TBH I think we miss anyway. Sammy Power has been vocal about us needing to spend our cap and bring experienced players into the side.
There are some decent tall options who might slide late if we want to go down that path. I suspect we trade two players in at least, a KPD and an outside runner.
You are possibly right. That's why I was hoping we would use next years first, this years second, package the thirds, fringe players for trades. Say we got Keath, he is 28 before the first bounce? At least with McAsey we could get an extra 8 years out of. Hence was hoping we could some how land him, along with a couple of trade in's. We need ready made players now, but we must make sure we do not ignore the team long term either. That's what usually bites teams on the ass once their 4-5 year window passes, and they drop hard because they had not enough long term quality to take over the short term gap fills/role players.

Right now Young is the only defensive tall we have that is young (not counting Naughton)
We also lack a Morris type shut down/man on man Medium

Yep I'd love to get Keath, and take a kid in the draft as well. The tall quick kid who was close to a mid-season pick screams Bulldogs late pick type too.
I suspect we're after 2-3 mature players though and given some of the names we've been linked to (Martin, Florent) our first pick is on the table. There's always a danger of falling in love with a kid pre-draft and changing your entire trading/draft plans to accommodate one kid e.g. so many people wanted us to trade the farm to swap pick 4 for pick 1 to get Tom Boyd. Pick 4 was the Bont who goes ok.
We almost did the same for Jack Martin - trading out picks 5 & 6 for the mini-draft selection, which would have been Macrae and Stringer.

I say this year we concentrate on trade period first to plug holes in our side that looks like a really solid framework is there, then nail the draft picks that are left over.

Don't forget Young.
Cordy is only 22
Do we not class Buku as a tall defender?
Guys, Young and Buku are both only 189cm, they are medium defenders.
Cordy is 193cm, a medium tall, struggles to win one on ones

Lewis Young is the only young tall defender we have. We need more defenders around the 195cm or more range, with strength and football smarts to take on the leagues power house forwards. Hence why we need a ready made one now in the trade period, but to also make sure we land one in the draft so we have someone to take over Trengrove for a decade.

The above guys are not talls, or strong. They are best suited for playing on the 2nd or third forwards/mediums/intercept roles. Not battling strong talls in the goal square and getting out marked every time.

Didn't Khamis have a growth spurt?

Anyone know much about Sam Philip?

Sounds like he could be a good fit as a quick outside mid with a penetrating kick and will slide to later in the draft due to not playing Championships. Is he more suited to being around the contest or out on a wing?

Luke Jackson the WA U18 Ruck could be used as a KPD he is a bit on the short side for an AFL Ruck at 198cm. Not sure where he would rated with regards to the draft though

This. I don’t understand why more isn’t made of mobile slightly undersized ruckman as kpd’s. Just because a kid is assessed as not going to make it as a ruck (not saying this about Jacksob, I wouldn’t have a clue) does not mean all is lost. Must be plenty around in U18 comps or state leagues worth looking at. Yet we seem to have struggled to find one for years.

Not a fan of overseas teams.....
The Bulldogs have been strongly linked to giant Ethiopian sensation Khaloub Denial, Big KD who stands
at an impressive 222 cm and weighs 105 kg has impressed scouts with his control of the Sherrin. Asked
for comment Bulldogs president Peter Gordon said "We have been into Denial since the end of the 2016
season."
What???

Angus Baker won NEAFL best and fairest, 191cm midfield that avg 30 disposals 14 times in Demons best, tough tackling midfield with great inside and out speed

Could be a good late selection

Just want to vent for a moment about the idea of Gold Coast getting a priority pick, which looks increasingly likely to happen.

I get that they need some help, but until they are able to actually retain any of these high draft picks, giving them more of them is completely useless. Who it really helps is the Hawthorns and the Collingwoods and the Richmonds, teams who are the most likely to snap them up in a couple of years when they are sick of being developed poorly. They just become a farm for these bigger teams.

And who does it hurt? The teams that finished 15-18th, who also deserve help from the draft, who maybe miss out on the player they wanted now. ******* bullshit.

Give them an increased salary cap so they can retain players and attract big names, to offset the fact that nobody really want to play for them. That would help them much more, as well as stinging the clubs with tight salary caps (which in theory should reflect a strong list).

Giving them pick 2 just hurts teams that are down and benefits teams that are up, while doing next to nothing for Gold Coast.

OK rant over.

Who do the draft watcher sthink we'll target with late picks?

Wondering if there are any Vandermeer/Lachie Young types in the draft that aren't on the radar for an early pick but just have at least one elite trait that can be developed.

With Trengove spending more time at KPD too I wouldn't be surprised if we consider a ruck/forward (subject to trade week).
