alright in terms of kpd personnel and depth: lewy young, keath, cordy, trengove, Gardner. Lachie young, wood and duryea can all play above their height too.
Also naughton god forbid can play back out of necessity.
It would have been nice to have one developing though at footscray.

An important thing to keep in mind is that all other teams skipped the remaining talls at our pick so they all had the same queries.

A conversation for another thread but i seriously cant see how he fits into our midfield rotation unless he plays dickson's position up forward which he has done okay at.

You're right (he's a good set shot goal kicker these days). But you've got me worried about trade outs next season. There's some guys on the list, I don't think we'd get much for them but I'd prefer to keep them because they've shown a lot of potential. We'll trade them, not get much and then strike us all down, they star at the next club.

Didn’t forget him at all but right now he’s probably not on the KPD depth chart. Once JUH is ready to go there’s a high likelihood he goes back. In the mean time if Trengove leaves, Young doesn’t make it then we’re in deep shit. Fortunately we have nearly a dozen general defenders to save us.

I knew we’d draft three spuds. I said to my horse yesterday morning “you watch Clive, that ****er Powers will draft Weightram, Lindsay Bottles and that hack on crutches Garseed...”

Clive knows his potential draftees, he was all-in on McAfee, now he’s head-first in his stall, munching on anti-depressants.

Damn you Sal Powers.

It would be a pretty ****ing dire situation if Trengove, Le. Young, Keath, and Cordy were all unavailable (not to mention Naughton or Gardner). Unless we're talking about long term replacements, in which case I thought we should've invested but I'm not overly worried about it. There's always a Hamling/Hartley/Trengove/Frost type floating around that isn't really wanted at their club but can play a role somewhere else.
