What is special about Rivers?
Very good user of the ball, being one of the best kicks in the draft, with a huge amount of versatility (which would have Bevo drooling). Classic Dogs pick, considering he's another bloody inside/outside mid who plays on half back line too. Fairly smart player in terms of decision making, has great leadership skills.

He's a fairly similar build to someone like Macrae, being just a little skinnier (obviously, given his age) and maybe a couple centimetres off. So he's fairly tall for someone playing his position, which can be an advantage. His endurance has always been one of his biggest weaknesses, but he did really well in this area at the combine which indicates that he's really worked on it.

Not sure about his speed though. I wouldn't be overly keen on taking him at 13, but wouldn't be that disappointed either. In my opinion, Pick 13 could possibly be considered a slight reach, but it's not unrealistic either. He'll be a very good player

Trent Rivers 188 cm 85 kg (old measure), Jackson Macrae 188 cm 80 kg (when drafted).

Another of the mystical "Third Group" of players taking his turn at being linked to every club with a pick in the
range.

Weak endurance and not overly quick... sounds like an inside midfielder to me. Pass.

Gee imagine a jack Macrae but with a great kick!

I would be happy with Rivers if that's the case!!!

What I love about our drafting since the 2012 draft is that we have always drafted players with the most upside.

It can be easy to target specific needs with high pics.

For instance only looking at "fast players" or the "best wingman"

I say just keep doing what your doing dogs.

If Rivers has the best upside at pick 13, then just do it!

I should elaborate - when I said not sure about his speed, I mean I literally do not know how fast or slow he is. His combine results for endurance were above average though (when it was arguably a weakness at the start of the year) so at least he's improved in that respect.

It seems his best work has been playing as a distributor from half back / wing, with beautiful skills and a penetrating kick. Wouldn't be the worst option on the opposite wing to Hunter.

I should also mention that at the combine, he had the 4th best agility score (behind Hayden Young, Elijah Taylor and Thomson Dow) so seems to be quick on his feet. These days, I'd say agility is more important than top speed - just look at how quick someone like Fyfe is despite not having the greatest top speed.

Not overly fussed to be honest who we get there is a bit of diversity in the third group of players say 10 to 26,
plenty of players who fill needs.

Group 1, Rowell, Anderson,

Group 2, Young, D. Stephens, Green (b), Kemp, Robertson, Serong, Flanders, Jackson, Ash,

Group 3, McAsey, Henry (b), Weightman, Bergman, Rivers, Maginnes (b), C. Stephens, Day, Gould, Worrell, D. Williams,
Taylor, Bianco, Mead (b), Sharp,

Group 4

Group 5

Group 6

Note: No Order or numbers mentioned apart from the first two which seems AFL approved, creating another pit of
obligation shame.

I'd personally have Day, C. Stephens, Taylor, Mead and Bianco in the next group down. The others I wouldn't mind spending Pick 13 on, but if we spent it on any of that lot I'd be fairly disappointed.

C. Stephens will not get past Richmond's pick, but the picks can be swapped about which I hate. There will be
a bit of overlap between the groups depending how the teams rate individual players and needs. There are
some nice types in the latter groups too.

Sold. There's out indigenous small forward we wanted <3

Should probably be a rookie pick at best though. I know Eagles were keen on him last year but eventually overlooked. Now that Rioli destroyed his career, they may have another look. Otherwise wouldn't mind even just trading out our Pick 53 for a future pick, then take Tipungwuti right at the back end of the draft. Would be risky senior listing someone as speculative as him, but **** it why not

Hearing Mcasey is a huge bulldogs fan makes me like him 10x more. Liking the sounds of who we are going after, Weightman is still a pick I wouldnt hate but am liking the sound of a Mcasey or Bergman lining up for us to fill long term needs that are harder to fix

There is a chance I trade down into 2 seconds and try to get a small forward and a key defender there.
Ended up doing this. McAsey went 2 picks before the Dogs, got Kozzie Pickett and Sam de Koning at 27 and 28 (from Norf). Last pick is definitely going to be either Ajang Ajang or Oliver Eastland from WA. Probably the latter.

Good picks, fill needs for us

Pickett ahead of Taylor? Interested to know your thoughts behind that.
Taylor will be the better player for me but is a bit of a tweener, not really a midfielder, not really a forward, like most of your smalls. Pickett is just a forward pocket.
Yeah tough choice, but think I'd go Pickett just because of the Taylor homesickness rumours (assuming that's true)
Reasoning above. I didn't even consider him until around pick 22 and he hadn't been taken. Just assumed he'd fall in between 10 and 20. Bergman was also taken the pick before my pair.

Fischer McAsey looms as one of the best key-position players in this year's draft. All pictures: AFL Photos

IT MAKES sense that Fischer McAsey, who has grown up a lifelong Western Bulldogs fan, would idolise Aaron Naughton.
McAsey is a versatile, talented tall prospect who can play as a key position at both ends of the ground. Marking, like Naughton, is McAsey's key attribute.
But it was another Bulldog who first took McAsey's eye as he fell in love with the red, white and blue.

"I was a really passionate fan with the Doggies when I was about five years old, and I'd just write letters to players in my spare time," he told AFL.com.au.

"I wrote one to Matthew Boyd and he wasn't a [really] popular player at the time and he wrote back and gave me a hat and scarf. Ever since then we became pen pals and I met him at a few family days and things, which was nice."
The talented Sandringham Dragons prospect shapes as perhaps the first key-position player picked at next month's NAB AFL Draft.
PHANTOM FORM GUIDE Cal Twomey's October update
But it was the determined midfielder Boyd, an ex-skipper of the club and member of the Dogs' breakthrough 2016 premiership team, who forged a bond with McAsey in his youth.
"He did remember me from the letters so it was a good experience as a young kid," he said.

"The impact you can have on young kids [is huge]. They look up to AFL players and he really inspired me, so I'd like to be an inspiration to young kids if I can get onto an AFL list."
That step is only weeks away.
McAsey ended the season in a moonboot, suffering a stress fracture in his foot and forcing him to miss the Dragons' end to the NAB League season. He was also sidelined for the NAB AFL Draft Combine.

But before that McAsey had established his credentials, starting the year as a key back who could leave his man, cut off forward entries and get things going his side's way.
He showed that in Vic Metro's under-18 carnival, where he was named his side's most valuable player ahead of top fancies Matt Rowell and Noah Anderson after averaging 14.5 disposals (at 74 per cent efficiency) and six marks a game.

But McAsey also shifted forward at stages after the national carnival, showing an appetite for busting packs and throwing himself at the ball.
"My main strengths are my contested marking. If that's as a back, then I like to roll off and intercept," he said.
KEY DATES What's coming up next in the off-season?
"But if it's as a forward then just try to crash packs and create a contest. I pride myself on being clean with my hands.
"As far as my best position, I find I'm a bit more consistent as a defender at this stage but maybe my best footy playing as a forward I can impact games more. It really depends on the club's needs in terms of where they put me."

🌈 after reading that I don't care where he plays or how good he is just get that doggy home :D
