Serious question. If you don’t go for needs with late picks when do you think you should go for them? Are you not a fan of the “ best available “ mantra for your first round pick? My view is late picks are a raffle so you try and get lucky with an area of need rather than select someone who would be competing with say Bont, Dunkley or Macrae for a spot.
The above post is pretty much what I've noticed us doing draft wise. Get the guys who are sponges and can push through the difficult stuff, we seem to gotten quite a few good players that way in the past.

My only query is all of the players youve mentioned bar bailey smith (who was a super early pick) were drafted by dalrymple.

I dont know anything though.

Will we have any rookie spots?

If Ben Skol drops to our next pick do we take him?
I think we really need tall backman depth, who's in the mix. I'll be also keen for Ben Kelly Ruck/Tall back with our last pick.

I doubt we’ll go Sokol but the uncertainty around our late pick probably makes it more exciting than our pick 15.
Who ever we pick, it will show us where our list management and coaches feel our list needs improving long term.
Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s another tall key, fwd or back, as you’ve mentioned.

Do we actually need more smalls ?
We were one of the most offensive teams for most of last season with no issues on the scoring front. If we’re “needing” more smalls because that’s what Richmond are doing I think we need to re assess exactly what the smalls are for. Richmond play that type of footy right across the park. They don’t have a lot of naturally gifted players, their style revolves around manic pressure at the ball carrier, the receiver and the following link up. So naturally they’d have a few small fwds in the 22.
We don’t play that way. If we’re wanting a little more pressure up forward, we demand it from the 5-6-7 fwds that line up each game.

Also, who’s spots do these 2-3 smalls take from the following players ?

Bruce
Naughton
Schace
Dale
Lloyd
Dickso
Weightman ( eventually )
Resting mid

Greene
Cavarra
West (possibly)

If we bring in 2-3 small fwds with the intent to play them. Only 3-4 of the above players get games.

I think small player roles up forward are only necessary if that’s the types of fwds you have and they have developed in to very good small fwds. Drafting with the sole purpose to play extra small fwds is flirting with danger imo because a small fwd who’s pressure game is off, doesn’t offer much else. Unless you’re an Eddie Betts or Charlie Cameron type and then I say, good luck randomly picking 2-3 of them up in the draft.
Yeah agree, The last 4 games the doggies averaged 116 points with;
Dale Schache Lloyd
Smith Naughton McLean/Dickson
I really don't want to mess with that fwd cohesiveness, I can't remember the last time the doggies averaged that much.
swap schache with Bruce, and have schache coming off the bench.
I still don't know where Weightman fits yet, besides Dicko who loses their spot?

Where’s Finlay Macrae pinned to go around? Would be pretty rad having brothers at the club, especially if he’s even 50% as good as Jacko.

Obviously we still have other players to draft, but thoughts on this team come R1?

BP: Daniel FB: Keath BP: Wood
HB: JJ CHB: Cordy HB: Crozier
W: Hunter C: Bont W: Richards
HF: Schache CHF: Naughton HF: Lloyd
FP: Dale FF: Bruce FP: Weightman

Ruck: English Dunkley Macrae

Int: B Smith, Mclean, Libba Lipinski

Unlucky: Le Young, Wallis, West, Dickson, Duryea, Suckling

I think an argument could be made for Young > Cordy but I know Bevo and the coaches love Cordy so I don't see him leaving the side minus injury or really bad form.

Weightman I could see being a R1 selection, with the coaches not afraid to give them out (look at Smith last year, even with a limited pre-season). Kind of give Jaidyn Stephenson vibes in terms of a player with speed and marking ability and potential impact from day 1

Anyone else I may have missed or should be in?

I'd prefer to have almost the identical fwd line we had last year with the inclusion of Bruce. I don't want to mess with something that worked so well in the last 6 games.
B Smith or McLean to stay in the fwd line(rotating through the mid).
Duryea or suckling also have to be in based in their last year's form.
Weightman to force his way into the best 22.

Otherwise, Brady Rowles with our later pick should be a good option. Had a sub-3 second 20m sprint, good acceleration and a massive vertical leap (his 98cm at the combine was daylight ahead of Bergman in second with 90cm).

I know Rowles quite well and if he comes to us he’s my boy
