Will be interesting in general to see who we take with 16 and 21 if we dont trade up. I wouldnt even rule out trying to get up a few spots with 1 pick and trading 21 into next year. We dont need a lot of picks this year, and we seem to like the top 12ish talents. Reckon we would be happy to get around 12 or 13 and simply take the slider.

Next years draft not great, but wouldnt be the worst thing to have an extra pick for trading at worst.

Id be happy if we were to grab a Jackson and Gould for example, both potential sliders but unlikely. Think we are at that point in our drafting (especially when we wont have top 10 draft picks playing finals) where we simply take the slider/best available talent. Not really target needs.

Noble on SEN talked about how trading draft picks allows clubs to really target needs now with their early picks.

Just reading over the last few pages theres maybe a dozen young fellas mentioned that people think may be available at our first 2 picks. Good agruments have been made for each. Drawbacks have been observed for some. Jackson, gould, bergman, sharp, bianco, rantnall, stephens, day, im sure theres others ive missed, every one of them could suit our club for one reason or another. Surely 2 of that dozen will be around at our two first picks, any 2 would do me if the club saw fit. I think our draft team will be quite happy with the variety of talent about to choose from.

Not sure trading 34 to West Coast for a future 2nd round pick would've been a great deal anyway. With the addition of Kelly, hard to see them not finishing top 4. Obviously the deal could be for a future 2nd plus something, but in any case, can't see it being overly appealing.

I'd be happy enough trading 34 to Essendon for a future 2nd though. Currently they have 31, 33 & then 66. Reckon there's a greater chance than not that Daniher leaves next year, if not both him & Orazio. 31, 33 & 34 aren't bad picks to have in your hand this year knowing what might happen next trade period. Gives you a year to get some development into them too.

Edit: I guess this is Essendon though, they'll push for pick 21 for a future second rounder

Rantall isn’t viewed as a top 30 pick by most of the professional draft watchers (i.e those who get paid to write about the draft). He’s just one of my personal favourites as I’m not keen on a lot of the draft prospects generally spoken about in the 15 to 25 range.

As for the rest of your comment.

I believe we would be lucky to have two of the mentioned kids available at our first two picks. Possibly Sharp is still on board when our second pick rolls around.

As the draft order currently stands, I would expect both our first two picks to each slide back after bids on Fremantle’s Liam Henry, and Hawthorn’s Finn Maginness are made before our pick 16.

And if GWS manage to trade up to pick 3, then both our first two picks will be pushed back another spot.

So, more than likely our first pick will be pick 19, and our second pick will be 24.

Another name who hasn’t been mentioned for a while is Trent Rivers, a general defender/inside midfielder. Rivers should be rated with Cooper Stephens as the two big inside mids in discussion at our first pick.

Personally I love him and hope we take him just think it is very unlikely unless he slides to our third pick (possible but unlikely to go down that far).
There is also prevailing thinking (which I think is wrong but exists anyway) that the man-childs do not have as much potential improvement over the less developed kids.
Plus our recruiting staff have been talking about midfielders and running (fast) defenders.
I know he is a much better runner than his 106 kg would suggest but he does not fit such an immediate need.
So even if he is available for our first two picks (and I think he will be) I think it is highly unlikely we will pick him.
No inside info - I have just been a keen draft watcher for many years and I think this is how it will pan out.
I could be wrong but lets wait and see.

Jeremy Sharp is so outside he runs around the boundary with umpire. If they can’t find their own ball then it’s highly likely they don’t succeed so if he can’t do it at a junior level he most probably won’t do it at AFL level.

If we get rid of Cuts because we want tougher players capable of inside and outside play we won't pick Sharp either.

I haven’t read/heard a discussion on Gould’s skin folds.

Where did read/hear that?

Haven’t even heard of any recruiters discussing Gould and his combine Physio results publicly.

IF Gould is overweight it also reflects very poorly on how he spent this year given I’m fairly certain he graduated last year. No excuse not to be in top condition coming into the draft.

Although it would provide a bit of upside if he had a Rockliff type pre-season.

Draft Central will be updated on Thursday with all player profiles, and next Monday the last power rankings will come out.

I expect Gould’s measurements will be updated then.

On side note, most of the players details are from the beginning of seasons measurements at the preseason testing held by Rookie Me.

I believe Twomey’s last Power Rankings include measurements from the end of season Draft Combine.

Nice to see Trent Bianco up to 178cm and 73kg. That’s the same height as Rory Laird and catching up to Laird’s weight.
