Gold Coast will spend the next few days attempting to convince Shaun Burgoyne and his family that he should play for the Suns next year.

Foxfooty.com.au understands the four-time premiership player is on the Gold Coast finding out what life would be like in Queensland if he moved his family there for 2020 and beyond.

He will tour the club’s facilities, scope out potential schools for his kids and also even delve into real estate options.

more SEN clickbait.
Carlton was in contention for the spoon last year and they were nowhere near the position of needing assistance like we were, they just had a shit coaching setup. We actually needed it but like 2 kids, what you give one, you must give the other so the AFLs hands were tied.
This year they can do as they need without stirring the Melbourne storm in a teacup.

Agree, I found the lions / Suns pick swap as an argument not to give us the PP laughable

1 year playing 2 years coaching nothing wrong with that.

If we can land him early it will set us up for a huge trade period
I believe it would be the other way around. Wants to reach 400 games.

2 playing 1 coaching is fair IMO. The oldest player for sure, however, I feel we made a mistake not hitting up Brent Harvey when he retired, who at that time was the oldest player in the AFL.

Age is just a number, especially if he matches this years output of 18 Games.

Read somewhere that Burgoyne has done his hammies 3 times in the last 18 months. Hope his intended role is mainly coaching and not playing.
You could argue 12-14 games is all we need out of him highly targeted for winnable matches
He's been remarkably robust throughout his career though which given his early issues is quite amazing

That's nothing. Pretty sure Darcy Moore/Jordan De Goey has done three combined in the last 6 months lol I wouldn't be worried about this. He is probably careful with his body and knows how to treat such incidents.

He would want 400 and is on 376 so far.
Think more along the lines of 30 odd games in the next 2 years, then full time off-field.

Not the end of the world given the instant credibility upgrade.

And tbh, if it shuts up some of the thoughtless 'culture no good' and 'need more mature players' media takes, I am on board.
If it well researched and the journo has travelled to Qld I am OK (maybe once a year), but the pot shots from Melbourne are getting old.

The WCE draft swap was atrocious in the moment

The Lachie Weller trade was an abomination before it happened.

Although it looks bad now no one was saying that the Lions pick swap was bad at the time.

Atleast whoever we do a pick swap with this year we can all bet on going up the ladder in 2020.

Not sure how true but seen West Coast posters saying Masten is a ratbag. Chain smoker
Pretty steep drop off last few years. Not versatile - can't play any other position other than the wing.
Don't think he'd offer much on field - certainly not beyond 2020.
Big no from me.

I don’t see how it’s an endorsement of the culture, if the deal was the same at the Hawks ( or anywhere else) he would jump at it l, there is a reason no ones offering 3 years

I find it exasperating that we will give him 3 years yet throw away Achee

Agree all those media experts throwing stones and not one of them had the lions at the pointy end of the ladder

Got to start somewhere...

Ah Chee no game/culture changer.

Not sure if anyone knows this but the video below (go to 2:20) reveals Eddie Betts was on the Gold Coast during the bye week this year in mid-June and stayed at Tate Kaesler's house, who happens to be our Development Coach. So has a move to us been on the cards much longer everyone thinks? Clearly Betts is close with Kaesler to spend the bye week with him. Am I looking too much into this?
