I think in the original article, it mentioned we'll either re-draft them on the primary or rookie list. If the four players aren't taken by any other teams, we could in theory take them with pick 71. If we don't want to use pick 71 on them, I'm not sure how it'll work unless one has a commitment from another team like you mentioned.
We won’t be drafting them back on to the senior list. That’s why we delisted them in the first place to open up draft picks.

They’ll be drafted in the rookie draft.

But my question is how can we redraft 4 players to the rookie list, as well as add Lachie Johnson, when we only have 4 spots available?

We can't, hence Jas's question in the first place - if we are definitely going to take all the players back plus Johnson one will need to be on the senior list.

Archie would be the most logical one to redraft onto the senior list given he has 2 years to run on his contract.

Anyone want to check my math? My current read is:

Primary list - 4 spots:
3 draft picks plus Keidean Coleman

Rookie list A - 3 spots:
Hinge
Lyons
Johnson/Cumberland/Smith

Rookie list B - 1 spot:
Matt Eagles

Possible strategies:
- Bigfooty is wrong about our intentions to take Coleman/Johnson/Cumberland
- We intend to trade our 3rd draft pick backwards to get us more picks next year (or move up) then only draft 2 players plus two existing.
- We expect Smith to be gone.

Hinge will be onto seniors. Replace him with Skinner on the rookie list.

Wow, we expect Smith to leave?

Just completed a pick trade with Pies, out goes our third round this year and next for Pies second next year. Suggests that’s one less kid we will bring in this year.

Edit: you mean Archie Smith this year. I read that as Ely Smith to be gone next year. Apologies, carry on.

Not really, after the Port trade we still had 5 picks worth points in 21, 29, 34, 48 and 71, but could only take 4 picks to the draft. So we would have lost pick 71.

71 should move up the draft a few spots, so might be able to match a bid around pick ~50. Which is around where Cumberland has been rated by draft watchers.

Still have to wait and see. Clubs can trade picks up until 5pm tomorrow.

And we might still make a trade during the draft.

A few clubs now (Collingwood, Hawthorn and Fremantle) have made trades to move around and restock their 2020 picks so they can trade a future first round pick (or any other round) if the opportunity is there.

Seems most teams that have f/s or academy players expected to be high picks are happy to give substantial overs to trade up in the draft and get a pick before they have to match a bid. That may certainly work to our advantage next year, and could be the glass half full perspective of the 'compromised' draft of 2020.

Edit: And according to my squiggle ladder predictor. Ports 1st round pick will be 4 :) and we win the flag of course.

While I agree with your thought process, the potential of drafting them back onto the senior list came from Noble.

“The Club will aim to explore its Academy and father-son options at the upcoming draft, so will require capacity to do so.

“We do intend to recommit the players either on the senior or rookie list following the draft and we will seek permission from the AFL for the players to attend training and meetings as scheduled.

“At his request, we are open to Archie exploring his options as a delisted free agent during this time.”

We simply can't take four new draftees in the National Draft and also retain all four delisted players, while having committed to taking Johnson, without something unexpected happening.

Sorry, I shouldn’t have put it that way.

I’m very curious now to see what we do at the draft.

So far Noble has said we’re potentially interested in drafting both Coleman and Cumberland.

We’re committed to redrafting 4 delisted players.

And Conole has said we’re committed to taking Lachie Johnson in the rookie draft.

I’m starting to wonder if we’ll only make one “live” selection, trade out for future pick/s and later picks for the two academy boys.

If we are going to try and move up on draft night Lachlan Ash would probably be the one we are after.... as Noble/Conole etc have stated numerous times we need run and carry out of the back half, however I'd be tempted by Hayden Young as well, his kicking looks truly elite, dare I say Josh Drummond like :D .

Hi all just wondering whether there is anywhere that lists all of our 2020 draft picks (post these recent pick swaps)?

Haven’t seen either of these boys. But if Young has a Drummond like boot grab 10 of him.

I believe we would have to sell the proverbial farm to get in to the top 5 picks to draft either kid.

It’s highly unlikely either Adelaide or Fremantle trade picks 6, 7 or 8. I don’t believe Carlton would trade pick 9 if either of them got through to Carlton’s pick either.

Honestly I’d see our best bet as Melbourne bidding on Tom Green at pick 3, and us out bidding any other club for pick 4 in a live draft night trade.

And it would probably cost us picks 21, 29 and both future first round picks, with us getting back pick 4, pick 59 and a future third round pick back.

Sydney might be tempted a pick 5, but again it would require a similar overpay to move up. Our two future firsts and pick 21 to start with.

Yer I think both are top 5-6 talents although I have seen a couple of phantoms with one or both of them sliding to the 7-10 range, I suppose it all depends how high the club you are proposing a trade to thinks the Port selection could/would be.
