Agreed. I just look at Jackson's numbers and feel like he is going to be Grundy 2.0

He looked great playing for WA but we don't need another premium ruck, we need mids.

Reading Cal Twomey's latest on the draftees - https://www.afl.com.au/news/2019-09-20/cal-twomeys-2019-phantom-form-guide-september-update

If we keep pick 5 (trading a future 1st for Hill) I want Sam Flanders. As a goal kicking mid I think he would compliment Dunstan and Steele working inside while Hill and Billings work out. He would rotate with Gresham in a 70/30 split mid/forward.

If we end up with 12 from the Dogs for Bruce then Luke Jackson please. Marshall is elite but we wont have much underneath. Jackson could be just as good, if not better (seriously LOOK at those numbers!), which would give us some insane weapons rotating ruck/forward. Worst case is he develops and we trade him back home for an improved price.

If Jack Steven gets us pick 22ish then Miles Bergman or Trent Rivers. Both of these guys sound like exactly what we need: Midfield talent that is ready to play. Either of them would work in with the pieces we have currently.

If we have 25ish from Freo in the Hill deal then Bergman, Rivers, Jeremy Sharp or Cooper Stephens. Again, we need midfield talent that can come in and generate some excitement. Stephens would be a risk but why not take it?
Not saying Luke Jackson won’t make it but his numbers are from colts. And the colts is a fair bit weaker than the NAB league. If they were WAFL numbers then absolutely. Jack Mayo kicked 50 goals in the colts last year and only got a look in due to a change in drafting process.

We need to go for midfielders who tick these boxes (preferably in order):
Elite decision making/football IQ
Accumulation
Disposal
Athleticism/size
Consistency
Scoreboard impact
Not too much to ask is it?

Obviously its all opinion based but I worried that everyone from 12-20 is a flanker...

Maybe we hope Kemp slides to 12 or grab Bianco a little high? He does read very nicely and we need skills so probably fits the bill. I just worry about us lining up in a final with an army of midfield short people...

When Jackson played for WA in the carnival he looked like Grundy, jumped over everyone and could rove his own ball. It's much harder at AFL level and with not much competition as far as athletic rucks he got to put on a show. He could be amazing but he could be a bust. Tall players are really hard to rate early.

I just don't think we need him with Marshall so would go for mid even time. Or Ash who I just want.

Of the players winning the most hitouts per game this season gone.

Witts : pick 67 2011 - Effective 3rd season
Grundy : Pick 18 2012 - Effective 3rd season
Gawn : Pick 34 2009 - Effective 6th season
Simpson : Pick 34 2007 - Effective maybe 7th season
Goldstein : Pick 37 2006 - Effective 4th or 5th season
O'Brian : 2014 Rookie. - Effective 4th season
Mumford : 2007 Rookie. - Effective 2nd season
Kreuzer : Pick 1 2007 . - Effective maybe 2nd season
Sandilands : 2001 rookie - Maybe 1st or 2nd, but took a long time to become elite.
Phillips : 2010 rookie. - Effective 4th season.
Naitenui : Pick 2 2008 - Effective 2nd season
Marshall : 2016 rookie - Effective 3rd season
McEvoy : 2007 pick 13 - Effective 4th season.
-----------------
First round rucks. - made it to 100 games.
2005: Ryder, Clark Bailey. 2/3
2006: Gumbleton, Leuenberger, Hampson 1/3
2007: Kreuzer , McEvoy, Lobbe 3/3 ( but hard to get excited about Lobbe reaching his 100th).
2008: Naitenui , Vickery 2/2
2009 : --
2010 : Gorringe, 0/1
2011 : Longer 0/1
2012: Grundy 1/1
2013: Boyd 0/1
2014: Wright 1/1 ( on track ).
2015: McKay
2016: English.

I think first round picks are way too risky, and we need to build our 22 before we draft for our succession plan.

Briggs is far better ruckman at the Giants ...

Can we get him though? He'd be the perfect type for us, an understudy kid for Marshall.

Very suprised Giants have not played him this year , anyone on the edge is gettable at Giants.

The price is the issue , still think for all the posturing Bell does at Fremantle wouldn’t be suprised that Giants / Saints / Dockers
split picks to the mutual benefit of all see if sanity prevails.

With Mummy looking older and more beaten up he's probably eyeing off next year. That's the exact type I'd like sitting under Marshall, high potential, won't freak out if he plays some VFL and got 10 years ahead of him.

What would be the minimum Freo would take for Hill? Acres and a teens pick? My mate who has contacts including at Freo reckons they won't play ball unless they get pick 5.

That is Peter Bell language, worked well last year , chest beating Dodo style.
Pick 5 is not going to help them said it countless times they need to get multiple picks , for the 1st time in long time great opportunity
to pick up local talent ....

Honestly don’t care if we gave 5 to them for Brad Hill ..because if they do draft Victorian kids , they won’t stay and they only have 1 pick.

watching chargers v rangers on kayo, great game so far

people saying this draft is weak.. I dont know where bianco, mcrae, yougal (spelling?) hayden, lorrie, and a few others are predicted to go but definitely some late (i.e. not first round) quality in there

I really like Bianco, think he'd be a great pick up if we ended up with an early second and he was still there.

I can just see him somehow ending up at Melbourne and they end up with this wicked ranga duo of Rowell and Oliver

Amazing how a team that was capable of playing in a prelim last season is going to get pick 2 (or 3) this year.

Pretty much like a club done for doping still managing to get pick 1.

Yet here we are with premature retirements through no fault of our own due to concussion ( that’s 4 if Paddy goes, including Koby ) unforeseen issues like heart conditions and mental health and we get zip, nada....basically bugger all 😠

No wonder I sound like a depressive.

Don't think about it too much or you'll lose your mind. Still waiting for the scales to tip.
