If Ben King does ask to leave next year (I'd be gutted) at least we / he has raised his value .
Everyone remembers those videos with Dew and King's family saying we were aiming to pay him 8-9 games to feel out the level.
To his credit he showed significant improvement within the season and ended up playing 14 games.
Kicked 12 goals in his last 6 games and kicked multiple goals in 3 of those 6 games.
Also 5 goal assists in that time.
For a young key forward that is outstanding.

I'd offer him a contract for sure.
Easy delist for Schoenfeld / Heron / Wigg that aren't going to contribute at AFL level and don't bring anything else to the side.
At least Betts brings some of that veteran leadership and experience.

I reckon he can achieve even a bigger boost in his second year judging by how he finished the year.
King - 7 possessions, 3.4 marks, 1.2 goals / game, 0.4 GA / game
Daniher - 11.3 possessions, 5.3 marks, 1.3 goals / game, 0.5 GA / game

No way we’d lose Ben for anything less than a top 10, more likely top 5 pick. Maybe even a player as well. Talented KPFs are the most prized commodity in football. They’re like Toyota’s they hold their value very well.
Ben King with a full career at the GC is an absolute must.
He will kick 6 goals in our first GF win and be Norm Smith medalist.

It seems to me that Betts is the kind of guy that would take this kind of thing seriously.
If he is being de-listed by Adelaide and does come to us, I would hope he would be doing this for the right reasons and not asking for a huge pay check.
Who wouldn't want to move from Adelaide to the GC in a mentoring role for a young guy.
Would love for him, Burgoyne and Harbrow be a link for indigenous boys from the Darwin and North Queensland regions.
We could really look to re-market ourselves as a club that is appealing for indigenous up and comers. Probably unfair generalisation but they may like the relative anonymity and quieter aspect of the coast compared with a footy mad town.
Ah Chee and Martin leaving doesn't exactly help that..

Honestly, with what he has shown.. I'd want more than a top 5 pick.
People are calling for 2 first round picks for Joe Daniher even despite his chronic debilitating medical condition.
King has shown similar skills .. admittedly at a young age.
If he can play majority of next year, remain injury free and kick 1.5 goals / game. That is a star in the making and asking price should be through the roof - clearly above his draft position.

It would have to be a top 5 pick and either another top 10 pick or a good player. The guy went at pick 5 last year and has shown enough in the last year to suggest he’s not close to being a bust. To trade him for what you paid would be insane.
He really wants to be involved in the development /mentoring of Rankine. Big time.

Of course the asking price is going to start very high. What we end up getting depends on the market. If there’s more than one club after him, which there probably will be, then we will be well compensated. What I’m getting at is we won’t lose out like Ah Chee and Martin.
FWIW I can see him signing on for at least a couple of more years if we start to show improvement next year. These new rumours of his manager enquiring about a possible trade already are just that. Caddy has been our only draftee since our inception I can think of who jumped after his first contract. All have signed on for at least a couple of more years.

King loves it up here. His parents are also very impressed with what moving away from home has done for his maturity. His parents are very impressed with the Club.
