I'm pretty sure the talk that we are into Weightman came on the back of an off-hand comment from Twomey that has been repeated until it's become fact. Not saying it's not the case, as he gets good info and might have been leaking it, but it's nowhere near as solid as people are making out.

There's an expectation that we'll only be taking two live picks at the draft, so I could see 13 and 51 for 16 and 34 being a possibility. Otherwise I'd be hoping we were asking for your two third rounders next year, as both will likely be mid to late.

I thought it came from this board and was purely on a list need basis.

YOU COULD have forgiven Will Gould for having some nerves.
Last month, the 18-year-old played for Glenelg in front of nearly 40,000 fans at Adelaide Oval in the SANFL Grand Final against the Port Adelaide Magpies.
But, aside from some initial flutters running onto the field, Gould settled in quickly and was a key player as the Tigers claimed their first flag in 33 years.

Gould's senior experience is one of the standout attractions for clubs considering the rebounding half-back at next month's NAB AFL Draft. And he, too, believes that he will be ready to play at AFL level as soon as next year begins.
"When you get to an AFL club you have to start all over again and work hard, but being able to play with and against men this year, and AFL-listed boys in the Port and Crows teams in the SANFL, has given me good confidence I can come in and have an impact next year wherever I am," he told AFL.com.au.

Gould's draft position will be one of the most intriguing parts of this year's draft. His qualities are all there in front of you: at 192cm and 106kg, he's a big-bodied player who uses his strength and body to get into position. He has had the frame not to be bullied by older and more experienced opponents this year.
He runs straight, kicks long and direct, and plays with a minimum of fuss, earning comparisons to West Coast captain Shannon Hurn.
But clubs will also be assessing Gould's long-term development and how much growth he has in his game, which will shape if his name is called in the top-30 on draft night.

"Whether it's on talls or smalls, I mix and match here and there. I like to run off half-back and break the lines. I've always been a reasonably big boy so I've always been able to kick a fair way.
"When I've got the ball it's about hitting the hardest kick and sometimes I'll get sprayed for not taking the easiest kick, but for me off half-back it's about how I can help the team score and I love breaking the lines and making that happen."

That was particularly obvious in Gould's performance for South Australia against Vic Country in the under-18 championships, when he had 26 disposals and kicked a late, long goal.
It saw him win back-to-back selection as an under-18 All Australian, as only one of three players in the pool to achieve the feat.

"It's incredible. It was a massive honour and that's the case every time you get to represent your country or your state. To be able to do that first year was a bit of a shock and I didn't expect it at the carnival, but to back it up this year was really pleasing," he said.
"That's what I was focusing on this pre-season: how do I get better? I had to butter up and do what I did last year, but then take it up a notch. That's what I've been able to do this year."

Pick 13: After adding key talls Alex Keath and Josh Bruce during the exchange period, the Dogs could look to the draft to address their need for a small forward. Cody Weightman looms as a consideration. The lively Vic Country goalkicker is good in the air and likes to fly for his marks, but is also clean and crafty at ground level and he has elite foot and finishing skills. Had a strong season at all levels.

Which rumor exactly? I don't think anyone has said anywhere that we ARE interested in him. Just that makes sense that we could pick him up given, 1. He could potentially be there at pick 13, and 2. We need a small forward, and he has the attributes and work ethic that suits our style. So why wouldn't he be in discussions? Predictions shouldn't be confused with rumors, in which there is none at the moment connecting us and Weightman at this point in time.

The only thing I've seen or heard connecting him to any team, was Browne suggesting that Saints and Demons apparently have him high on their lists. So he could potentially go well before us anyway.

That being said, Twomey generally has some solid info or predictions when it comes to the draft, but no mail will be solid until a few days out from the draft.

Forget the combine results. Some of the tests are massively overrated, or don't tell the true picture. Best way to check his speed and mobility is by watching his game tape, and seeing how he moves etc. Can he keep up with his opponents? Can he regain ground when his opponent breaks away? Can he chase down players with the ball? People say he can play on talls and smalls. One would assume that to play on smalls, you'd have some sense of atheltic ability.

Also for those who hammer on about his weight. None of you know what his skin folds are, and whether its just solid muscle which is heavier, or he is simply just fat/in a poor condition. I'd reserve judgements on him for the time being.

At lot of people are talking about it like it's some kind of inside info. Most recently the Brisbane poster asking about pick swaps. My point to him was that I believe it began as a suggestion based on needs like you said, but it has definitely snowballed to the point that people are reporting it as a legit rumour (if that's not a contradictory phrase).

Unfortunately for us in my scenario Port Adelaide did not have a malfunctioning pad either and selected young
McAsey at Pick 12 leaving me with the conundrum of replace Dickson or Suckling. I chose Suckling with my
outside hero in Sharp, but somewhat address the small forward issue with Anthony Scott at Pick 53 as a
mature knowing that we still have the untried Cavarra in the background Champing at the bit.

He’s been playing against men at SANFL level, so I’m less concerned about it than I’d be if he’d only been playing U18s.

Realistically we should get Scott as a rookie. I'd like to look at Sokol as the Dickson replacement with that pick, or possibly Kysaiah Pickett for the small forward option if he slides far enough. Otherwise, Ned Cahill looks like the ideal Dahlhaus-type (small forward with absolutely manic pressure).

Would love a draft that brings in McAsey, Pickett/Cahill, Sokol, Scott (rookie)

Although wouldn't mind finding some outside run somewhere. Vandermeer, Lynch and Cavarra are all playing VFL right now so if one of Vandermeer and Lynch can actually produce something, then it's not such a worry

Sokol and Darling can make a solid 2 and 3 pairing, similar sizes. They do need a tall to replace Kennedy, though Sokol isn't a tall. They have a few good smalls forwards. Defence is solid

I would be surprised if they're not looking at mids. They haven't got any young players coming through to eventually replace their current crop. They've got some good young forwards though so I don't think he'd be a need.

They have absolutely zero promising mids under the age of 23. I'd have thought staying in the draft this year should have been a priority, with Deven Robertson being an ideal target. I can still see them going for Sokol with Pick 48 though. Hoping he's there for our pick, but I can see about 4 or 5 other clubs taking him in the 10 or so picks before ours

West Coast could go a DFA with their poor draft position Menadue or Keays perhaps.

Freo more likely if he stays in WA, as they needs forwards more than the Eagles.

Freo's last pick is 22, before the next one is 58. Unless they reach, Eagles still best position to take him at 46. But you are right, Fremantle do need him more. But reckon he will end up on a team outside WA

Not really worried about weight problems with draftees. Once they get into the AFL system there will be strict training and dietary plans and they’ll be in top shape within no time. Isn’t any Lance Whitnall types around anymore.

Gould’s highlights package looks very good, wouldn’t mind if we grabbed him. A small pressure forward would still be top of my priority list. Would be happy if we just went best available at 13 except if they’re an inside midfielder. Think we’ve still got plenty of holes in the list that can be filled.
