So Jack Martin gets to nominate not only the terms of his contract (reported $3m over five years) but also the loadings (apparently asking for $1m in the first year of the contract).

Putting aside that he was only ever going to get to Carlton anyway (GC won't re-draft, Melb not interested); how is designing your own contract (after presumably checking with Carlton about how their cap looks each year) not draft tampering?

The same way Luke Ball did?

Because if any club wants to pick you up and pay it they can. Melbourne could easily pick Martin up and rescructure payments to other players so that he fits in. Im sure Gawn, Jones etc would all push their payments back 12 months if they bought into Martin helping them win a flag.

Now, being unavailable for medical screenings and interviews for select clubs, ala Luke Ball...

Fair comment. I think a club restructuring their TPP this late in the piece is probably quite an ask given all the players would have made their own financial commitments for next year already, but then I suppose you're right if it was a Top 50 league player then the club would find a way. The total contract is fine; I just find the ability to seriously frontload it quite bemusing.

#55 Flynn Perez
Bendigo Pioneers/Vic Country | Outside Midfielder
25/08/2001 | 188cm | 81kg

One of the players hardest to rate this year, Perez has missed his entire top-age season after injuring his knee late last year at a Vic Country camp. From what he showed as a bottom-ager, Perez has some neat outside traits, and class when in close. He moves well and is a creator for his team, it is just about getting some consistency in both his disposal and game. At 188cm, Perez is a nice height for a midfielder, and when adding in his athleticism, the Bendigo Pioneers’ midfielder is unlikely to be forgotten by an AFL club come November

From last week's +40 rankings this guy was the only one interesting around our pick.
Yet another injury case, but at least he's done his rehab and can play in 2020.
I think as with Bytel it's better odds to take the talent and expect 18yo kids to heal well within a professional system.

Perez would be a great get at 51 imo. I know people are less keen on injured players but I'd rather take an injured but talented kid than a healthy fringe player at best.

Related to Nakia Cockatoo, hopefully injuries aren’t in the genes. Would be a good get IMO.

I like the sound of Charlie Comben. 199cm and can play Ruck/Forward.

I think it’s almost guaranteed we select a Ruckman with our first or second pick given we only have 2 on our list (not including Alabakis).

Knightmare has him going in the range 20-40

Charlie Comben 20-40 - 200cm aggressive ruck, really good mark, also wins clearances and is useful around the ground esp forw (injury-plagued year) but was dominant against Vic Metro's Nick Bryan, when he was in the ruck which he shared with Bigoa Nyuon and Josh Smith, when he went forw he was also dominant

84 kg and injury prone, i'm not sure he'd be someone we'd want to play in the AFL for a couple of years.
If we want backup for Marshall and Ryder in 2020, i think we really need to look for a mature ager.

Seeing all these great images of our boys up in the NT engaging with the local kids just makes it all the harder to cop that we have no Academy involvement up there.

I think with the game in Darwin we might be working on expanding our zone to a few spots up there.

doesn't matter, at the moment gold coast has all of NT for their academy

Anyone heard any rumours on who we might be keen on in the draft?

Also how many list spots do we currently have?

See who slides, then draft Masten.

Pass on the rest of the picks for supplemental spots that we can fill in the preseason.
