He and Lonie are the exact reason we went and got Butler with elite pace and provides great forward pressure.

Gresham plays like a selfish U16 and as I said, similarly to Lonie provides poor forward pressure. If he ever gets himself truly fit and stops 'show boating' he could be elite, but he has a long way to go IMO.

If he's kicking 35 goals who bloody cares about forward pressure.
Goals are literally the game. If you lose the grand final, you don't get a medal for providing good forward pressure.
This year Gresham was second behind Kent for goal assists per game ( not counting Rowe ).
Others who assisted goals as much were Young, Newnes and Acres.

I don't buy the crap about Lonie either. I think you are talking about Lonie three seasons ago, certainly not Lonie at the start of season 2019.
None of our forwards did decent crumbing this year. Butler won't fix that.
Unless our talls mark everything that comes in, we're going to be stuck trying to turn over the ball on the way back out again.

Max senior list size is 40. We have 37 at the moment. We will use a pick to upgrade Wilkie, and seemingly use the other two picks on kids.

Does that means we can have 2 rookies as well?

I think so. Max list size (Senior & Rookie) is 45 from memory. So we either max out the senior list at 45 and put 5 on the rookie list, or we leave one or two short on the senior list (say 38 or 39) and add extra to the rookie list.

Will Biggy be seniors or rookie?

Does he qualify? Not sure of the rules. I would’ve thought either primary list or category A rookie.
I think if no one else nominates him in the national draft we can pick him up as a cat b rookie but I am unsure

Category B rookie I believe.

It depends if another team bid on him in the draft. If so we have to match it with our next pick (s).
I'm not sure if he can clearly be taken as Cat B.

----------------------------------------------

Through 2015, the AFL developed a plan to enable all AFL clubs to establish similar academies, known as 'Next Generation Academies', with each club allocated a zone and juniors qualifying residentially. This was designed to give all clubs an incentive to invest directly in junior development, particularly focussing on diverse and indigenous backgrounds. As with the northern clubs' academies, a club will have the ability to draft its academy's graduates with a discounted draft pick, but will not have exclusive recruitment rights. In February 2016, the AFL announced the allocation of Victorian, Tasmanian and Northern Territorian zones amongst the ten Victorian clubs; unlike historical zones, not all clubs were given both a metropolitan and a country zone, with most clubs receiving either one or the other. [15]. North Melbourne was designated Tasmania at large.

------------------------------------------------
Cat B is for players taken outside the normal recruitment system for AFL players.
Biggy has played Junior and under 18's AFL so i doubt that he would be Cat B.

Rookie pick
surely can't be any worse than Longer and younger than Ryder

It's all smiles as Australia’s tallest man takes life in his stride
People staring, asking endless questions, making comments and selfie requests. At 223 centimetres, Kewal Shiels good-naturedly rises above it all.

As the tallest man in Australia moves through the indoor shopping centre, a funny thing happens. It's not so much that everyone there (and I do mean every single person) freezes a moment to gawp, or glance askance, or nudge a friend with a sneaky elbow. No, it's the uniform facial expression they all wear. It's the smiles. Smiles as far the eye can see. Or rather, smiles as far as his eyes can see.
Kewal Shiels has held the mantle of tallest man in this country since the Australian Book of Records was first printed in 2017.

The oversized existence of Kewal Shiels slices through the shoppers this busy weekday morning like the prow of a container ship, sending a sparkling ripple of toothy happiness across the bustling current of everyday commerce. People can't help themselves. As he lumbers among them they stand utterly dumbstruck, beaming, caught in a moment of dopey, reflexive awe. Shiels is an utterly likeable, softly spoken, kind and trustworthy 30-year-old former car salesman, motor-sport watcher and Kanye West fan, who lives alone in Pascoe Vale South in Melbourne's inner-suburban north-west, which is to say that he is mostly unremarkable.
Except, of course, for the fact he is seven foot three (223 centimetres) tall. Put another way, Shiels is roughly the same height as a female Asian elephant, and so people tend to grin whenever he is near them, lighting up with a kind of sweet, surprised delight, flickering en masse, like fireflies in a darkened field. "I do notice that," he says, as the spellbound crowd continues sneaking peeks. "When the stares get frustrating – and they do, sometimes – I try to remind myself of that. I try to take the attention with the spirit in which it's intended."
Shiels has been doing so with good grace all his life, because he knows no other life. He was never really allowed to be normal. When he was one, he looked like a terrible two. When he was two, he could pass for four. By the time he was in grade 6, he was more than six feet tall. That came with challenges, mostly around expectations.

Pretty sure Marsh was signed on again as a rookie.

That would give us 4 senior list spots and 0 rookie spots assuming Wilkie stays on rookie list.

Steele, Battle and Paton are the only real concerns from that long list of OOC's.
Our list is still thin by the looks of that, but the potential is still there at least..

Is he though? 4 or 5 years older, injury and form problems, bad disposer etc. I'd rather have kept Newnes if we're going after Masten...

If we are bringing Masten it's more for the off field aspects I think. He gets a year or 2 on the list to push players like Paton and Phillips to be better than they are while bringing in the coaching/IP of a top shelf footy club.

Yes, l expect Jake to be on the trade table is all.

I think you may be right.
What’s he got...a one year contract?
Like Bruce, he’s going to be our vehicle to improve our draft hand next year I think. And hopefully with Howard, Robbo, Wilkie etc we may not miss him as much.
Hope he has a great season to increase his trade value.

Not to mention Joyce, whose just earned a two year contract, and Marsh.
