Ottavi watch. One of my favourite smokies in this year's draft is Joel Ottavi from Williamstown, who is playing in today's VFL GF. A late pick, back up ruckman behind RoMa and Ryder. 201 cm, 95 kg. Three years in the VFL at Essendon and Willy.

Like RoMa, he is mobile, has strong hands and is a straight kick for goal. Reminds me of the young RoMa. Handy when resting up forward. Still has a way to go as far as pure ruckwork goes. Up against Chol today, so a good test against up and coming quality.

Intereseted in impressions of those watching today's game.

I wonder how many picks we’ll take into this years draft.

Zero looking likely at this stage if Biggy comes from the academy and all our trades get done. Probably eat into next year as well. We only have 5 and 55.

I don't like the idea of having none next year again though!

Can see during the VFL GF why we were so keen of Riley Collier-Dawkins in last years draft, looks the goods.
He’ll be a star
His profile is ideal for the modern midfielder and doesn’t grow on trees.
That being said if we pushed for the deal to pick swap and selected him it may have jeopardised us getting hill this year or even bing next year

Actually prefer 3 Jones to join all the Jacks this year .

Jones ....from the Swans

Jones ...mature ruck from Freo

& Dylan Jones. Williamstown CYMS .. suprised not on AFL list now.

Credit to Tigers ...their development 1st Class and recruiting for depth 1st Class.

Remember they also had Jono Marsh in their VFL team till we pinched him .

3 would be about the number including p75 for Biggy.
Taking Marsh and Mayo via SPP effectively adds them to this years intake, making it 5.

Some posters are now talking about an NGA KPF for us next year too (any info guys??) meaning well have taken both Kings, Biggy and this NGA kid in space of 2 years plus Clav and Austin the year before. You can see why they're willing to trade Juicy and Snake whilst they can.

Have we upgraded Marshall and Wilkie yet?

Wilkie is still a rookie I believe.
(Also according to the club website).
Marshall definitely on the main list.

Have a feeling he was upgraded. He signed a two-year extension and that would be strange for a rookie to do, considering they need permission for the third year. Could be wrong though.

Joyce was upgraded too. So maybe with Nyuon, we’ve got our three draft picks right there.

Marshall was done last year l thought.
Wilkie hasn't had the opportunity yet, though since White and Bubbles are still listed you'd think Wilkie is just as likely to stay a rookie for another season.
It might be more complex, involving contract lengths and values precluding remaining a rookie. I dunno.

Funny thing is, that without retirees for the next few years we'll struggle to churn the list over. I can see Wilkie, Marsh and Mayo elevations constituting some of our compulsory picks next year, whilst doing a hard churn of the rookie list for 2 years.
We need to stop burning future picks at some point. Hopefully after next year. .

When they first brought in future trading, i immediately thought, "all the dumb clubs will go all out trading as many picks as they can, until they never have much of a draft any more. Looks like we are like the dumb ones"

Anyone else find it frustrating that we can't exactly focus on potential players around our pick given pick 5 is likely out the door with no real idea of what will come back yet? Last year we knew we were keeping pick 4 and could speculate between king, rozee, smith and caldwell.

longer, newnes, armitage, brown, austin, phillips, mckenzie, rowe, young, rice, white, mccartin...

not saying all of them, but there will be plenty of candidates

I'm assuming that
longer, newnes, armitage, brown, rowe, mccartin and Pierce are gone this year.

That leaves austin, phillips, young, rice, white for next year to be delisted rather than retired and after that, Gears, MacKenzie and Snake.
But all could likely continue under Ratts, so there's no guaranteed retirements from that bunch at all.

On that thought. Is it worth us taking the risk and trading out next years 1st Rounder for a first rounder this year plus a second rounder?
Risky but might help get some of those deals done through trade and would give us a young talent now. An inside mid like Robertson or Schoenberg?
Thinking maybe Bulldogs Pick 12 who need points for next years Academy kid or Brisbane/GWS/WCE who have multiple late first/early seconds.

FFS we do NOT have the other King yet, and we won't have him until we get him, and a million things can go wrong to stop us getting him.

If Bruce leaves and we don't get the Bulldogs first , i'll be pissy and abusive about our club for the next two years.
Yeah i'd love Robertson. There have just been so many reasons for so many years that we aren't in the relevant part of the draft.

I suspect that's the right strategy though, if you're rebuilding you should bring forward your picks by trading out future picks so that you can get a mass of raw talent in ASAP, while if you're already on top it's better to trade in future picks because you'll have more list spots to fill in future. The only problem is our rebuild is interminable.

It would be interesting to see who we ended up with if we land pick 12 from the Dogs.

Robertson is rated around that mark by a lot of experts, but you'd expect Freo to reach for him if they have 2 top ten picks.

Stephens is another but I wouldn't expect him to get past Port.

We are said to be very keen on Cody Weightman who Twomey has tanked at 12, but I don't think we can afford to not take a mid.

Can Kemp slide that far after his knee injury?

there's trades too.. bruce, sinclair, lonie, long, dunstan, ross, etc could all find new homes. Not saying I want them to, just saying we're not gonna have any trouble turning the list over. If the eagles and the tigers can keep their list turning over, I'm sure we'll manage
