In the lull before the storm. Isn't it great to zip around the boards, just like us there is plenty of speculation and debate. Lots of arguments on pick swaps and who wins or looses and comments on the prospects from a gun to a lazy bugger. It's kinda like the first time in the new season all clubs are equal - we all have hope the 'next big thing' is coming to change our fortunes or maintain our premiership team. Generally no one really has much of an idea and clubs seems to generally do their own thing which give us another couple of weeks of analysis to argue about.

Schoenberg looks pretty good all things considered. Happy enough despite the loss of a second.

If we take Schoenberg as it sounds like we will, I wonder where we'll look for our two next picks. Will one of Jeremy Sharp or Trent Rivers slip through? What about Trent Bianco? Do we take a punt on Elijah Taylor?

Yes. All Australian and SA MVP. And didn't they win it? Only Robertson won more of it than Schoenburg in the nationals.

Not saying it’s the case, but if our recruiters had Schoenberg ( or anyone else for that matter) inside our top ten, I can see the merit in the trade. If you look at the trade on pick alone it probably doesn’t stack up, but there’s more to it than points.

Also, it’s always amusing to see people get carried away by the draft guru groupthink. Never gets old.

A real surprise packet this year, Schoenberg produced a consistent season, leading to his Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for South Australia at the Under-18 Championships. Playing in a midfield alongside highly touted prospects Dylan Stephens and Jackson Mead, Schoenberg was the most consistent of the lot, earning All-Australian honours and winning the ball more than everyone bar Larke Medallist, Deven Robertson. He can play inside or out, but is more prominent on the inside due to a lower athletic base, which includes a 3.13-second 20m sprint and 20.3 yo-yo test at the National Draft Combine. He does not need the athletic traits for the role he plays, which is often winning the ball in close and getting it out to runners on the outside. In seven games for the Eagles’ Under 18s side, Schoenberg averaged 24.4 disposals, 5.3 marks, 4.7 tackles, 5.9 clearances and 4.1 inside 50s, with a contested possession rate of 49.4 per cent. He is a natural ball winner who plays a simple game to best advantage his team.

Sounds like he is good but the guy who is better according to that is still on the board.

We didn't miss them too much in 2019 playing 5, 3, 3 senior matches respectively.

I'd be very interested to know where we had Deven Robertson or whoever we take if it's not him ranked on our draft board, sometimes they divulge that information post the draft eg, Hugh McCluggage we had at number 1.

No but that's more a reflection on their ineffectiveness last season. We still don't have anyone who can provide at least part of what McCluggage does.

"seems more likely to play as a second or third tall at the next level"
Not sure it makes sense to include this in the profile a player we traded up for. We're not exactly struggling for players who can do that.
