Will depend what offers Port get really. There will be a few clubs having a look and wondering what the likes of Port and Us are looking at doing and trying to figure out how the next 8 picks are gonna fall. Entirely depends how we rated a few players. If there is a player there we thought was maybe top 12, someone clearly ahead of the rest, i wouldn't rule out us trying to move to Port's spot to make it happen either. The problem will be not who Port might take, but if someone gives them a good trade offer, they will probably be after the player we want.

Going to be really interesting to see how it unfolds, and how it happens i think will show who clubs rated where.

FWIW, considering our position on players strengths and "weapons", Robertson does seem like the type of player we would love.

Rivers with our first pick if port dont take him. Just fits our needs in defence best from those left i think. Gould if port take rivers. I think he is more than capable of taking over birchall or adams role in the team. Either player is a good long term fit.

I expect rantall or sharp would be still about at our second pick. Happy with either.

What happens with our third pick is anyones guess. I think we trade it for a future and a later pick for cumberland.

If we walk out with rivers/gould, rantall/sharp, coleman, cumberland and a future 2nd i would call it a successful draft.

What works in our favour is that Port can't slide back too far or they risk someone bidding on Mead and wiping out their pick. Trading with us and Adelaide are really their only options, because going back any further means Adelaide are a good chance to bid on a SA local boy. If they trade with Adelaide they can make a gentleman's agreement with them not to bid on Mead, but would Adelaide want Robertson?

Dodongo would trade our 2 second rounders to Port to get Robertson. Get their 2 picks in the 60s back. If they dont like that we add our 2020 2nd and get their 2020 3rd as well or something. Jl

If Kangaroos really want pick 23 as a rumour doing the rounds, they give us Pick 28 and next years second and we give them our pick in the 50s.

We stay in the 2nd round next year, still have two picks in the 60s for 2 players, and move up to guarantee us the other player we want at 28.

If kicking is the only problem with this Robertson guy then it shouldn't be a problem at all. Bailey had a pretty bad kicking action when drafted to us and now he is pretty good.

Dodongo pretty much agrees. With our 2 second rounders (which wont be enough unless we add a future pick), they can get another top player as well as Mead and still get something bonus next year.

We make the trade happen and then trade out 23 to get back what we traded.

Dodongo is thinking both Cumberland and Coleman won't be bid on so Dodongo can see one going to the PSD and us picking the other with one of our last 2 picks

If we get both then I don't care what we do with the rest of the draft, it's an automatic A+ for me. Remains to be seen if the brains trust rates them though.

Yep, I stand corrected, I'd be for getting up the board and getting Rivers and Robertson.

Also the knock on Robertson is his kicking, everything else is said to be elite/A grade, that was the knock on James Worpel and the reason he slid on draft night, that pick turned out to be outstanding for the Hawks, reigning Best and Fairest.

At this point, I’d look to take the best available at 23 then move one of our following two picks into next year. Freo hold Melbournes 2020 second rounder and may be keen to grab some of the WA talent still around.

The difference between Worpel and Robertson.

Worpel is very one paced, has big turning circle, and lacks agility.

Robertson has genuine speed for an inside mid, and good agility.

However Worpel could actually kick. His “problem” was he usually just threw the ball on his boot and boot it forward without looking. He didn’t look to see if he had the time to kick to a team mate. Late in the NAB league he played a couple of games where actually took that extra second or two and was surprisingly efficient.


I’m not sure exactly what the problem is with Robertson’s kicking. Whether it’s just rushed disposal due to the position he’s playing, or whether he actually has a problem hitting a target by foot.

I will note, there was a big discussion after the U18 champs about Robertson’s kicking efficiency. It mostly centred on comparing Robertson and Caleb Serong.

Serong had a slightly poorer kicking efficiency than Robertson, but didn’t receive any negative comments regarding his poor kicking.

It’s interesting that Fremantle took Serong ahead of Robertson.

Worpel was a beast at U18’s. Hawthorn actually trimmed him down a little.

There might be 2 or 3 centimetres difference in height.
