Wow.
I did not realise they traded 2018 #6 out for May.
And in the process lost access to Ben King.
Not even hindsight would suggest that’s going to be prove to be a great decision by them.

Yep turned Jesse Hogan into a broken down defender. A year after Lever breaking down.

They made the age old mistake of believing they were really close having played finals. How many clubs have fallen for that trap over the journey? We did during the Lyon era attempting to top up rather than going to the draft.

Flynn Perez or Chris Bryan for me @ 51

Depends if we want to go for a young ruckman or a state leaguer later on.

Think the only realistic outcome is for a Bytel like injury ravaged top age year player to still be around at that 50 mark, otherwise the quality is just not good enough and you might as well go mature age.

Partington would be the one for me if this was the case.

Few clubs may regret passing up Bing, that pick went from Freo, to Port, to Brisbane, back to Freo, to Melbourne and finally to Gold Coast.

Did you mean Nick Bryan the Ruckman.

DRAFT ANALYSIS: "A developing ruck who has terrific athleticism and a high ceiling, Bryan just needs to build his consistency and have more of a presence around the ground to further build his game."

ONE player who was the talk of the AFL Draft crop at the start of the year was Nick Bryan. The Oakleigh Chargers’ ruck burst onto the scene after being not in draft contention as a bottom-ager, but through hard work and his testing results, was suddenly in the eyes of most clubs. Through no fault of his own other than being a phenomenal athlete, Bryan was talked up by some draft watchers as a first round pick. He blitzed the 20-metre sprint in the NAB League Fitness Testing Day, clocking up a 2.91-second 20-metre sprint, which for a 202cm player is remarkable, and showed in patches what he is capable of as a bottom-ager in limited games. As the season went on, and the Under-18 National Championships showed, Bryan still has a long way to go despite his obvious athleticism and upside. In the NAB League finals series, Bryan pieced together a number of strong performances on the big stage, and showed recruiters just what he could do once again, but as a whole, he still has plenty of development – and more importantly time – on his side.

STRENGTHS:

Ruck work
Vertical leap
Speed
Upside
Skill

IMPROVEMENTS:

Consistency
Scoreboard impact
Contested marking

Would be keen on picking up one senior player as a DFA:

- Archie Smith
- Luke Partington
- Mitch Hibberd

Then hopefully grab one of the Sandy boys at either Byrnes or Chirgwin.

Hopefully pick Biggy up late or as a Rookie?

If King goes down or gets tired we have zero options. We didn't want to commit to Bruce for a long time but were happy to have him for now, that says we will probably pick up a Rowe type at some point. Brown is still a very good player and young enough to give us 3 to 4 seasons. He's very mobile like Bruce and can run end to end. He's a tall utility/ forward who in April had 25 disposals, three goals and 11 marks against Brisbane and was their 3rd best player behind a 7 goal Tippa and a 35 possession game from Merrett. Also got a Brownlow vote that day. Had 23 disposals, 8 marks and 4 goals against Adelaide in Adelaide.

He was a bit of a talisman for them, when he was on they were too. I wanted him when the Bombers got him, he was playing at Sandy and looked way better than most of our listed guys. Bombers got him as a drug top up when they cheated and he was kept on ever since.

I've read on the Essendon board, that he's ok against average opposition, but as soon as he hits an A-grader he's totally out of his depth.
Options that we have for Full Back // CHB Rucks and Tall Forwards.
Note that it is not completely necessary to have 3 tall forwards, nor is it necessary to have two rucks.

Carlisle // Battle // Howard all playing at once Brown and Joyce backup. Wilkie, Roberton, Austen, Marsh based on opposition.

Forward line possibilities.

King//Ryder//Membrey
and in the case of King going down or being rested.
Ryder//Battle//Membrey
Ryder//Howard//Membrey
Ryder//Carlisle //Membrey
then verging on desperation.
Ryder Marsh Membrey
Ryder Joyce Membrey
Ryder Mayo Membrey
or we play with 2 talls, Parker isn't exactly short.

I thought brown can't make above his head?

I don't know if it's worth wasting a list spot. I think we'll have plenty of other options. Joyce or N. Brown would be just as good options

We've a 1st round pick up our sleeves still.
There's every chance of shenanigans still to come.

Hey lads, I’m picking for the Saints in a phantom draft leave some realistic options here. Would really appreciate it. I think we should go ruck, Jamison or Midfielder, Garcia.

If we could get Ryan Byrnes it would be ideal. He's like Jack Steven in his game style and Dragons captain.

Might be available according to the latest Draft Central power ratings (whatever they are!!!)

#59 Ryan Byrnes
Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro | Balanced Midfielder
03/05/2001 | 182cm | 84kg

Mr Consistent, Sandringham’s fearless captain has been as reliable as just about anyone in the NAB League this season. Byrnes can play inside or out, wins the ball out of a stoppage and has a trademark five-step burst to create separation from his opponent and send the ball inside 50 to leading teammates. His kicking could certainly sharpen up, but he can use either foot which makes him more of an asset, and while he is shorter compared to some inside midfielders, he has the readymade frame to compete at senior level. Almost missed out on a bottom-age year at Sandringham and has been a workhorse to put himself in a position where he could be drafted. Just a no-fuss footballer who leads by actions and will be a popular player at a club should he be selected.

He could be a Worpol type bargain to me. Might not be quite as high impact early but I like him.

He looks good. Liking what I’m reading and imagine the midfield of him, Bytel, and Steele.

2020 First round and 51 for Brodie Kemp and 2020 3rd

Would we be happy about this?

I believe we'd need a 2020 2nd also.

Unfortunately if you look at points value we're in a tight bind.

We may be able to get a late 1st off a top 4 team but there's a good consensus in the media that Kemp won't last that long.

Out: 2020 1st, 51, 2020 4th
In: late 1st, 2020 late 2nd, 2020 late 3rd

Gets us roughly pick 17 this year.

So if Kemp slides that far then great, but then who'd sell us that pick instead of just taking him themselves....

Even a future 1st swap with the likes of Richmond would only elevate our p51 into the 2nd round so it's hardly worth it.
Or, we could trade both our 2020 4ths and elevate p51 to about p36. Again probably not worth it.

The way next years draft is being talked about, top end picks and 4th round picks are the cards you want to have.
All in all, we'd best prepare for a boring draft event this year. ECO now..

No way. i don’t think we can trade the future first without a second coming back anyway?

we still a need a future first to trade for Bing. Just cause he signed a contract extension means nothing. He had the opportunity to shore up his short term future so he took it. He could suffer a career ending injury next year and then what? StK walk away and he’s up the creek.
we’ll still make a big play for him next year.

Hope you are right but I think it will
be a case of RFA for ben king. We will get him for 2027+. Which is still ok. He'll be 26 turning 27 in his prime.

Sorry was Nick Bryan, think Chris Bryan was that weird Pies player who ended up an NFL punter off the top of my head!
Thanks for the further info :)

Mitch Brown has been playing footy all his life - won’t get better in fact will start to slow down, which isn’t as bad for a ruckman but not a forward. Joyce is young been playing for only a couple of years and for my eye improved out of sight from his first game.
Still no hope of getting a game. Who would you prefer murray or joyce?

It's more that he just isn't a KPF doesn't win or halve enough aerial contests. It's hard to justify playing a guy with who is below average/poor at tackling and chasing if he isn't helping bring the ball to ground.

I’d rather have Dmac playing CHF than Mitch Brown
