51 - Biggie
82 - VFL ruck
100 - Wilkie

How are Goodard, Ajang & Strnadica from the WAFL StCicatriz ?? Worth a late punt as younger rucks?

I have checked the National Draft rules and although we must use three selections, they can include rookie upgrades.
Last I checked, only one rookie upgrade counts towards National Draft selections (although they keep changing the rules). I imagine the recruiting team is hoping for highest rated player at 51 (they'll claim that player was in our top 20 or 30), a post-56 bid on Biggy so we can nab him free (197 point discount for academy means any player late enough in the draft just costs a pick at the end) and Wilkie upgrade for player three.

I think it's very important to pick up a young Ruckman this year (whether it be with pick 51 or in the Rookie draft), to maximise the worth of having Ryder on the list. Having Ryder as a 2nd ruck on field, as well as mentoring both Marshall, and a backup ruck for the future, sets us up well for when Ryder retires.

Would be nice if we had a pick in the 30s so we could speculate about the draft. Would have loved to see libba get another crack at getting some future stars

Good time for Roughy to join the recruiting team...not! 🤣

Indicitive draft order

Picks 4, 55 (GC), 71 (WC), 76

What will be our needs going into the draft?

After taking Max King at pick 4 in 2018, we will most likely target a midfielder with our first pick in 2019.

Our recruiters have targeted inside mids over the last two drafts with Hunter Clark and Jack Bytel, so whilst I think we will most likely pick the best available mid, we would really be looking at someone with clean skills and hurt factor on the outside.
I don't think it's realistic going in to the draft with a strategy given our position. I think we'll take best player available. We have had a poor record historically with early draft picks, so it's not a bad thing we're entering late in the draft. Hopefully we can unearth the next Callum Wilkie.

First two are up and coming rucks. Last is a key forward.

Ajang shows some amazing signs but then goes really quiet. Far too inconsistent. Has some mongrel in him though.

Goddard doesn't get enough of the ball but wins a lot of the hit outs.

Ajang would be my preference over Goddard. Given his athletic ability and he's more consistent around the ground.

Worth a punt!

My preference would be Greg Clark. Big body winger.

Also mitch georgiades has been somewhat hidden by the WAFC. Hes a big forward. Him and mayo worked well together as Colts.

I'm hoping we get in early on mitch then take Clark. Rookie list biggie and ajang

No more forwards. No more backmen. Midfielders. Good ones.

I wouldnt be shocked if we traded back into this draft with next years first.

Watch this space with GWS.

If they can't get Melbourne or Adelaide to shift back to 6 I would be very tempted to give them our 2020 1st for pick 6 back this year + a later pick next year.

They are dreading a bid on Green from the Swans at 5 so anything they can do to move out of that space will be a bonus.

GC - Rowell
GC - Anderson
Melb - Flanders
Adel - Ash
GWS - Green (Match Syd bid)
Syd - Young
Freo - Henry (Match Stk bid)
Stk - Kemp

I lost track of how our pucks ended up next year ? Last year we were pretty active in the back end of the draft in swapping picks to get more picks in late or move up I’d say we’d look to do that again

Giants will just use their points at the end draft selections to match bid , they have Green in the bag.

Really think St Kilda have done well , most of the talent out West good draft to avoid

Don’t get the Bulldogs attitude to 13 either to be honest Melbourne have clear interest in their man at
earlier pick.

I like that idea.
Now we can discuss who we will take with our ( imaginary ) pick 6 again.

If someone bids on Green with pick 5 , they have him in the bag yes. But they are forced to use pick 6 on him.'
As LWP suggested, if we traded our next years pick with them they still get him but without pick 6.

Scenario 1.
As it stands.

Swans bid on Green. GWS match with pick 6. GWS get Green.
Next GWS pick 40: GWS draft some donkey.

LWP's cunning plan.

Swans bid on Green. GWS match with pick 40. GWS get Green. GWS get pick 18 next year from StKilda.

Yep they will match it but if the Swans bid on Green at 5 then the Giants have to use pick 6 which they absolutely do not want to do. They want to draft a gun with 6 and use later picks to match the bid.

The Crows should bite given they can get one of the local SA kids at 6 but they might really was Ash/Flanders as well.

Given our good record with GWS trades I think we can talk to them about getting something done to benefit both teams.

I’ll repeat what I said, we can’t trade our first for next year unless we get one back somehow.

Assuming Rowell, Anderson, Ash and Flanders are gone - Kemp please and thank you :) I wouldn't be upset with Serong either.
