You know they’re two I like.

Rantall set a new record for the 2km time trial, running 5:50. Stephens ran it in 6:17.

Both were equal top in the yo-yo test with a 21.8.

So the both have the endurance. And Rantall has pace on the outside, so can definitely run up and down a wing all day.

Both need to work on their kicking.

Noah Cumberland was top 5 for the 20 metre sprint and top 10 in the agility test.

Miles Bergman was tops in the jumping tests. Good leap on him, which shows in games.

The two biggest disappointments for me at the combine testing were Luke Jackson and Will Gould.

For an undersized ruck, Jackson needed to show a good leap. I expected much better, especially someone coming from a basketball background.

Gould tested poorly, but his in game play suggests otherwise.

I’m not sure if we’ll draft any back flanker types, after bringing in Ah Chee and Birchall.

This might seem a little odd, but I would consider trading back a bit from 16, if we could get two picks in the 20’s.

I’d look at Adelaide’s two picks in the 20’s. Currently 23 and 28. I definitely would want to get picks in front of Sydney & Essendon.

Ideally we package 16 with picks 48 and
52. But I’d be ok with 16 and 34, because I know we’d have to get that third pick in before Essendon to have a chance of drafting Rantall.

Cooper Stephens at 21.
Miles Bergman at 23.
Jay Rantall at 28.
Keidean Coleman matched bid or drafted with 55. (can match a bid from pick 41 with a negligible deficit).

I like it.
BUT feel Bergman could be gone if we trade out pick 16 back to 23, seems to be a lot of buzz around him. If we maintain pick 16 I wouldnt be surprised if we took him with that pick.
Stephens at 21 would be a great get, is a good fit. Ticks a lot of boxes for us.

The other one I would like at 16 is Will Day, skinny, but quick rebounding defender, a few draft experts have compared him with Mason Redman from the Bombers, from a baseball background, and his cousin Sam plays at Suns.

A roar phantom draft has us picking up jeremy sharp and miles bergman with our first 2 picks. I would be happy with those two. Seems to be some handy talent in the 15 -30 range, so however the club decides to go i think we should get a cpl of good players.

Id like, if possible, to bundle up 34 and one or two of our third rounders for another one in the 20's. Use the last 3rd round pick on coleman and the 4th rnder upgrading the big O. If we get 3 kids in the 15-30 range, plus coleman its a pretty good haul.

What's happening with Kobe Tozer?
I think I read somewhere he will potentially play for Allies as a 19yr old in 2020 because of injuries, with the possibility of being drafted for 2021 season. Like what happened with Answerth. But I could be wrong about this too. Also a Lions NEAFL top-up in 2020.

We're meant to be into 2 academy kids accoring to Noble. We could take Noah Cumberland before Coleman depending on bids and our preferences and although Coleman is a chance I doubt it's guaranteed we'll take him, going on what has happened in previous years.

I would be flabbergasted if we didn't take Keidean Coleman in the draft, if we don't I'm a bad judge of footy talent...... which is eminently possible... probably why I don't have a job in list management and am just some nuffie waffling on an AFL forum.

I listened to the Noble interview and he was pretty complimentary about Keidean but he was also answering a question about academy prospects and he mentioned first Coleman, then Cumberland as one who was invited to the National combine. They're certainly both prospects but depending on who is around at that pick or what we do to get pick upgrades etc, and how early bids come, if they do, I think it can all change pretty quickly. Noble was clear that we go in with a number of options for each pick.

Don't really know much about Cumberland, always thought he was a decent player in a lower comp but wouldn't make it higher. What kinds of attributes do you think he has that would see him make it at AFL level? Thouht he was a 3rd tall imo?

Cumberland, he’s what ~184cm.

Just my viewing of the academy series and U18 champs, he was played between HBF, wing and HFF.

He likes to take the play on and backs his speed. Some times he runs to far, when he should have looked to hand pass or kick to a team mate.

He’s a very good tackler, and aggressive when trying to lock the ball in the forward 50.

He still looks raw, but so did many of the other kids at the U18 Champs.

He’s got the athletic tools and frame to be a player, just needs to work on his skills and decision making.

