Let’s hope we draft a good player tonight. One with at least one elite skill even if it isn’t kicking. Should drive more members. Lots of love to that player or two

As you said jones gives us something else. That is one simple reason you don’t limit your recruiting to skilled players otherwise let’s redraft LJ conners and sippos.
Obviously from a blank canvas you don't just limit yourselves to skilled players. But from where our list is currently placed
I think we are high on hard workers but very low on finesse! Don't think it would hurt us to try to target specific types!

Siposs is an argument to have another day. But i'm still of the belief he was very poorly managed by Richo and could have and
Should have made it! Under another Coach he would have blossomed! He is not alone though in that regard! And neither is Richo!

Siposs had one elite skill. Kicking. He like most draftees just wasn’t good enough as shown by no other interest even after time at Willy. Obviously if 2 players are classed as level we pick the better kick but they most likely won’t solve the kicking to the forwards as the chance of them playing any decent footy at that pick number Is low.

Siposs himself admits he was lazy and didn't work hard enough to improve what he needed to (plus hated contact).

Doesnt matter who is coaching them if the player themselves doesn't have the drive to get the best out of themselves.

He didn't blossom under Watters either, despite Watters giving him a lot of faith and senior opportunities.

Maybe so, but he was still young and under the right tutelage he could easily have developed other areas of his game
If he was backed in! Don't know that he hated contact! But he is one of many footballers over the journey that through either lack
Of opportunity, Injury or simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time can determine their fate as a success or not!

I have seen way too many star studded footballers over the years, not make it for a variety of reasons!
And others you wouldn't look at twice become elite! Yes inner determination and selfdrive are very important, and ultimately crucial!
Sliding doors moments in all facets of life can also be of great consequence!

We seem to have. Wilkie should be good. Not sure about the rest though. Still one is great. Probably means our chances are less this year based on draft history

It shouldn't be based on our draft history, since those responsible for our previous drafting aren't in charge.

He could haul them out of the air pretty well too.

So maybe our recruiters actually DO know a thing or two when deciding it didn’t matter about having earlier picks in this draft.

in this draft yes, which is a very good indicator the draft isnt very good. they have to take a minimum number of picks to the draft. AFL rules.

if that was the case in every draft, then they'd continually trade down for more picks. every year.

how many good players were in the 2012 draft's first round? compared to say 2013?

of course there will be good players, but how many is the question and if we will find ones better than Brad Hill, Ryder, Howard, Jones.

There were still a few good players in the 2012 first round. But yes, to go back to statistics, 2012 could be considered an outlier.

I just think that, with so many kids there, there will be good and maybe even great players in every draft and the chances of drafting a good one are much higher in the first round. Especially the top 10.

I've been so tuned out of the draft this year. Has honestly saved me hours on the phantom draft threads. Happy for us to keep trading out of the first round for this reason alone.
I'm with you on that. Been stress free in the lead up, don't really care who we pick. Only want is Biggy but he will probably go very late or even undrafted which means we can nab him for nothing.

At the later picks my guess is that your more sturdy players are most likely to come good as opposed to finesse players. By sturdy I mean tough and physically capable. Dane Swan types. Don't care if he butchers it but needs to get his hands on it a lot.
Anyone feel if we will be picking more on needs or more on best available? First pick a mature pick?
The ruck was the only need imo but is now sorted with Abbott.

I cant see us going for a mature aged player. Gags has mentioned multiple times that there aren't many good ones left after so many have been taken recently, so it sounds like he isn't keen on anyone available.

Hopefully we don't take any more talls and stick to midfielders.

First choice for Pick 51 pick should be a young midfielder from a public school or a mature age player like Partington if he is still available..

So no-one has any idea who we are looking at?

ITKs any whispers?
Fox Sport predicts

PICK 51: ST KILDA – NICK BRYAN

Clubs:
Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro

Position: Ruck

Size: 202cm, 87kg

PICK 64: ST KILDA – DARCY CHIRGWIN

Clubs:
Sandringham Dragons/Vic Country

Position: Inside Midfielder

Size: 191cm, 80kg

I’m no expert when it comes to drafting as I pay no attention to the underage kids . But I’m happy with who we have recruited in the last few years and I just hope we can find another diamond in the rough . At worse we can get some players who do show potential even if they never make it . If you look at our list right now we have very few duds , yes there are some young kids with questions hanging over their heads but there always are . Fingers crossed we find another Wilkie or Parker or even Paton or Langlands who are all showing potential. There have been lots of players picked up late who went on to have solid careers .

I am hoping we look strongly at the two W.A rucks being Callum Jamieson and Zak Patterson. Both had to play second fiddle to Luke Jackson yet both have posted really strong numbers in various games throughout the year.

I think these two will be flying under the radar with West Coast and Freo trying to get them on the cheap.
