I just said he's like Brown. I think his role is probably that one.

Yep if we hadn't got Howard, we wouldn't have had a prospective full back for the future.
But for the selectors they'll be choosing between one of those two each week.

So with Abbott coming in that leaves 3 spots.

2 if we take Wilkie.

I would have liked us to grab Partington for nothing but that is sounding unlikely now.

He can't be picked up until the draft, he's not a DFA because he was delisted last year.

I just listened to Twomey and Shifter doing their mock draft from a week ago.

From their picks were looking at our pick 51 moving up 5-6 spots through FS and academy bids, and it looks like 51 is the exact sweetest pick to reap the maximum benefit.

Of course it can all change with live trading, but as the order stands we'd pretty much have pick 45/46 on draft night.

Since the Tigs have picks 38, 39, 40, 56, 75 and 77,
I suspect they may want to shift some of that into next year and we could target p38 for 51 and a measly future 4th swap.

10-12 places for almost nothing would be an awesome outcome, and get us into genuine slider territory.

I'd just love to see us be creative make something of our crappy draft positions this year and next.

Libba and his gang have done really well post Trout, and we should give him something to work with instead of being passive.
Though l don't think for a second that our Satan-Gags-Gubby combo will sit on their hands.
Picks 24 and 38 for me this year please..

Had a crack to work out picks likely to get eaten by bidding:

GWS (Tom Green) - Most likely scenario is Melbourne doesn't bid but someone in the top 10 after GWS's pick 4 will. There goes picks 40, 59 & 60 (plus deficit for next year).

St Kilda now has picks 50, 79 & 97

Freo (Liam Henry) - Similar to GWS, Freo will most likely burn all their picks after their top 10's. Goodbye 48, 57 & 66 (adjusted for GWS's bid).

St Kilda now has 49, 76 & 94

Hawks (Finn Maginness) - Estimate a bid around say 20, meaning 715 points to match. No more 41 (412 points) or 48 (302), 54 becomes 55 to get the last few points.

St Kilda now has 47, 74 & 92

Port (Jackson Mead) - And let's estimate a 25 bid (559 points). No more adjusted 48 (302) or 51 (259). These picks were originally 52 and 55. This is where the earlier bids increase the value of these bundled later picks, it's a clever way to game the system.

St Kilda now has 47, 72 & 90.

Not sure about other potential bids. Wonder how right this'll be?

It's my understanding that clubs can't game the system in this way. all picks in the draft are given a set value at the start of the draft, and these values don't change.

If I'm Melbourne I am 100% bidding on Green at 3. Clubs have to stand up and start making GWS pay fair price for their never ending leg ups from City Hall.

Risk is GWS decide not to match and Melbourne get stuck with a player type they already have a surplus of. It's a nice idea but I don't see them doing it.

Melbourne trading 3 to Sydney for 5 and change (and a gentleman's agreement about who actually goes at 3), now that's a move

Wouldn't surprise me if we target a taller utility given the loss of acres and white
You mean someone who could start on the bench, could play back or forward and help out in the ruck depending on the match ups.

I reckon Wilkie could fill that role quite easily. He actually started life as a forward.

How do you suppose we end up with 24 and 38?