He tested well at the combine, placing top 10 in both speed and agility.

I know he’s ranked in the top 40 by the chief editor of AFL draft central.

I’d still take Coleman ahead of Cumberland, but come draft night, they should be rated together.

It’s funny how people can can listen to the same interview but come away with different takes.

What I took from the interview.

Noble said again we’re trying to move up in the draft, combining our first two picks, and mentioned picks 10 and 12.

Mentioned we have 4 or 5 players we’ve looked at.

Also mentioned we’re looking at moving picks for future picks and specifically mentioned our later second round pick.

When asked about if we had any academy kids, Noble said there are two we’re keen on taking.

Spoke first about Keidean Coleman, mentioned that he played the year in the NEAFL, that he’s a 19 year old, but we still have rights to him through our academy.

Then mentioned Noah Cumberland, and that he had an invite to National Draft Combine.

Noble, earlier in the interview also mentioned there are some more list movements to come. The way he said it made me think we’ll move some players to the rookie list.

Ok so my take on the interview, and in light of today’s re-signings.

We’re still trying to move up, and move out some picks for future picks. Nothing earth shattering there.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we only looked at taking 3 picks to the draft. One early pick, and two late picks in the 50’s for Coleman and Cumberland. Or we take 4 picks if we’re unable to trade up, 16, 21 and two late picks in the 50’s.

As I’ve said for much of the year, it’s not a deep draft, and once you’re out past pick 30/35, there’s not much separating the talent. And If you’re a team after a small forward or flanker/wing, Coleman and Cumberland (along with Budarick and Rosas for Gold Coast) are better athletes than many of the Victorian kids, and don’t have the red flags of the WA kids.

Simply put, I don’t see a lot of value in our pick 34, not for the type of players we’d be after, and who might be left on board.

Our pick 34 could be pushed back 3 or 4 spots by the time it came for this pick, and there’s every chance the last of the half decent mids (Jay Rantall, Sam Philp and Thomson Dow) in this range are already gone. Especially with Sydney, Essendon and North each holding two picks just before our pick 34. Leaving a lot of second and third tall type defenders, really raw and skinny KPF’s and rucks, and lots of flankers and small forwards.

I don't think he explictly said we were going to take them or were keen on taking them. Just an answer to a question on who our academy prospects were. Don't think it would be in our interests to say this far out that we're definitely taking those two guys. Especially when the picks we have are liable to change. I guess I paid more weight to the question than you did. I thought the answer about Cumberland implied that other clubs were interested in him, which is a given because of a National Combine invite. Anyway, love your work, thanks for all your thoughts on the draft.

I guess we really won’t have much of an idea until list lodgement at the end of the month, where we see how many spots we take to the draft, and what pick trades the club manages.

I’m pretty confident we’ll take Coleman, and probably Cumberland.

With Keays delisted, and Bundy yet to re-sign, we really don’t have any genuine small forward depth on the list, who aren’t in the best 22. Cameron, McCarthy and Zorko.

Good pickup i am expecting at least one pick to be a small forward. Got the feeling christenson going on rookie list somehow. And id expect two more being moved to rookie list. We only have 1 senior list spot. Thoughts?

Pretty much the same.

Will be interesting to see what the club does between now and the draft.

Personally, I’d like to see the club move up in the draft order to pick Will Gould with our first pick. Might only have to move up to the Bulldogs pick to draft Gould, and we shouldn’t have to give up our first two picks to move up 3 spots.

But I would be hesitant to make such a trade before the draft, as I’m not keen on a few of the players, in terms of list fit for us, who are rated by draft watchers in the 10 to 16 range.

Makes it difficult for Noble and co. to trade out a few of the picks without a good grasp of which kids the teams ahead of us are targeting. But I’m sure they have a far greater grasp of this than I do.

On a related topic.

Next years the list squeeze is looking more brutal than this year already.

Especially for those players only signing one year extensions.

It’s really make or break next year for some of the younger players.

Cox, Allison, Wooller, Ely Smith and Hinge all out of contract.

Steph Martin and Birchall are the only two potential retirees.
