I wonder if Trent Rivers would be a flight risk, since he's a diehard Eagles fan. Yes most players we draft support other teams, but WA boys seem to want to go home a fair bit.

Other than Yeo no other player of significance has improved their career by going back to WA. So if Rivers is in our calculations I'd have no hesitation in drafting him. The going back is a risk with every player drafted from another state.

You would think most or the SA and WA boys would realise they’re more likely to be drafted interstate than be drafted to one of two home teams.

Unless the kid starts talking in some pretty direct language about wanting to stay home, or you start hearing rumours from people in the know, draft the kid and back the club in.

I agree with Briztoon - Adelaide is such an oppressive environment for players and coaches and history shows they have their own "flight risk" issues (especially Adelaide for some reason).

The way I look at things at the moment, if we’re still keen on drafting both Coleman and Cumberland, we’re over capitalised at the moment.

Ideally pick 48 and a pick in the 50’s should be enough for both academy kids.

Picks 29 and 34 might get us picks 22 and 58 from Fremantle if they receive a bid on Henry after their second pick at 10.

I also believe it will be hard to trade back in to the first round using picks 21 and 29.

But we might have the draft capital to get pick 6 off GWS if we’re willing to include Ports’ 2020 pick in a trade, and they’re unable to trade up from pick 6.

Doesn't really benefit GWS much in this draft as 21 and 29 would be used up on a matching bid at 5, with a residual pick generated around 72. They might benefit from the first round swap in 2020 slightly, though it's hard to predict. As you suggest it will be hard to trade up, if a bid comes at 5, GWS much more likely to trade with clubs that have higher picks than us like Geelong or Gold Coast.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we really offer up something big to land a pick in the top 10 . How bout 21 , 29 and our future first ( in 14-18) for a pick in 6-10 range . Still leaves us with pick 34 and ports first rounder next year which likely to be more value then ours anyway .

I don’t see that as being an incentive enough for a team to trade out of the top 10 or top 12.

In the 2020 draft, Gold Coast have a PP at pick 11. So every team that makes the finals is pushed back one spot.

I think both Brad Crouch and Joe Daniher are restricted free agents, and if either leave, should generate first round compensation, and likelihood is neither team makes finals next year.

And then there is likely to be at least 3 kids bid on in the first 15 picks of next years draft.

So even without any free agency compensation, pick 14 is likely to pushed out to pick 18.

My hope is we can package 29 and 34 together and trade with Fremantle for picks 22 and 58 on draft night, if they receive a bid for Henry after their second pick.

It’s probably only a marginal win for Fremantle, who might also want an extra 3rd round pick in next years draft, as they have a few nga kids next year.

They already have the points with 6 to match a bid at 3. Why trade 6 away if they’re only going to get points back, what’s in it for GWS? To trade 6 they would presumably be looking for a significant pick that is not used up, or a significant pick in 2020 draft. It’s the quality of what they gain that will trigger a trade, otherwise why bother?

Very happy with the pick trade done with Port yesterday, I have a feeling that we will attempt to trade up on draft night using either Port or our 1st next year as part of the deal.... if a player we really like is still on the board eg. Lachlan Ash, Brodie Kemp, Hayden Young, Luke Jackson, Sam Flanders, I'm counting out the likes of Noah Anderson, Matt Rowell and Tom Green who are highly likely to be in the top 3-4.

I'd be just as happy if we take 21, 29, 34 and 48 to the draft and get 2 of Will Gould (there is talk he could be a big slider), Miles Bergman, Will Day, Jay Rantall, Kysaiah Pickett, Cooper Stephens, Trent Rivers, Trent Bianco, Elijah Taylor, Dylan Williams and Jack Mahony(this guy is grossly under rated IMO). We then use our later selections for Noah Cumberland and Keidean Coleman. Pick 34 could easily be a live pick in the open pool for us as well.

Is there a club next year with multiple F/S and NGA kids they need picks for? Could that Port pick be trade bait to trade higher into the first round this year if one of the club's need more first round picks next year?

GWS trading pick 6 and a future first to the crows for pick 4. I'd assume there would be something else coming back to GWS also once it's finalised.
