Future pick?
Split this years first pick into two later first rounders. One for Bing, the other for Hill. Add next year's first for Bing and steak knives in Sinclair or Webster. Done and done. Do it, Satan!

Why would we need steak knives when giving them 2 first round picks?
I'd be wanting a future 2nd swap included, or Jack Martin.

All in all it doesn't make sense this year. We're probably not going to get a low enough pick to trade down with anymore. If we've committed to Hill then Bing is out of reach unless Stuv is used in the Kelly trade..

He could only benefit from having a supportive coach like Ratts

Trying to be realistic in order to make it happen this year, ScrappyDoo. I doubt it will happen as well, but if we are any hope, we have to give more than most on here expect we have to. Here goes. All criticism gratefully accepted.

B. King - 1st this year, first next year. Sinclair as steak knives.

B. Hill - the other first we get for splitting this year's pick. Acres as well. 3rd rounder back.

Constable and Geelong's first (16ish) for Stuv .

16 for Jack Martin and GCS third rounder pick 37.

Stephen Hill, Todd Goldstein and Adam Tomlinson, all FA.

Prepare for abuse. Harley Bennell (subject to medical and psych. assessment) as a rookie!

Need 10 spots to accommodate 3 compulsory draft picks and the others we've brought in.

Steven, Acres, Sinclair traded out.
Newnes RFA.
Retired - Longer, Armitage, Brown, McCartin, Roberton.

Delisted - Lewis, Rice and Rowe (rookie)

NGA - Biggy.
Rookie Upgrades - Golden Jazzhands, Jonathon "Bacchus" Marsh.

White and Phillips in trouble. Savage and Webster as trade bait.

(Ducks for cover)

Best 22

Steele Carlisle Wilkie
Clark Battle Tomlinson
Billings Ross B. Hill
Martin Bruce Hind
Membrey Winx Lonie

Roma Hannabery Gresham

Bing, Bytel, Dunstan, Constable
Emerg. Goldstein, Bennell, S.Hill, Coffield
Enjoy !!!!!

I really can't see any sense in getting Ben King in yet. You would get him to wait otherwise we are trading this years first and next years first for him and he's not a priority and limits our ability to do anything else. It would require us to trade out players just to get back into the draft. Would anyone want to give up one of our untouchables for sentimental reasons? We can't go into this draft with no picks in the first 2 rounds and no first next year. The AFL would shut it down.

Having him play one more year in GC will give us time to assess his actual worth as well. What if he's only an okay player?

OMG how special was his performance the other day , it makes me sad to be an Aussie watching him

I like him, he's theatre. I was over tennis but I love watching him. He's nucking futs.

Yep. For all of those reasons.
I do think that the idea of paying 2 firsts is actually starting to ware a bit thin too. There's little doubt GC will ask for it but the reality is they've got no leverage to force our hand.
Like l said, we should get change from a deal like that.

The thing is they have the option of holding him to his contract. If we want him early we pony up. If we wait until he's up for re-signing they get put on the back foot. they have little room to move with him able to demand to go back to Victoria or go through the preseason draft. They won't go that far they would settle for a single FRDP. Especially if he has a less that impressive year which second years often have the habit of doing.

My favourite part about this is Steele in the back pocket

My favourite part about this is some people still believe players play in one set position, usually where they're named.

Thing is, in the modern game, players are named in positions for the benefit of fans who understand the game in a simple, amachronistic way. It makes them feel comfortable and helps them understand a very complex game.

In truth most players play a variety of roles over the course of a game. The single role specialist is going the way of the Dodo.

In the absence of Geary, Steele is our best lock down player, be that in the midfield, or on a dangerous forward. Unbelievably for some, he has played a lock down role on some forwards this year.

I'm sorry I couldn't find a failed rover, with a big gut, sharp elbows and dodgy knees to fill the role of the traditional back pocket. If Steele isn't playing a pure midfield role, it's a sure sign we have made real progress in that area.

If we need to, we could always swing him into the midfield. We're allowed to, you know. What a time to be alive!

All true but the way they name the teams is just a bit of fun sometimes I think. It looks like some of them have had a bit of fun putting players in obviously incorrect starting positions.

Wasn’t haven’t a go Drake! I’m all for mixing it up and trying something different. Too much science and role play these days.
I think Steele’s best role is as a tagger. He should be able to play both roles. Steve Baker was capable as a mid tagger or genuine back pocket.

Just over 12 months ago Melbourne were playing for a spot in the Grand Final. Now after a year of absolute medocrity it looks likely they will be rewarded with one of the best two players in the draft.
I know it's the draft system but it just does feel right to me.

I'm all for Gold Coast getting a priority pick just so Melbourne can't get Anderson.

Same. I noticed Goodwin kaiboshing the PP in his press conference by saying there are other alternatives. Stuff them. I'm all in. #pp4gc

Yeah he does. Think he has a boy and girl that are in their teens. Not interested in sport though.. his younger one is just finishing Auskick this year.
How did he do. Do you think he’s going to be mainly inside or have a bit of that outside pace I reckon we’ll be crying out for in 2040?

Understand that Snake. No dramas. I wasn't actually directing it at you. Plugger66 posted something similar about modern roles and how selected positions are obsolete.

I read my post again and I can see why you'd think I was having a go. Lost in translation. Apologies if offence was taken. None meant.

Modern selection is obsolete. Just name 22 blokes and be done with it. Apart frim a dinosaur like Brown, or a gun specialist like Roma, the rest are all negotiable.

Broad categories like midfield, forward or defender is about as close to specialities we come these days. Even then, it's open to change. Swingmen? Carlisle forward, anyone?😀

Really , well im sure you would love it if your kids behaved like that , still think its theatre ? He is a spoilt little sh1t and would be banned for a year if i had any say

he's not my kid but he is at least he has made a sport that had got boring entertaining again. I love that Roger has achieved what he has an Rapha is still up but they are kind of dull. He's like an 80s American teen movie, he comes in with a ****-rock sound track and a kamikaze headband and turns the stuffy country club w***ers world upside down.

Boy oh boy,

Ben King will come home to Victoria. That much is obvious.

If we don’t get him another Victorian club will. And despite his love of family and Saints, it’s likely he will stay at that Victorian club long term.

There will be one chance to get him and we should do whatever we can to do so. Yes I get all the talk of getting mids, but these Kings are special. And the 2 of them in the same team would be amazing.

There was only 1 Lockett

There was only 1 Carey

There was only 1 Nick Riewoldt.

But there’s 2 of these buggers

2 of them!!!!

Would we get away with giving them our first pick (5 or 6)? I would.
