Does anyone else think having only two genuine ruckmen on the list is one too few? I get the need for a small forward, I can see the benefit for another wing (still hoping Richards takes that step) and even the benefit of a young KDP to fill a void in a few years, but I don’t like the idea of only fill in types if we get a couple of injuries in the ruck stocks. I can guess Bevs views but what about you guys? ( please note “guys” used in the strictly gender neutral sense on this occasion)

Bevo doesn't really rate rucks, so we probably have two too many

looks like a few mock draft have hayden young sliding! some have him sliding all the way to Hawthorn. maybe there is some hope he could be at our pick?
Don't get my hopes up like that. I have a sneaking suspicion Melbourne might take him at 3 and the Luke Jackson talk may be a smokescreen.

If only.

Unrelated, Serong and Flanders are on the AFL live coverage, and they've both been doing Movember. Flanders has a pretty decent mo. No sign of anything from Serong. (Also, Flanders keeps calling Serong "Donger", which is deeply Australian.)

English, Schache, Sweet and Trengove makes four POTENTIAL ruckmen on the list, although I must admit to
hating the word POTENTIAL even though it has so much POTENTIAL.
I was a bit unfair putting Trengove in the “fill in” category but I see Schache very much as a break even at best ruckman. I think both Trengove and Schache have already shown us their full potential in the ruck position.
I just rate the ruck position a little higher than Bev. What is known is that Bev and I have one AFL flag between us so who knows who is right. 🥴

I would be happy to use our last pick on a young ruckman but I have no idea what the quality would be at such a late pick. Having said that, if English went down during the season, the backups don't give me much confdence.

Any bets Kemp is there and we pass on him for Bergman/Weightman/Pickett. Odds on to happen I reckon. Just to break all our hearts (and then make us look silly later when whoever we pick ends up twice as good as him).
Still think it’s highly unlikely that Kemp slips to us and if he does make it I’d be pretty confident we’d take him.

To me, the lack of clubs being linked to him can be put down to recruiters keeping very quite to minimise the hype around his name in the hope he slips through. Carlton, Hawks or Port surely snap him up.

I am hoping for 1/ Kemp or 2/ Worrell. With other picks go small forward and if then whatever we didn't get in 1st round, a KPD/ Ruck and a HBF. Just my opinion, I am expecting we dont get either Kemp or Worrell.

Twomey said before that Worrell isn’t invited to the first night.

We will be taking weightman.....going to get an absolute star at our first pick.

I think there are a few games of poker being played and there will be some different outcomes from the consensus views on the first round. I think that for a variety of different reasons we will take someone other than Pickett, Weightman, Kemp or Bergman. Hint: who is the other bolter?

I was happy last year but I remember previously that BigFooty groupthink had me convinced that Naughton was a terrible pick and Kieran Collins was the messiah, so I've decided I'm not going to get too emotional either way before a ball's kicked from now on haha
Me too!! I can vividly remember not being very excited at all about selecting Naughton. After that I’ve decided to just back the club in and wait a few years before worrying about how we went. Whoever we select will be a loved Bulldog and that’s all that matters.
For what it’s worth my order would be:
Kemp
Weightman
Bergman
Pickett
Worrell

But I honestly know very little apart from what I’ve read in here and in the media and a few highlight videos. So I’m sure the recruiters know what they are doing and recent history suggests the Dogs are pretty good at drafting, particularly in the first and second rounds, so I can’t wait to see who we pick up.

No, Sharp.
I was turned off Sharp a bit by the reports that he played for himself more than for the team (or something to that effect). Anyone recall that?

That doesn't sound like a Bevo type of guy. Whether that is in fact the case and whether it bothers Sam Power is another matter.

I like Sharp, but I'd want us to trade to a couple of picks in the 20s if we're going to take him. Him and someone like De Koning, and a late draft small forward like Tyrone Thorne, would be good.

I have got a hunch based on trawling the mock drafts and the draft media that he won't last into the 20's. We will most likely have pick 15. Take him or he is gone in the next few.

Why not the fancied four? Pickett - I think he is just too speculative for Power (remember we went Smith instead of Bonar, e.g.) oops forget the example; Bergman will be gone; Kemp has the knee problem; Weightman is a one position player: FP. We are looking for burners with hoofs who can find the ball in the middle third of the ground. = Sharp. We want to supply our new style forward line that has big marking players like Naughton, Bruce, Schache, English when resting...and JUH.
